Chapter 30
Isabel chuckled. "Roy, have you forgotten I'm studying design in college? We have the same hobbies. No wonder we're sisters!"
"I see. That's why you know so much. Isabel, you must study hard. I'm a bad example. Don't waste this opportunity."
Isabel nodded. "I will. If you don't understand anything about design, you can ask me. Haven't you ever thought about finding a design job, Roy? It's better paid than delivering food!"
Roy hung her head sadly. "I tried, but I don't have a degree or work experience. Employers dismissed me at first glance."
"It can't always be the case. People don't know your talent yet, Roy."
"How about this! You take pictures of these drafts and submit them with your resume; give it another try! I believe someone will eventually choose you," Isabel suggested tentatively.
Roy shook her head. "It's useless. I already tried."
"Roy, you have to keep trying. What if luck comes your way!" Isabel looked at her encouragingly.
In the end, Roy summoned her courage and decided to follow Isabel's advice.
"Isabel, I wish I could be employed. Even as an apprentice, I'd be willing; it's my favorite profession," Roy said. "Don't worry. Good luck will come!"
Isabel assured her and talked with her about design. Then she returned to her own room. She decided to help Roy. She took out her mobile phone and called Arial.
"Hey, Isabel, is that you? You finally called!" An excited voice answered.
"Arial, I need your help," Isabel said calmly.
"I need your help too!" Arial shouted. "How long has it been since you released a new design? The outside world is speculating if you've run out of talent!"
"I've been busy lately and haven't had time to design," Isabel sighed.
"Busy? Nonsense! You can fool others, but not me! I know you can finish a design draft in a few minutes. Can you spare a few minutes?" Arial scoffed. Dely Studio was entirely reliant on Isabel for development.
"So I'm sending you talent now! There's a newcomer, Roy Calvez, posting her designs online. Take her in."
"Newcomer?" Arial was surprised. "Who is she? What makes you call me for her sake?"
"She's my sister," Isabel said. "Don't let her know I asked you to do this."
"Got it! Leave it to me. Anyway, this studio is yours; you have the final say. By the way, when will your design be… Hello? Hello?" Before she finished, Isabel hung up.
Arial pouted. 'If I were Isabel, I'd be drawing designs every day and become the richest person in the world!' she thought, daydreaming. But Isabel didn't have that ambition.
Countless people looked forward to Isabel's designs. That meant countless money; Arial sighed silently.
Early the next morning, Isabel was still sleeping when Roy awakened her.
"Isabel, I have something important to tell you! Get up!" Roy said excitedly.
"Roy, what is it?" Isabel opened her eyes.
"Well, I listened to you last night and posted the designs online. This morning someone contacted me and asked me to go for an interview!"
"And it was Dely Studio! That's one of the top design companies in the world! I feel like I'm dreaming! Could this really be a dream?" Roy was so excited she babbled, pinching herself and patting her head to ensure it wasn't a dream. "Roy, you're not dreaming. Congratulations! Your wish has come true!" Isabel smiled.
"I can't believe it! I got noticed by Dely Studio! Isabel, why don't you come with me for the interview today? It's my first time going to such a big company; I'm scared!"
"No problem," Isabel agreed immediately. She still owed Arial a design. By going with Roy, she could grant Arial's request.
After dressing Roy and preparing her resume, Isabel and Roy arrived at Dely Studio. When Roy saw the brand name, her heart swelled with passion.
"Isabel, I delivered food to Dely before. It's very high-end inside. Do you know how it looks?"
"Yes, I do."
"You know?" Roy was surprised.
It was Isabel's studio, but Roy didn't know that. So Isabel fabricated an explanation.
"Roy, I studied design. I've always paid attention to Dely. It's not strange if I know a little more about it."
"I see," Roy nodded. "My favorite designer is Lily. She's Dely's top designer. Her designs are always a hit; the styles are innovative."
Isabel remained silent, slightly blushing at the praise. Roy was her sister, which gave her a greater sense of accomplishment. If she responded, her pride might betray her identity. So she simply said, "Let's go in!"
Roy nodded and followed. Someone at the front desk greeted them. They explained their purpose and waited. Soon, a beautiful young woman in a white business suit approached.
"I'm Laura Reed, a designer from Dely Studio. Which one of you is Roy Calvez?"
Roy replied, and Laura sized her up, saying, "Please come with me." Roy gestured for Isabel to wait, and Isabel nodded.
After Roy left, Isabel snuck into the director's office. Several staff members stopped her. "Stop! Who are you? How did you get up here? This is the director's office!"
Just then, Arial emerged. "She is my guest. You can go back to what you were doing."
"Yes, Miss Winters." The staff glanced curiously at Isabel as she entered Arial's office.
"Isabel, you've finally come. Do you still remember the studio is yours?" Arial exclaimed once the door closed.
"Yes," Isabel said nonchalantly.
Arial, holding a cup, asked, "What would you like to drink?"
"Whatever."
Arial made her a cup of coffee. When she returned, she found Isabel sketching at the desk.
"Your coffee is ready!" Arial placed it beside her.
Isabel lifted her head and exclaimed, "The sketch is done!"
Arial's eyes widened in shock. Isabel had finished the draft in the time it took to make a cup of coffee. Even the best designers at Dely Studio needed at least a month to create a design. Isabel was extraordinary; a genius who could accomplish her designs in minutes. All her designs were a hit. Millions waited eagerly for her creations. In the design world, Lily was compared to a god, yet few had seen her.
Arial examined the draft—a unique necklace, its shape and creativity subverting existing designs. A line of small words explained the creative idea.
