Chapter 76

Samorl had once again underestimated his mother's thinking. He declared, "Isabel, with your help, I will restore the company to its former glory and impress your grandmother. She won’t dare look down on us again!"

"Okay, Dad," Isabel advised. "David is almost here. Remember, you must be in charge! Don't let yourself seem weak."

Before Helen could arrive to report, David burst through the door. In his thirties, he brimmed with youthful confidence. He had been Guinevere's boyfriend and, because of her, had become a manager in the Finance Department.

"On what grounds are you firing me?" David shouted, angrily pointing at Samuel as if the company belonged to him.

"Did you not think to knock before entering? Now leave!" Samuel commanded firmly.

"Samuel, I demand to know why you dismissed me without cause!"

"Did you knock? Do you understand simple instructions?" Isabel interjected.

A fuming David felt powerless, while Samuel remained calm and radiated authority. With no options left, David turned away and knocked again. After Samuel invited him in, David entered.

"Samuel, I'm really unhappy about your groundless decision to fire me today! Why are you treating me this way?" David demanded.

Samuel tossed a sheet of paper at him. "Take a look at your attendance record over the past year. With your unexcused absence today, company policy dictates your dismissal."

Holding the attendance sheet, David sneered. "Mr. Galvez, you're nitpicking. Is it just because I missed today? You're making this hard for me. You want to use me as a scapegoat, huh? This is pretty low, especially considering I'm William's guy."

"Let's put the attendance records aside for now and look at this," Samuel replied, throwing another document at him. "The company's performance has dropped significantly over the past two years. How do you explain your work?"

David scoffed. "Mr. Galvez, you think I'm to blame for this? The sales department is responsible, not me! I just balance the accounts; these issues aren't my job."

"If you say it's not your problem, then you can leave! Everyone here shares responsibility for the company's performance. You, however, act like it doesn't concern you. With that attitude, why should you stay?" Isabel fiercely admonished him.

David glared at her. "And who do you think you are? You keep butting in without any reason."

Samuel said, "This is my daughter, ready to take your place in the Finance Department."

"Oh, so Mr. Galvez wants to promote his daughter and is using this to make my life hard! That's a convenient excuse for you, but how will it look to others! If you don't give me a good explanation today, I won't back down!"

Isabel smirked. "Then look at this! During your time as finance manager, several accounts have been left unresolved and ignored. When Samuel and I reviewed this year's reports, we found your accounts are a total mess. It's obvious; can you really not see it? With such incompetence, you have no right to remain finance manager. If you don't leave, who will?"

David's face turned bright red. "This...this is my subordinates' fault! I didn't know!"

"As a leader, can you really just ignore your responsibilities? Leave right now!" Isabel shouted.

"I won't leave today! You're just trying to make things hard for me! I won't give in!"

"Samuel, please call security to remove him," Isabel said.

Samuel called the Security Department, but no one answered. "No one's answering," Samuel said, looking puzzled at Isabel.

"Ha! Did you really think that just because you're the general manager now, you can do whatever you want? The head of security answers only to me!" David Haugland triumphed.

Isabel curled her lips. "Since the head of security is useless, I'll take care of this myself." With that, she grabbed David's arm and pulled him toward the exit.

"Let go of me! What are you doing?" David, a grown man, was being dragged across the floor by Isabel. It was humiliating. Isabel continued to pull him all the way outside where everyone in the company could see.

People gasped, amazed by her strength as she effortlessly dragged the heavy man. Her demeanor was impressive. Isabel promptly threw David into the street. "Get lost!"

Struggling to his feet, David could hardly believe a young girl had thrown him out. "Just wait!" David vowed ominously as he swaggered away.

Isabel headed for the Security Department. She found several security guards engrossed in video games. When she arrived, they pretended she was invisible, each continuing to play.

"Who is the head of the Security Department?" Isabel asked.

At that moment, Niles glanced up. Seeing she was just a girl, he didn't pay her much mind. "That's me. What do you want?"

"I'm Isabel, the new finance manager and Samuel's assistant. Is this how you work?"

Niles shrugged and remained engrossed in his game. "Keep moving! They're low on health!"

Isabel moved over and took his phone. "What are you doing?" Niles shouted, jumping from the table.

"Answer the phone! It's working hours. Samuel just called for you. Why didn't you answer?"

Niles glared at her defiantly. "Didn't hear it. What are you going to do about it?"

"Leave," Isabel replied calmly.

"Leave? Why should we? We haven't done anything wrong! And who do you think you are?!"

"I'm Samuel's assistant. What I say carries his authority, and I'm here to fire those who don't do their job."

Laughter erupted from the office, dismissing her words. Isabel frowned. "Pack your things and leave immediately. I won't say it again."

"Little girl, you clearly lack experience. We're not leaving, and you have no power over us! Now give back my phone! Otherwise, you'll regret this!"

Isabel smashed his phone onto the floor. Niles was furious. "What the hell? You broke my phone?"

"I aim to not only break your phone but also fire you," Isabel said, her voice strong and commanding.

"You want to fight?" Niles shouted, rolling up his sleeves, ready to confront her.
