Chapter 127
Stephen took off fast. Abigail didnโt even get a chance to return the car keys. She saw Christian was still there and tossed the keys to him.
โWho asked for your pity?โ Christian retorted, yet he kept the car keys in his grip.
โIf you donโt want my โpity,โ then refuse it. Stop acting all high and mighty while taking what Iโm offering.โ Abigail laughed coldly, raised her chin, and walked away.
Christian stepped forward and grabbed her wrist. โDonโt think I donโt know whatโs going on. Stevieโs targeting Dari like this because youโre pulling strings behind the scenes. You say Iโm acting high and mighty? How are you any better?โ
โLet go of me!โ Abigailโs voice was full of disgust.
โIโm not letting goโโ
Before Christian could finish his sentence, Abigailโs palm connected with his face. He stood there stunned for a moment, then raised his hand to hit her back.
โChris, what the hell are you doing?โ Wyattโs voice cut through the tension just in time.
Abigail took the chance to grab Christianโs hand and shove him away hard. He stumbled back two steps, his voice full of rage. โShe hit me! Didnโt you see that, Grandpa?โ
Wyatt looked completely unbothered. โHow hard can a girl hit? Youโre a grown man. Canโt you handle that much?โ
Abigail couldnโt help but smirk. โNo wonder the Gibson family loves their double standards so much,โ she thought. โWhen they work in your favor, it actually feels pretty good.โ
โFine.โ Christian wasnโt like Stephen. He didnโt enjoy being aggressive and pushy. โShe slapped me today, but Iโll get her back eventually,โ he thought. He grabbed his car keys and headed straight to the dining room.
Wyatt came downstairs and walked over to Abigailโs side. โHow did I do?โ he asked quietly.
โGreat. Thanks, Grandpa. I need to get to work now. Make sure you eat breakfast,โ Abigail said with a smile on her face.
โYou know, when Stevie offered you that car, you shouldโve taken it. Now look what happened. Daniella gets to keep it for nothing.โ Wyatt figured Abigail could let anything slide, but never pass up money or valuable things.
โI donโt need it. Iโm heading out now,โ Abigail said. She needed to find a chance to tell Wyatt that she was more than just a Halden Group employee. Otherwise, heโd keep worrying that she was getting the short end of the stick.
When Abigail arrived at Halden Group, she immediately spotted the luxury car parked right in front of the building.
James was leaning against it, completely ignoring all the office workers walking past. As soon as he saw Abigail, he waved his hand in the air. โAbby, over here!โ
Abigail walked quickly toward him. โI see you.โ
โWith a guy that big standing right by the main entrance, how could I miss him?โ she thought.
James opened the car door for her. โGet in, Abby. Iโm driving you over to Seb so you can get a good scolding.โ
People walking by couldnโt help but laugh when they heard him.
Abigail looked completely exasperated. โCould you maybe wish me well for once? How do you know Iโm going to get criticized?โ As she spoke, she was already getting into the car.
James slid into the driverโs seat and said, โYesterday, Seb was expecting you to show up to; instead, some complete glutton showed up, and he was pretty ticked off.โ
โThatโs not my fault though. Thatโs on whoever went instead,โ Abigail said innocently.
โYeah, but when Seb gets mad, he likes to take it out on everyone around him,โ James said, sounding genuinely worried for her.
โAll big bosses have that problem,โ Abigail thought.
When they reached the Victoria Grand Hotel, Abigail instinctively felt nervous. โIs he really that angry?โ
โYeah, so itโs going to be on you to smooth things over with him,โ James said with a completely serious expression.
Abigail took a deep breath and followed him into the elevator. When they reached the floor where Sebastianโs suite was, she hid behind James. โYou go in first.โ
โIโm scared too. You go first,โ James said, barely holding back a grin as he stepped aside to let her pass.
Abigail gave him a look and sighed, giving up the fight. She walked into the living area, carefully making her way toward the table.
When she rounded the corner, she saw Sebastian sitting on the couch in his casual clothes, with a laptop open on the table in front of him.
With his gold-rimmed glasses, Sebastian had that deceptively refined look that could be dangerous.
Abigail walked over and said quietly, โMr. Robinson, I brought the meeting summary.โ
Sebastian looked up, his gaze cold and sharp. โWhy did you decide to switch people at the last minute yesterday? And why replace yourself with someone completely useless?โ
Abigail couldnโt exactly say it was because the guy had disgusted her and sheโd acted on impulse. โWe should give our colleagues opportunities, right?โ she said awkwardly.
James covered his mouth but still let out a laugh.
โOpportunities arenโt for people who canโt handle the job. You know that perfectly well. If you wonโt tell me, Iโll just ask Timothy myself.โ Sebastianโs tone was flat and indifferent.
