Chapter 136

โ€œStevie, Iโ€™m not selfish,โ€ Daniella finally cracked under his harsh words and started crying.

Tears rolled down her cheeks as she looked up at Stephen, choking out her words. โ€œI couldnโ€™t find the Hearth Table, so I just searched for a place on the delivery app that had chicken soup and went to buy it.

โ€œI didnโ€™t mean toโ€ฆ I just wanted Mom to love me more.โ€

Stephen was about to say more, but Bianca grabbed his arm. โ€œLet it go. Maybe she really didnโ€™t mean it.โ€

โ€œMom, I didnโ€™t do it on purpose. I lied because Abigail came back and I felt insecure,โ€ Daniella cried as she looked at Bianca, making herself look as pitiful as possible.

For the first time, Stephen saw through her act of playing the victim, and it made his blood boil.

Furious, he pointed at Daniella and threatened, โ€œTry lying to me one more time! You said you couldnโ€™t find the Hearth Table on delivery apps, but I found it just fine. Theyโ€™re a five-star restaurant thatโ€™s been on there for years. How is it that only you canโ€™t find them?โ€

โ€œAlright, do you really need to be so aggressive?โ€ Christian interjected.

โ€œFine, I wonโ€™t be aggressive. Tomorrow, sheโ€™s coming with me to the hospital, and weโ€™re bringing Ralph too. Sheโ€™s getting another evaluation, because I want to see if she really has depression!โ€

Stephen didnโ€™t trust a single word that came out of Daniellaโ€™s mouth anymore. Every sentence felt like a lie wrapped in fake emotions.

โ€œStevie,โ€ Daniella looked at him in disbelief. โ€œEven if you hate me, you donโ€™t have to doubt me like this, do you?โ€

โ€œJust tell me if you dare to go or not! I wonโ€™t say anything else, but if you had any conscience at all, you wouldnโ€™t be too lazy to order Mom a simple bowl of chicken soup.โ€

Stephen had yelled at Bianca that day, but heโ€™d been furious then. Now that heโ€™d cooled down, he still felt bad for Bianca. After all, Bianca spoiled Daniella the most in this family.

Daniella apologized, โ€œMom, Iโ€™m sorry. I wonโ€™t do this again.โ€

โ€œSomeone who lies as easily as breathingโ€“I donโ€™t believe youโ€™ll change. Unless you come to the hospital with me tomorrow.โ€ Stephen was determined to investigate everything about Daniella now.

Stephen continued, โ€œIโ€™m not trying to settle scores with you. Just ask yourself. Have we been unfair to you? Even knowing you werenโ€™t our biological daughter, Chris and I spoiled you rotten.

โ€œYou spend almost three million dollars every month while Chris and I get by on 700 thousand at most. We gave you all the spending money, bought you clothes and bags, gave you whatever you wanted. And what did you do in return?โ€

Stephen waited for Daniellaโ€™s answer. Abigail grabbed some water and snacks, then turned to head upstairs. Sheโ€™d heard the argument but figured it had nothing to do with her.

Her complete indifference made Bianca speak up. โ€œAbby, I went to the Hearth Table today. The owner still remembers you even though you havenโ€™t been there in three years.โ€

Abigail paused, confused. โ€˜Was Judy covering for me?โ€™ she thought.

โ€œSo what?โ€ She stopped on the stairs and asked coldly, โ€œWhatโ€™s your point?โ€

Bianca felt like sheโ€™d been slapped. โ€˜What was my point? Did I expect Abigail to suddenly remember the good times we used to have?โ€™ she thought.

Bianca suddenly realized she didnโ€™t have the right to bring up the past anymore. Sheโ€™d given all the love that should have gone to Abigail to Daniella instead, and Daniella hadnโ€™t even been genuinely grateful for it.

โ€˜Am I trying to put all my expectations for a daughter on Abigail because Daniella let me down?โ€™ Bianca thought.

โ€œActually, Mom wanted to say that she wasnโ€™t completely ungrateful for how good you used to be to her,โ€ Stephen said.

A cold smile tugged at the corner of Abigailโ€™s lips. โ€œDo I need her gratitude? Just because she remembers how I treated her before, am I supposed to put on some touching mother-daughter reunion show?โ€

โ€œWatch your mouth!โ€ Christian immediately snapped.

โ€œI wonโ€™t watch anything. So what? Iโ€™m not part of your Gibson family anyway. Iโ€™m just Grandpaโ€™s granddaughter. Whatโ€™s that got to do with you people? Donโ€™t try to lecture me!โ€ Abigail lifted her chin defiantly.

Christian stepped forward, ready to slap her across the face.

Wyattโ€™s voice cut through from the second-floor hallway where heโ€™d been watching. โ€œChris, if you lay one finger on her, youโ€™ll lose every position you have in the Gibson family tomorrow, and your shares will go to her as compensation.โ€

Christian looked up at Wyatt. โ€œGrandpa, youโ€™re being way too biased. Sheโ€™s talking to me so disrespectfully-โ€

โ€œHave you ever spoken to her respectfully? When I wasnโ€™t around to see it, this is how you all bullied her, isnโ€™t it?โ€ Wyatt straightened up, his voice ice-cold as he confronted Christian.

Before Christian could respond, Wyatt continued, โ€œAbby only acknowledges me, and Iโ€™ll protect her. As for the rest of you? You never treated her well, so donโ€™t come crawling around expecting her to be obedient now!โ€
