โI drove over. Come downstairs in a bit.โ Sebastianโs voice had lost its usual laid-back tone.
โIโm fine.โ Abigail wiped the tears off her face. She was indeed upset, but not enough to expect anything from Sebastian just because of what Stephen did.
โHe even called to threaten me,โ Sebastian sighed. โHe said if I didnโt come, I shouldnโt call myself your boyfriend.โ
โWeโre not even dating.โ Abigailโs tone was awkward. She truly thought Stephen had something wrong with his brain. Otherwise, he wouldnโt cause her to lose her composure in front of Sebastian.
Abigail had always thought she was emotionally stable, yet a butterfly hairclip had her crying in front of Sebastian. She felt pathetic.
โBut I want to.โ Sebastianโs voice softened.
Tears still clung to Abigailโs cheeks, and she didnโt know how to respond.
โYou donโt have to answer me right away,โ he added.
Abigail checked the timeโit was nearly 1 a.m. She said, โItโs too late, you really shouldnโt come.โ
She had always seen Sebastian as a good friend. Sometimes even she didnโt understand what was bothering herโjust the idea of casually starting a relationship with him made her uncomfortable. Even if he wanted to date her, she couldnโt allow herself to agree so easily.
โHonestly, I canโt sleep either. Thereโs something I canโt figure out. Want to chat?โ Sebastian asked.
Abigail couldnโt help but ask, โWhat is it?โ
โIโm working on an AI. Something for mass use, to help people search for informationโbut Iโm stuck on part of the concept,โ Sebastian said.
Abigail unconsciously tightened her grip on her phone. She found it oddly coincidental that their ideas were so similar.
โYou still need to look things up?โ Abigail found it hard to believe. With his abilities, he had an entire team that could bring his ideas to life in minutes. She didnโt underestimate the power of wealthy people.
โI donโt, but my classmates and their friends do,โ Sebastian said casually.
Abigail said, โThen come and tell me in person.โ
โDonโt hang up, Iโm almost there,โ he said.
โWhere exactly are you stuck?โ Abigail hesitated, debating whether she should share what she had been working on. But if she did, it would turn into a work-related matter.
The truth was that Abigail had only intended to work slowly on her AI project. She hadnโt planned to rush, because she wanted to add her own creative touches. It was born out of personal interest and practical needs.
โIโll tell you when I get there,โ Sebastian said with a laugh.
Abigail wondered if he was just teasing her. But a few minutes later, Sebastian really did pull up outside Gibson Villa.
Gibson Villa was located in an upscale neighborhood in Cobridge, where the streetlights were bright even at night. So when Sebastian drove his luxury car, Daniella, sitting by her bedroom window, spotted him immediately.
A handsome man stepped out of the car, his white shirt casually tucked into his waistband, giving him a free-spirited look.
Daniellaโs eyes burned with jealousy. She couldnโt understand why he liked Abigail more. Even if she was the adopted daughter of the Gibson family, Daniella thought she had been carefully groomedโher looks and knowledge far surpassed Abigailโs.
Ralph had rejected Daniella multiple times and even defended Abigail. And now, even someone like Sebastian cared so much about Abigail. This baffled Daniella.
Soon, Abigail appeared. The moment Sebastian, leaning against the car, saw her, his cold expression melted away.
Daniella watched for a while before furiously yanking the curtains shut. She grew more convinced that Abigail didnโt deserve Sebastian.
All her jealousy and resentment boiled up inside her. If Abigail had never existed, she would still be the beloved princess of the Gibson family.
She clenched her fists and thought viciously, โAbigail should just die.โ
At the same time, Abigail got into the car with Sebastian. She thought theyโd just sit and chat about her ideas of AI in the car, but he started the engine.
โWhere are we going?โ Abigail asked immediately.
โTo my place for a bit,โ Sebastian replied.
โOn such a late night?โ Abigail immediately grew cautious. Going to a manโs houseโespecially one who had expressed interest in herโthis late at night could spell all kinds of trouble.
โWhy is your mind full of those indecent thoughts?โ Sebastian chuckled lazily.
โItโs called basic self-protection awareness,โ Abigail replied.
โThatโs a good mindset. You should have this kind of thinking around all men from now on.โ Sebastian couldnโt help but laugh approvingly.
