Chapter 108
After listening to Bianca cry her heart out, Abigail finally said in a calm, steady voice, โI went to the capital today. Iโve seen the Pioneer Fortress and the ancient ruins. The ones your three kids used to talk about. Thereโs a parade this afternoon, and Iโm going to see that too.โ
At those words, Biancaโs sobs caught in her throat.
Abigailโs tone turned colder than before as she added, โI honestly donโt know how you still have the nerve to ask me for help?โ
โIโve been reflecting, Abby. I really have,โ Bianca pleaded, her voice raw and shaking. โPlease, give us a chance. At least give Stevie a chance. He canโt go to jailโฆโ
But all her begging and crying didnโt stir the slightest sympathy in Abigail.
Abigail said firmly, โHe ran someone over. Facing the law is the least he should do. Why is it that your family always thinks you all can wriggle out of every consequence? Oh, one more thing. I have a video of the crash. So, stop calling me, or Iโll hand it straight to the police.โ
After saying all that without a hint of emotion, Abigail ended the call right away.
When she stepped out of her room and saw Warren and the others watching her, she met their eyes and calmly said, โLetโs head out after breakfast. I heard if weโre late, we might miss it.โ
Sebastian stood up, and there was a flicker of cold intensity in his gaze.
Later that day at lunch, while sitting with Sebastian and the others, Abigail got a call from Timothy.
Timothy sighed, โYour mom showed up at the office in tears. She has made such a scene that the whole department is talking about it. When are you coming back to Cobridge?โ
Timothy knew Abigail was with Sebastian, so he was careful not to push too hard. But Bianca had been creating chaos at the company, pressuring them to demand Abigail return home. He was out of options.
Abigailโs expression darkened, her delicate brows furrowing. She thought, โI canโt believe she actually went to the company. She couldnโt force me to come home, so now sheโs bringing the drama to my workplace.โ
After a moment of silence, she replied, โIโll speak with Mr. Robinson and call you back.โ
Timothy, afraid Sebastian might blame them for this mess, softened his tone to say, โLook, weโre not saying you have to come back. Justโฆ deal with your mom, alright? Itโs not a great sight with her crying at the office entrance all day.โ
โSheโs not leaving unless I go back,โ Abigail said bluntly before ending the call. She knew perfectly well that threats didnโt work on Bianca.
Abigail came out of the restroom and returned to the dining area. She looked at Sebastian and said, โIf thereโs no more work here, Iโll need to head back.โ
Warren glanced at Sebastian, who was already looking pretty annoyed, and said, โGoing back isnโt going to fix your mom causing trouble at the company. What you really need to deal with is the Gibson familyโs mess. If you canโt do it, weโll take care of it ourselves.โ
Abigail calmly said, โI have video footage of the crash. If I send it to the police, that will be the end of it for the Gibson family.โ
Sebastian looked at her and said in a laid-back tone, "Mr. Wyatt Gibson might care about you, but he wonโt be thrilled to see his son thrown in prison for three years. Gabrielโs two sons arenโt exactly impressive either. With a company as big as the Gibson familyโs, theyโre just not up to the task."
At the mention of Wyatt, Abigail fell quiet. She hadnโt handed over the video footage yet, partly because she had considered this. After all, Gabriel was Wyattโs only son. She figured that if she really had him locked up for three years, her bond with Wyatt would pretty much be over.
โThe victimโs family wonโt settle. They want to sue the Gibson family,โ Abigail said. โSo, Mrs. Gibson asked me to beg you for help, but I really donโt want to trouble you with it.โ
Sebastian crossed his legs, a steely edge creeping into his otherwise relaxed expression. โWhat did I say last night?โ
James grinned. โIf theyโre bullying Abby, we gotta go set them straight, right?โ
Warren added in a breezy tone, โSo, time to pack up for Cobridge?โ
Sebastian gave a quiet nod. โYeah, once weโre back, Iโll leave it to you, Jim. If it can be settled with a lawyer, go for it. As for the video, keep it. Itโll come in handy eventually.โ
On the way back, once James and Warren had gone to rest, Abigail found Sebastian in the lounge, reviewing some documents. She walked over and said, โThanks for everything.โ
Sebastian took off his glasses and rested his chin on the back of his hand as he looked at her.
He said, โIโm not asking you to cut Mr. Wyatt Gibson off completely, okay? But if you keep clinging to what he has done for you and let the Gibson family drain you dry, thatโs not going to work either. You need to find a way to put a stop to it. Sooner rather than later.โ
โAlright.โ Abigail knew he was right. He could call in his friends to help her once, but not forever.
โOne more thing,โ Sebastian added. โSince Jim is stepping in, the Gibson family has to pay a price. Thatโs only fair.โ With that, he shut his laptop and stood up.
After he left the room, Abigail stayed seated, tilting her head back and staring blankly at the ceiling.
When they reached Cobridge, Abigail accompanied James to the hospital to visit the person Gabriel had hit.
