Chapter 39

Martin knew it couldn't be that simple, but this was thirty million dollars. No matter the condition, he'd agree without hesitation.

"I want your employee, Jack Galvez, to be the designer and developer for this game. No one else is allowed to interfere or object."

Martin paused, vaguely recalling Jack. "Alright, alright, no problem! I also think Jack is a talented person. I'll definitely give him a lot of responsibility!" He smiled eagerly.

"I haven't finished yet. As for your nephew, I don't think it's necessary to keep him in the company."

Martin was speechless. Why his nephew?

"What, Mr. Fowler! You don't agree?"

"No... no, we'll do as you say." Just a nephew—how could he compare to a thirty-million-dollar investment? He'd fire him immediately after the meeting.

Blake left. Once paralyzed for years, retaining some power he'd hidden, he now had to use it for Isabel. Thirty million—it was worth it if it could help her.

Just as Blake exited, the assistant rushed in. "Mr. Fowler, Miss Jovian from Oceania Group is here!"

"Oceania Group? Miss Jovian!"

"What are we waiting for! Please, show her in!" Martin's urgency was palpable. First, Mr. Yates, and now another big shot—Miss Jovian from Oceania?

Chris walked in briskly, hands tucked into her coat pockets. Martin quickly stood to greet her. Their company was small, nowhere near worthy of a visit from someone of Chris's stature.

"Mr. Fowler, I'm here to seek investment. I plan to invest thirty million in your company."

Martin was speechless. What was going on? Had Lady Luck finally paid him a visit? First Mr. Yates from the Yates family, and now Miss Jovian from Oceania Group. This was bizarre.

"Miss Jovian, you must be joking," Martin couldn't believe it.

"Do I look like the kind of person who jokes?"

"Oh, I'm sorry. I was overthinking it. It's an honor for Skycross to have your attention!"

"It's only thirty million. Whenever you're ready with the contract, just let me know. But I have a condition—you have to agree to it." Her tone was commanding, not negotiating.

"Please, go ahead, Miss Jovian."

"I want Jack to be the designer and manager for this game. Fire your nephew!"

What had happened to his nephew? He'd upset two big names, and both wanted him gone.

"Don't worry, Miss Jovian. I'll do it right away!" Martin was practically bursting with excitement. "If Jack leaves, I'll buy Skycross," Chris added.

This statement terrified Martin. It seemed Jack was a real treasure—he had to be treated well. As for his nephew, he was a disaster. Time to show him the door.

Meanwhile, downstairs, colleagues advised Jack to endure Chad's persistent insults. Finally, Jack snapped, punching Chad in the face.

"You dare hit me? You've got some nerve! Do you still want your job?" Chad wiped his bleeding nose.

"Even if I get fired today, I'm going to say my piece! You, Chad, don't know the first thing about programming, games, or game operations! With someone like you managing the company, it's only a matter of time before it shuts down."

"How dare you!" Chad lunged, and they grappled. The surrounding people dared not intervene. Nearby desks were in disarray. "Mr. Fowler is here!" someone shouted.

Martin saw the fight and understood. It seemed someone was protecting Jack, and likely multiple parties were involved. Otherwise, why would both Blake and Chris seek him out?

"Why are you just standing there? Pull them apart!" Martin ordered his employees. They separated the two.

Chad, seeing his uncle, immediately complained. "Mr. Fowler, you have to fire him! He laid hands on me!"

Martin shot him a cold glare before walking toward Jack. Chad smiled smugly, thinking Jack would be fired. Who in the company didn't fawn over him? Only Jack and a few friends treated him with disdain.

When Martin approached, Jack said casually, "I'm done here. I don't need to stay." He was about to leave.

"Jack, you can't leave! The company can't do without you!" Martin quickly responded.

Everyone was startled. Martin always protected Chad, but now something was different.

Jack looked at Martin, completely baffled. "Uncle, what are you saying? I must've misheard you?" Chad was in disbelief.

Martin slapped him. "You dare disrespect Jack and hit him! Apologize to him right now!"

Chad and Jack were speechless. What was wrong with Mr. Fowler?

"No... Mr. Fowler, are you out of your mind? Shouldn't it be him apologizing!"

Before Chad finished, Martin slapped him again. "It's your fault! Don't make excuses. Apologize right now!" His face was flushed with anger.

Jack was the golden goose; Martin wasn't stupid enough to offend him. Seeing his uncle's anger, Chad reluctantly walked over. "I'm sorry."

Martin kicked him to his knees. "Kneel down and apologize. Don't you dare fake it." Chad muttered, "Sorry, Jack. It was my fault."

"From now on, Chad, you're done at Skycross! People like you are a rotten apple, bound to spoil everything. Get out. Now!"

Chad couldn't believe it. Why was his uncle doing this? Had he lost his mind?

"No need. I've already decided to leave. From now on, I want nothing to do with this place," Jack said calmly. He'd had enough. His overtime pay had been pocketed by Chad, and his game designs stolen. Only his family obligations and love for his career kept him this long. Now, with Alex's high salary and Roy working at Dely Studio, the family's burden was lighter.

When Martin heard this, he panicked! If Jack left, what would happen with Blake and Miss Jovian? Miss Jovian had said that if Jack left, she'd buy the company! He wouldn't let that happen.
