Chapter 136
โStevie, Iโm not selfish,โ Daniella finally cracked under his harsh words and started crying.
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she looked up at Stephen, choking out her words. โI couldnโt find the Hearth Table, so I just searched for a place on the delivery app that had chicken soup and went to buy it.
โI didnโt mean toโฆ I just wanted Mom to love me more.โ
Stephen was about to say more, but Bianca grabbed his arm. โLet it go. Maybe she really didnโt mean it.โ
โMom, I didnโt do it on purpose. I lied because Abigail came back and I felt insecure,โ Daniella cried as she looked at Bianca, making herself look as pitiful as possible.
For the first time, Stephen saw through her act of playing the victim, and it made his blood boil.
Furious, he pointed at Daniella and threatened, โTry lying to me one more time! You said you couldnโt find the Hearth Table on delivery apps, but I found it just fine. Theyโre a five-star restaurant thatโs been on there for years. How is it that only you canโt find them?โ
โAlright, do you really need to be so aggressive?โ Christian interjected.
โFine, I wonโt be aggressive. Tomorrow, sheโs coming with me to the hospital, and weโre bringing Ralph too. Sheโs getting another evaluation, because I want to see if she really has depression!โ
Stephen didnโt trust a single word that came out of Daniellaโs mouth anymore. Every sentence felt like a lie wrapped in fake emotions.
โStevie,โ Daniella looked at him in disbelief. โEven if you hate me, you donโt have to doubt me like this, do you?โ
โJust tell me if you dare to go or not! I wonโt say anything else, but if you had any conscience at all, you wouldnโt be too lazy to order Mom a simple bowl of chicken soup.โ
Stephen had yelled at Bianca that day, but heโd been furious then. Now that heโd cooled down, he still felt bad for Bianca. After all, Bianca spoiled Daniella the most in this family.
Daniella apologized, โMom, Iโm sorry. I wonโt do this again.โ
โSomeone who lies as easily as breathingโI donโt believe youโll change. Unless you come to the hospital with me tomorrow.โ Stephen was determined to investigate everything about Daniella now.
Stephen continued, โIโm not trying to settle scores with you. Just ask yourself. Have we been unfair to you? Even knowing you werenโt our biological daughter, Chris and I spoiled you rotten.
โYou spend almost three million dollars every month while Chris and I get by on 700 thousand at most. We gave you all the spending money, bought you clothes and bags, gave you whatever you wanted. And what did you do in return?โ
Stephen waited for Daniellaโs answer. Abigail grabbed some water and snacks, then turned to head upstairs. Sheโd heard the argument but figured it had nothing to do with her.
Her complete indifference made Bianca speak up. โAbby, I went to the Hearth Table today. The owner still remembers you even though you havenโt been there in three years.โ
Abigail paused, confused. โWas Judy covering for me?โ she thought.
โSo what?โ She stopped on the stairs and asked coldly, โWhatโs your point?โ
Bianca felt like sheโd been slapped. โWhat was my point? Did I expect Abigail to suddenly remember the good times we used to have?โ she thought.
Bianca suddenly realized she didnโt have the right to bring up the past anymore. Sheโd given all the love that should have gone to Abigail to Daniella instead, and Daniella hadnโt even been genuinely grateful for it.
โAm I trying to put all my expectations for a daughter on Abigail because Daniella let me down?โ Bianca thought.
โActually, Mom wanted to say that she wasnโt completely ungrateful for how good you used to be to her,โ Stephen said.
A cold smile tugged at the corner of Abigailโs lips. โDo I need her gratitude? Just because she remembers how I treated her before, am I supposed to put on some touching mother-daughter reunion show?โ
โWatch your mouth!โ Christian immediately snapped.
โI wonโt watch anything. So what? Iโm not part of your Gibson family anyway. Iโm just Grandpaโs granddaughter. Whatโs that got to do with you people? Donโt try to lecture me!โ Abigail lifted her chin defiantly.
Christian stepped forward, ready to slap her across the face.
Wyattโs voice cut through from the second-floor hallway where heโd been watching. โChris, if you lay one finger on her, youโll lose every position you have in the Gibson family tomorrow, and your shares will go to her as compensation.โ
Christian looked up at Wyatt. โGrandpa, youโre being way too biased. Sheโs talking to me so disrespectfully-โ
โHave you ever spoken to her respectfully? When I wasnโt around to see it, this is how you all bullied her, isnโt it?โ Wyatt straightened up, his voice ice-cold as he confronted Christian.
Before Christian could respond, Wyatt continued, โAbby only acknowledges me, and Iโll protect her. As for the rest of you? You never treated her well, so donโt come crawling around expecting her to be obedient now!โ
