Chapter 124
Sering Babel said nothing and walked past her. She felt relieved; she definitely hadn't seen her, Amelia thought.
The next day, Isabel slept in, having no morning classes, but needed to be at school by noon for four afternoon classes. After getting ready, she prepared to leave. Amelia saw Isabel go and then sneaked back into Isabel's room, entering the wardrobe. She opened the closet and took many photos with her phone, intending to share them on social media; flaunting wealth was a constant activity for her. A pile of envious comments and a swarm of sycophants made her incredibly pleased.
Isabel left the house, hailing a cab herself. Blake had offered to send Richard, but she declined. "I don't want Richard to go through so much trouble for me," Isabel thought.
She received a call from Seraphina. "Isabel, help me!"
"What happened? Didn't Mr. Flynn get better?" Isabel asked. John had been discharged from the hospital after taking the medicine Babel developed.
"Yeah, Dad's fine, but something's wrong with his wiring. He insists I intern at the company, starting with odd jobs."
"Mr. Flynn has his reasons, Seraphina. Starting from the basics will help you understand the company better. It's for your own good," Isabel said calmly, fearing Seraphina might struggle to take over eventually if she lacked experience.
"Well, I'll bear with it. This day was bound to come sooner or later. But he arranged a fiancé for me! Can you believe it? I've never even heard of this person, let alone met him! He decided my marriage like that!" Seraphina exclaimed.
Isabel remained silent, thinking, Seraphina has a fiancé? She was surprised. It seems these wealthy families like to arrange marriages for their children early, Isabel thought.
"Help me, Isabel," Seraphina cried.
"I probably can't," Isabel said evenly.
"Dad listens to you most. If you talk to him, he might change his mind. You're my only hope, Isabel! I don't want to marry someone I've never seen before! I don't even know what he looks like!"
"Seraphina, I really can't. Don't forget, I also have an arranged fiancé and accepted my fate," Isabel reminded her.
"Hmph! Your fiancé is super loyal and handsome, of course you'd accept it. That's not my case. There's no second Blake in this world!" Seraphina grumbled.
Isabel smiled. "So, you mean you like Blake's type?" You have no idea how shameless he can be, she thought. Mentioning Blake brought back memories of his kisses, making Isabel's skin tingle.
"I was just using him as an example! You can't just stand there and watch!" Seraphina protested.
"Alright, when I have time, I'll ask Mr. Flynn about it," Isabel sighed. She knew John wasn't impulsive and wanted the best for Seraphina. The fiancé he chose must be a good match, but she needed to calm Seraphina down first.
"Okay, thank you. My happiness depends on you," Seraphina said happily before hanging up.
Suddenly, there was a bang from the front. Seraphina's car shook, and she slammed on the brakes. Oh no! An accident, she thought. The other vehicle was a motorcycle.
Seraphina was furious. Already upset about the arranged marriage, now she had a collision to deal with. She got out of the car to confront the rider.
"How do you ride? Are you blind? Two wheels should stay on the sides, don't you know?" Seraphina snapped.
The man glanced at his motorcycle. He had just returned to Ardenfall and found an old bike at home. It had barely been fixed when this happened. What bad luck!
"Hey, miss, there's no rule that says you have to stay on the sides. I was going straight; you should've looked before turning left," the man said, adjusting his helmet.
"You think going straight makes you special? You were clearly speeding. With so many people turning left, shouldn't you slow down?" Seraphina retorted.
"Miss, are you being reasonable?" the man asked, exasperated.
"You're the unreasonable one!" Seraphina snapped, shaking her head. "Are you trying to get compensation on purpose? I've seen too many people like you. Don't think just because you say you're right, I have to pay up."
The man shook his head, wondering if all women in Ardenfall were this unreasonable. Silently, he righted his motorcycle and prepared to leave.
"Hold it, where are you running off to? Are you feeling guilty?" Seraphina blocked him.
"If you think I'm after money, then leaving is my best bet, isn't it?"
"Ha, you're feeling guilty! Afraid I'll call the cops!" Seraphina accused.
The man looked at her speechlessly. "What guilt? Blocking traffic over such a trivial matter is already illegal. Do you even know the law?"
Seraphina was furious that he dared to question her knowledge of the law. She moved her car to confront him, but when she finished, the man had already ridden off. She stomped in anger. "Don't let me see you again, jerk!"
At the University of Ardenfall. They had a class with Emma. Isabel arrived early and felt today's atmosphere was different. Everyone seemed unusually excited.
"What's going on? They all look hyped up," Isabel asked.
"Didn't you hear about the class dinner? Everyone's really excited. The news has been out for a while. Emma will announce it officially when she arrives," Amara explained.
"Oh," Isabel replied indifferently. She never cared much for class gatherings. From middle school through university, she hadn't attended a single one.
Amara remembered something. "Oh right, you're not into parties. Before we became friends, you didn't even know what people said about you behind your back?"
Isabel responded coolly, "What else could it be? Just that I'm too aloof. I just don't like parties. Everyone has their own interests and habits. Besides, even though I don't go, I've always contributed my share financially."
"Yeah, that's true," Amara laughed.
Just then, Yvette stepped onto the podium. She glanced at the students. "Everyone, I'm sure you've heard about the dinner party. The teacher asked me to organize it, so I hope everyone can attend—no exceptions! This is also what Emma wants." Yvette specifically looked towards Isabel as she finished speaking.
