Chapter 122

Blake, outwardly cautious, was curious about Isabel's skills but didn't ask. Knowing her dislike for prying, he chose silent support. "One day, I'll understand everything about her," he thought.

At that moment, Felicia arrived to pick him up. "What happened here? You've caused trouble again!" she snapped at Liam.

"Mom, it's not what you think. Someone was trying to get to me, and Isabel saved me," Liam replied.

Felicia paused, surprised. "Isabel?"

"Yeah, she's amazing. If it weren't for her, I would have been beaten up for sure," Liam said.

Felicia glanced at Isabel. "Isabel is indeed impressive. During the engagement, I liked her immediately. Though she's a bit cold, she's far better than that so-called true heiress of the Clyde family. It would be wonderful if she could become your wife."

"Mom, hold on a second, I need to talk to Isabel," Liam said, hurrying towards Isabel. Blake's face turned green with envy. Liam actually dared to come, he thought.

"Isabel!"

"Are you doing anything else?" Isabel asked coolly.

Liam felt Blake's intense gaze and swallowed hard. Just a delivery guy, he thought. Why is he looking at me like that? I wonder what Isabel sees in him. If not for the mix-up, he wouldn't even be here.

"Isabel, thank you for saving me today," Liam said.

"For what? They were after me, not you," Isabel responded.

Liam was speechless. He had always assumed those men were after him. After all, as a rich brat, he had made quite a few enemies.

Felicia approached, suddenly warm and friendly, taking Isabel's hand. "Isabel, you're such a good girl. Liam has always regretted marrying Amelia. How about becoming his wife instead!" Felicia suggested.

Blake's expression darkened. He snatched Isabel's hand back and warned, "Mr. Swanson, be careful what you say. Isabel is engaged to me. No one else can touch her!"

Felicia sized up Blake, feeling a sudden chill. "You—you're Blake Yates?"

"The one and only," Blake confirmed.

Suddenly, Felicia lost her bravado. "Mr. Yates, it's all a misunderstanding." She pulled Liam away.

"Mom, what are you doing? Why are you afraid of him?"

"That's Blake!" Felicia warned.

"So what? He's just delivering food, what's so special about that?"

Felicia shot Liam an exasperated look. "He's not just delivering food. Your father told me Blake is now the president of the Yates Corporation, overseeing a massive business empire. Are we in any position to provoke him? You should have heard about his past."

Liam was stunned. "Really?"

"Of course it's real. I've always told you to pay more attention to business matters. You almost got us into trouble. Blake isn't someone to be trifled with."

"Oh, and regarding Isabel, forget about her. You can't compete with Blake, especially since we've already missed our chance."

Liam felt a surge of dissatisfaction. Compared to Blake, he truly fell short. How foolish of me to mock him for riding an e-bike and delivering food, he thought.

Now, Liam's feelings were complicated. He regretted not making a move earlier; they had an engagement, after all. Fate had brought Isabel to him, yet he hadn't cherished her properly.

When Isabel took down those thugs, she looked both beautiful and fierce, completely changing his impression of her. Now, he'd be willing to be her dog if she asked. Thinking back, mocking her was both laughable and childish. Isabel never held it against him; otherwise, he would have been in much worse shape. Thinking for a moment, Liam suddenly turned and ran back toward Isabel.

"Liam, stop right there! What are you doing now? Are you trying to ruin us all!" Felicia shouted after him, but he ignored her.

Isabel and Blake were about to get into the car when Liam rushed up. "Isabel, here's a box of flower cakes. Take it!" He held out a bag to her.

Blake was furious. "Mr. Swanson, did you forget what I said earlier?"

"I'm just giving her some pastries, nothing more," Liam replied.

Seeing this, Isabel reached out to accept the bag. "Thank you."

When Isabel thanked him, Liam's eyes lit up. "This is the first time she's been so nice to me!" Liam thought. Watching Liam fawn over her, Blake felt another wave of jealousy. He pulled Isabel into the car.

"Richard, drive," Blake ordered sharply. Once inside, Blake's mood didn't lighten.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" Isabel asked.

For ten minutes, he remained silent. "I'm not happy," Blake finally admitted. Richard, listening from the front seat, couldn't help but feel that Blake sounded like he was pouting—and even a little cute.

"If you are not happy, say it, and let us be happy," Isabel said softly. Richard nearly burst out laughing.

Blake was speechless. Since when does Isabel have a sense of humor? he thought.

He glanced at the flower cakes in her hand. "What's so special about these cakes? Richard, contact the owner of this bakery tomorrow and tell him to shut down!" Richard was speechless.

Isabel was speechless. What does this have to do with the bakery owner? she thought.

"Blake, are you really upset because of a few cakes from Liam?" Isabel asked.

"So what if they're good?"

"I meant to give these cakes to Alex. He's been down since his breakup and loves these. I grabbed them from Liam since he offered, and after I saved him, one box isn't too much to ask, right?"

Blake's dark mood lifted instantly. "Really? For Alex!"

"Why would I be lying to you?"

Blake immediately hugged her. "I knew it! You wouldn't accept anything from someone like Liam. Don't worry. I'll have Richard buy fresh cakes for Alex every day!"

Richard was speechless. Why drag me into this? he thought.

Isabel chuckled awkwardly. "Forget it. Eating too many sweets can lead to diabetes."

Richard breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness Isabel had come to his rescue. Standing in line at the bakery every day would be torture for him.

"It's getting late, Isabel, let's go eat something." The car stopped in front of a restaurant. Blake led Isabel inside. They ordered her favorite dishes and enjoyed dinner together.

Throughout the meal, Blake kept holding Isabel's hand, and she had grown accustomed to it, feeling quite natural. "The happiest moments of my day are when we eat together, walk together, and see each other, Isabel. I hope we can always be like this." Blake gazed at Isabel with deep affection, unwilling to let go of her hand.
