Chapter 108

After listening to Bianca cry her heart out, Abigail finally said in a calm, steady voice, โ€œI went to the capital today. Iโ€™ve seen the Pioneer Fortress and the ancient ruins. The ones your three kids used to talk about. Thereโ€™s a parade this afternoon, and Iโ€™m going to see that too.โ€

At those words, Biancaโ€™s sobs caught in her throat.

Abigailโ€™s tone turned colder than before as she added, โ€œI honestly donโ€™t know how you still have the nerve to ask me for help?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve been reflecting, Abby. I really have,โ€ Bianca pleaded, her voice raw and shaking. โ€œPlease, give us a chance. At least give Stevie a chance. He canโ€™t go to jailโ€ฆโ€

But all her begging and crying didnโ€™t stir the slightest sympathy in Abigail.

Abigail said firmly, โ€œHe ran someone over. Facing the law is the least he should do. Why is it that your family always thinks you all can wriggle out of every consequence? Oh, one more thing. I have a video of the crash. So, stop calling me, or Iโ€™ll hand it straight to the police.โ€

After saying all that without a hint of emotion, Abigail ended the call right away.

When she stepped out of her room and saw Warren and the others watching her, she met their eyes and calmly said, โ€œLetโ€™s head out after breakfast. I heard if weโ€™re late, we might miss it.โ€

Sebastian stood up, and there was a flicker of cold intensity in his gaze.

Later that day at lunch, while sitting with Sebastian and the others, Abigail got a call from Timothy.

Timothy sighed, โ€œYour mom showed up at the office in tears. She has made such a scene that the whole department is talking about it. When are you coming back to Cobridge?โ€

Timothy knew Abigail was with Sebastian, so he was careful not to push too hard. But Bianca had been creating chaos at the company, pressuring them to demand Abigail return home. He was out of options.

Abigailโ€™s expression darkened, her delicate brows furrowing. She thought, โ€˜I canโ€™t believe she actually went to the company. She couldnโ€™t force me to come home, so now sheโ€™s bringing the drama to my workplace.โ€™

After a moment of silence, she replied, โ€œIโ€™ll speak with Mr. Robinson and call you back.โ€

Timothy, afraid Sebastian might blame them for this mess, softened his tone to say, โ€œLook, weโ€™re not saying you have to come back. Justโ€ฆ deal with your mom, alright? Itโ€™s not a great sight with her crying at the office entrance all day.โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s not leaving unless I go back,โ€ Abigail said bluntly before ending the call. She knew perfectly well that threats didnโ€™t work on Bianca.

Abigail came out of the restroom and returned to the dining area. She looked at Sebastian and said, โ€œIf thereโ€™s no more work here, Iโ€™ll need to head back.โ€

Warren glanced at Sebastian, who was already looking pretty annoyed, and said, โ€œGoing back isnโ€™t going to fix your mom causing trouble at the company. What you really need to deal with is the Gibson familyโ€™s mess. If you canโ€™t do it, weโ€™ll take care of it ourselves.โ€

Abigail calmly said, โ€œI have video footage of the crash. If I send it to the police, that will be the end of it for the Gibson family.โ€

Sebastian looked at her and said in a laid-back tone, "Mr. Wyatt Gibson might care about you, but he wonโ€™t be thrilled to see his son thrown in prison for three years. Gabrielโ€™s two sons arenโ€™t exactly impressive either. With a company as big as the Gibson familyโ€™s, theyโ€™re just not up to the task."

At the mention of Wyatt, Abigail fell quiet. She hadnโ€™t handed over the video footage yet, partly because she had considered this. After all, Gabriel was Wyattโ€™s only son. She figured that if she really had him locked up for three years, her bond with Wyatt would pretty much be over.

โ€œThe victimโ€™s family wonโ€™t settle. They want to sue the Gibson family,โ€ Abigail said. โ€œSo, Mrs. Gibson asked me to beg you for help, but I really donโ€™t want to trouble you with it.โ€

Sebastian crossed his legs, a steely edge creeping into his otherwise relaxed expression. โ€œWhat did I say last night?โ€

James grinned. โ€œIf theyโ€™re bullying Abby, we gotta go set them straight, right?โ€

Warren added in a breezy tone, โ€œSo, time to pack up for Cobridge?โ€

Sebastian gave a quiet nod. โ€œYeah, once weโ€™re back, Iโ€™ll leave it to you, Jim. If it can be settled with a lawyer, go for it. As for the video, keep it. Itโ€™ll come in handy eventually.โ€

On the way back, once James and Warren had gone to rest, Abigail found Sebastian in the lounge, reviewing some documents. She walked over and said, โ€œThanks for everything.โ€

Sebastian took off his glasses and rested his chin on the back of his hand as he looked at her.

He said, โ€œIโ€™m not asking you to cut Mr. Wyatt Gibson off completely, okay? But if you keep clinging to what he has done for you and let the Gibson family drain you dry, thatโ€™s not going to work either. You need to find a way to put a stop to it. Sooner rather than later.โ€

โ€œAlright.โ€ Abigail knew he was right. He could call in his friends to help her once, but not forever.

โ€œOne more thing,โ€ Sebastian added. โ€œSince Jim is stepping in, the Gibson family has to pay a price. Thatโ€™s only fair.โ€ With that, he shut his laptop and stood up.

After he left the room, Abigail stayed seated, tilting her head back and staring blankly at the ceiling.

When they reached Cobridge, Abigail accompanied James to the hospital to visit the person Gabriel had hit.
