Chapter 78
“Since Grandma has put the company in Samuel’s hands, I definitely have the right to help my dad manage things. If we don’t address these issues and allow the company’s assets to be stolen, what’s the point of managing it? We might as well just give it away! If you don’t agree, talk to Grandma,” Isabel stated firmly.
Guinevere was speechless.
William glared at Guinevere and David in frustration. They had come to Samuel to complain, but it seemed hopeless. “Well… Samuel, this is all my fault. Let’s just forget this. I was tricked, and we’ll leave now,” William said quickly, forcing a smile.
But Isabel interrupted, “William, it might be too late. The police will be here soon. Stealing company property is a serious crime!”
The sound of sirens filled the air, announcing the arrival of police officers to detain David.
“Guinevere, help me!” David cried desperately.
“Isabel, you’re going too far! David is my boyfriend—how could you treat him like this?” Guinevere shouted angrily.
“Oh? He’s your boyfriend? Then why were you so infatuated with Blake earlier? Are you trying to have it both ways?” Isabel retorted.
Guinevere fumed. David was merely a backup; if things didn’t work out with Blake, she wanted to keep her options open.
Samuel spoke firmly, “Officer, take him away!”
“Guinevere! Guinevere!” David yelled repeatedly as Guinevere stood helpless, watching him be taken away. Grinding her teeth, she seethed, “Just wait, Isabel!” Then she stormed off.
William was equally upset. “Samuel, your actions are completely ruthless! We are family, yet you show no care. Going after David is like slapping me in the face!”
Isabel replied, “William, if you want to talk about ruthlessness, remember when you and Hugh tried to kick us out! That’s worse! Our family suffered outside for all these years, and do you feel even a little guilty?”
William scoffed. “What does that have to do with me? Samuel left for Hannah. What’s the point of bringing it up now that you’re back?” He stormed out.
The office fell silent. Samuel sighed. “Well, it looks like we’ve really upset William and Guinevere.”
“Dad, don’t worry. Do you really think William would treat us kindly if we didn’t act like this? They would only exploit our weaknesses to make our lives harder.”
“That’s true. In this family, the original bonds have long been frayed.”
Thinking back to their childhood, when William and Hugh had affectionately called out to him, Samuel wondered when their brotherly bond had soured into such hatred. Learning from the past, he made sure to teach his own children the importance of loving and supporting each other. Thankfully, they turned out to be great kids who never schemed out of jealousy.
“Tony, Isabel is absolutely outrageous! Now that they’ve taken control, they treat us like this—it’s disgusting! I can’t take this insult!” Guinevere raged to Tony.
Tony’s expression hardened. “She shouldn’t think she can ignore us just because she has Blake on her side!”
“Even David has been arrested, what are we going to do? He is relying on us for help!”
“To rescue David, you might need to ask Grandma for help; maybe she can talk to the police.”
“But Isabel… I just can’t stand this insult! It’s unbearable!”
Tony smirked. “I have my own plans to deal with her, just wait and see!”
After a long day at work, Isabel returned home late. “Isabel, was everything at work okay today?” Hannah asked.
“Yes, it went well. I think the company will soon be back on track.”
“That’s great to hear. I’ve noticed your dad’s mood has really improved.”
Since Samuel took over, Hannah felt her husband had come back to life, energized by his work. She was happy watching him thrive. If it weren’t for loving her and wanting to be with her, Samuel, the heir of the Galvez family, wouldn’t have ended up in this situation. Hannah had carried that guilt for many years.
Isabel said, “Mom, you should rest; don’t push yourself too hard!”
“Alright.” Hannah felt very happy; she didn’t have to worry about money anymore. Their children were doing well, and the family enjoyed a good quality of life.
Once in her room, Isabel received a call. “Isabel, I’ve been looking overseas for a year, but I still can’t find Wolf.”
Isabel replied calmly, “I know; he’s probably scared now. It might be hard to find him.”
“I won’t give up. That traitor will face my wrath sooner or later!”
“Let’s put that aside for now. When was the last time you visited home? You should go back and check on your parents.”
The caller hesitated. “Isabel, why are you suddenly bringing this up?” He had always seen her as emotionless, someone who didn’t talk much about family ties.
“Your family has been worried about you being away for so long. You should visit.” Having been pushed aside in the village by the Clydes, she felt neglected for a long time. She never understood what family really meant, treating it like a cold, distant idea. But things felt different now that she was with her family, where she was treated kindly. She cherished the chance to be near them.
“What about Wolf?”
“There’s no need to chase him. I believe he’ll eventually show up. After all, he can’t hide forever. If you stop pressuring him, he might let his guard down and become more reckless, revealing himself.”
“Alright, I’ll take your advice and prepare to visit my mom.”
“And one more thing—find Fox’s family!”
There was a brief silence before he replied, “Got it.”
After hanging up, Isabel looked up at the dark, empty sky, her heart heavy with many thoughts and regrets. She recalled the year when snow covered the ground, as she led her team on a mission. What she didn’t know was that the subordinate she had once trusted the most, Wolf, betrayed them, giving away their location and leading to a devastating ambush that took many lives, nearly wiping out her entire team. Fox, trying to help them escape, sacrificed himself, and her survival came at the cost of his life—a debt she would always remember.
