Chapter 149

โ€œI donโ€™t remember what she said. How did she cross the line?โ€ Abigail asked curiously.

โ€œI never believed you were someoneโ€™s mistress. What she said that day was really manipulative, trying to lead me in a certain direction. Once I figured out what she was doing, I made my choice,โ€ Sebastian said.

Sebastianโ€™s gaze was intense as he stared at Abigail. He pressed on with another question, โ€œDonโ€™t you think someone like that deserves to be dumped in public?โ€

Abigail felt embarrassed under his stare and looked away. She hadnโ€™t realized that heโ€™d broken up with that woman because of her. โ€œThank you.โ€

No matter what, she owed him that much, even if it was way overdue.

โ€œDonโ€™t mention it,โ€ Sebastian said, drawing out his words with a hint of laughter in his voice.

They waited for a while until James came back with the medicine. As soon as he returned, he grabbed Sebastianโ€™s hand to examine it. โ€œLooks like youโ€™re out of commission for tonight. Abby, Iโ€™m putting him in your hands, okay?โ€

โ€œOf course,โ€ Abigail immediately agreed. She was only peeling garlic in the kitchen anyway, so it didnโ€™t matter.

Sebastian took the medicine and looked it over carefully. Then, he handed the antiseptic to Abigail. โ€œUse this to clean my wound first.โ€

Abigail reached for it and twisted off the cap. She took a sniff and couldnโ€™t help frowning, โ€œIt smells like pure alcohol. With a cut that deep, wonโ€™t it hurt like hell?โ€

โ€œItโ€™ll definitely hurt, but I can tough it out,โ€ Sebastian said with a smile.

Abigail pulled over a trash can. She stared at the gash on Sebastianโ€™s hand, holding the antiseptic bottle, but she couldnโ€™t bring herself to pour it on.

Sebastian saw how slowly she was moving, so he grabbed her wrist and poured the antiseptic directly onto the cut himself.

The pain hit him hard and his face went pale. His jaw clenched tight from the sting.

Abigail watched sweat beads form on his forehead and nose, worry written all over her face. โ€œHow bad is it?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m fine.โ€ Sebastianโ€™s breathing got heavier. He picked up the antibiotic powder from the counter and handed it to her. โ€œSprinkle this on top, then wrap it with gauze.โ€

โ€œDoes your skin need to breathe?โ€ Abigail asked as she poured the powder over his wound, her voice full of concern.

โ€œYeah, gauze lets air through better than band-aids,โ€ Sebastian explained.

Abigail had been planning to put a few waterproof band-aids on his finger, but since he preferred gauze, she went with that instead. After sprinkling the powder, she carefully wrapped the gauze around his finger, taking her time to do it right.

Abigail tied a small knot at the end and sat back up straight, looking at Sebastian. โ€œAll done.โ€

Sebastian examined the bandage on his hand and nodded. โ€œIโ€™ll handle the garlic from now on. Maybe you can help them with something else?โ€

Abigail stood up and walked over to the kitchen island, glancing at Warren. โ€œIs there anything I can help with?โ€

Sebastian watched her being so helpful and couldnโ€™t help but smile.

โ€œCan you mince some ginger for me? Are you okay with ginger?โ€ Warren asked with a gentle smile.

Abigail nodded. โ€œYeah, Iโ€™m fine with it. Iโ€™m not pickyโ€“Iโ€™ll eat pretty much anything.โ€

โ€œGreat. I need quite a bit of minced ginger, so just use this food processor and take your time,โ€ Warren told her.

The food processor was compact and easy to handle. Abigail dropped the ginger pieces in, figured out how it worked, then pressed the button on the lid.

She worked slowly and methodically. James and Warren didnโ€™t rush her at all.

After Abigail had processed a whole bowl of minced ginger, Sebastian pushed a pile of peeled and washed garlic toward her. โ€œWash out the processor and run the garlic through it too.โ€

โ€œSure thing.โ€ Abigail didnโ€™t mind the extra work. There was something really nice about everyone cooking together like this.

James and Warren had cooked up a feastโ€“theyโ€™d even roasted a whole chicken. The spread covered all kinds of flavors, from tangy to spicy, creating quite the variety.

After finishing the cooking, they decided to move everything to the living room so they could eat while watching something. James, Warren, and Abigail started carrying the dishes over to the table.

โ€œWhat movie do you guys want to watch?โ€ Sebastian asked, settling onto the carpet by the table with the remote in hand.

โ€œAsk Abby,โ€ James said casually as he set down a dish beside the table.

Abigail was still wondering if theyโ€™d actually be able to finish all this food when she heard the question. โ€œHow about a crime thriller? Iโ€™m into that kind of stuff.โ€

โ€œLet me see whatโ€™s available.โ€ Sebastian started browsing through the options with the remote.

The streaming services here didnโ€™t have nearly as many titles as back home. He searched for a while but could only find some older movies.

โ€œGuess weโ€™re going with a classic then.โ€ Sebastian tossed the remote aside.

Abigail had seen that one before, so she picked up the remote and started looking herself. After scrolling through the options without finding anything appealing, she finally settled on a horror movie.

When James saw her choice, he shot Sebastian an amused look.

Sebastian was leaning against the edge of the couch, and he asked with casual indifference, โ€œNot a fan of my pick?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve already seen it. I want something fresh,โ€ Abigail replied, then went back to help carry the food over.

After they brought the drinks upstairs, all four of them sat down together.
