Listen to this chapter:

Wyatt was still hesitating, while Warren didnโ€™t seem the least bit rushed. He simply watched Wyatt with a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

Christian jumped in quickly. โ€œGrandpa, isnโ€™t it a bit undignified to let an outsider meddle in our companyโ€™s affairs?โ€ He knew full well that if Wyatt agreed, he would lose his position as the companyโ€™s deputy general manager.

Wyatt shot him a glare. โ€œZip it. I havenโ€™t even gotten around to holding you accountable yet.โ€ A good chunk of Gibson Groupโ€™s financial losses had Christianโ€™s name on it too.

Abigail looked up without meaning to when she heard Wyatt speak. Beside her, Sebastian reached over and tapped the screen for her.

She was no longer in the mood to play. Looking at Wyatt, she asked, โ€œIs the company really in that much trouble?โ€

โ€œIt is. But itโ€™s not your concern,โ€ Wyatt replied.

Christian blurted out without thinking, โ€œHow is it not her concern? If you see her as part of the Gibson family, then when the company is in trouble, she should carry that burden too.โ€

Stephen was about to snap back, but Warren cut in first.

โ€œThen give me a call when youโ€™ve made up your mind, Mr. Wyatt Gibson. For now, letโ€™s just eat.โ€

Everyone understood Warren had no interest in watching the Gibson family argue over dinner.

And just like that, the table split into two camps. Stephen was on Abigailโ€™s side, but since he was seated far from her, he didnโ€™t get a chance to offer her any food. He was so annoyed he couldnโ€™t even enjoy the meal.

After dinner, Abigail planned to head home with Wyatt. Sebastian walked them downstairs and asked, โ€œDid you drive here?โ€

Wyatt nodded. โ€œYeah, Iโ€™ve got my driver with me, Mr. Robinson. Maybe next time. Iโ€™ve got a few things to talk over with the kids today, so Iโ€™ll spare you the trouble of taking her home.โ€ He remained perfectly polite with Sebastian.

Wyatt thought to himself, โ€˜Every time I look at this young man, Iโ€™m still impressed. Especially seeing him in that suit.โ€™

Sebastian glanced at Abigail and gave a slight nod. โ€œAlright. Take care on the way home.โ€

Abigail looked at him and softly replied, โ€œYou too.โ€

On the way to the parking lot, Sebastian asked in a casual tone, โ€œDid you like the food tonight?โ€ But beneath the nonchalance, there was a hint of nervousness.

Warren and James followed behind them. Mimicking Sebastianโ€™s tone, James turned to his buddy and said, โ€œDid the dishes I picked tonight suit your taste?โ€

โ€œScrew off. Thatโ€™s disgusting.โ€ Warren kicked him without hesitation. He couldnโ€™t help muttering to himself that James was great at everything, except for his habit of being obnoxiously cheeky sometimes.

Clutching his rear, James shot him a look and teased, "I meant, thatโ€™s probably what Seb was trying to say.โ€

โ€œAbby wouldโ€™ve picked up on it,โ€ Warren replied with a smirk.

James caught up to him and slung an arm around his shoulder, lowering his voice. โ€œIโ€™m actually really curious. Why would you agree to Mr. Wyatt Gibsonโ€™s terms? And with all the potential partners out there, why would he go to you of all people?โ€

He thought, โ€˜I didnโ€™t mean it any other way. I do like Abigail. She managed to get herself on this project by proving herself, not because of anyone else. Even Sebastian and I agreed she deserved a shot.

โ€˜But if Mr. Wyatt Gibson picked Warren just because sheโ€™s close to Sebastianโ€ฆ that ticks me off. What, the whole family is using her now?โ€

Warren answered under his breath, โ€œWell, what I can say is that Mr. Wyatt Gibson is playing a long game here.โ€

He pondered, โ€˜Mr. Wyatt Gibson couldโ€™ve gone to Sebastian or even James. But he came to meโ€ฆ That mustโ€™ve been a carefully weighed decision.โ€™

James still looked intrigued, urging, โ€œOh, come on. Spill it.โ€

Warren wanted Sebastian to hear this too, so he said, โ€œLater.โ€

Meanwhile, after Abigail and Sebastian had parted ways, she stepped into Wyattโ€™s stretch business car, just in time to see Stephen kick the back of Christianโ€™s seat.

Stephen snapped, โ€œWhatโ€™s that supposed to mean, huh? Sheโ€™s supposed to take on the burden? Take on what, exactly? She hasnโ€™t spent a cent of our money.

โ€œThe ones who should take responsibility are you and Daniella! Who was it that kept giving her three million dollars in allowance every month, even when the company was losing money year after year, hm?โ€

Wyattโ€™s face darkened as he climbed into the car. Abigail, on the other hand, just slid into the seat beside him.

Daniella tried to follow and sit next to Wyatt too, but Stephen jumped up and grabbed her wrist, eyeing her like she was up to something. โ€œWhat do you think youโ€™re doing?โ€

โ€œI want to sit with Grandpa,โ€ Daniella replied, struggling against his grip and trying to push him off.

Stephen scoffed, โ€œYou? Sit with him? You donโ€™t deserve it. You knew the company had been in trouble, and you still blew through all three million dollars every month. And you didnโ€™t even flinch.โ€

The noise was giving Wyatt a headache. He finally spoke up. โ€œStevie, could you tone it down a bit?โ€

Stephen then yanked Daniella back toward her seat and shoved her down hard.

Daniellaโ€™s back hit the cushion with a thud, and she cried out, โ€œStevie, that hurt!โ€

โ€œOh, cut the act,โ€ Stephen said coldly, tossing the words over his shoulder as he dropped into his own seat.
