Chapter 222

Daniella had caused quite a scene today, and there would probably be another dramatic showdown tonight.

Biancaโ€™s eye injury turned out to be pretty serious.

When the workday ended, Abigail still had a mountain of work to finish. She decided to stay late at the officeโ€“anything was better than going home to watch Gabriel deal with Daniella.

Timothy always liked being the last one to leave. Coming out of his office and spotting Abigail still at her desk, he immediately called out, โ€œStop working overtime already. If you keep this up, Mr. Robinsonโ€™s going to think Iโ€™m running a sweatshop. Go home!โ€

Abigail had zero interest in going home.

โ€œCome on, donโ€™t drag your feet,โ€ Timothy urged from his office doorway, โ€œHurry up, I need to turn off the lights!โ€

Left with no choice, Abigail reluctantly shut down her computer and packed up her things.

In the taxi, she decided to head to Sebastianโ€™s place instead. That was when Wyatt called.

Abigail hit the answer button, but before she could speak, Wyattโ€™s voice came through, โ€œYou need to come back. The whole house is in chaos.โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s no point in me coming back,โ€ Abigail said. โ€œDaniella attacked Mrs. Gibson today.โ€ She had no interest in getting involved in the Gibson familyโ€™s mess.

โ€œI know,โ€ Wyatt said. โ€œBut Gabrielโ€™s about to beat Daniella to death. I canโ€™t stop him. I think since youโ€™ll be running the Gibson family someday, you canโ€™t let things fall apart like this. You need to be able to control them.โ€

Abigail had zero interest in controlling anyone. She would never reconcile with the people in the Gibson family who had hurt her.

โ€œGrandpa, the Gibsons brought this on themselves,โ€ she said. โ€œWhether itโ€™s Daniella getting beaten or the Gibsons doing the beating. If you canโ€™t stand watching, call the police.โ€

She respected Wyatt deeply, but she couldnโ€™t fix the Gibson familyโ€™s problems. Going back to help Daniella would make her sick. And condemning Daniella for Gabriel was even more impossible.

โ€œAbby, if you donโ€™t want to get involved, then I wonโ€™t either,โ€ Wyatt said. He despised how Daniella had treated Abigail, but he was still an elder. At his age, seeing Daniella beaten so badly she could barely move tugged at his conscience.

But Abigailโ€™s words were a wake-up call. He couldnโ€™t solve the Gibson familyโ€™s deep-rooted problems either. Fine. Let them tear each other apart.

After hanging up the phone, Abigail stared at the streetlights for a moment before deciding to head to Judyโ€™s place.

Sheโ€™d been racking her brain for ways to deal with the Gibson family, but now she realized she had the perfect weapon right in front of her. She shouldnโ€™t need to go back and interfere.

When pushed to the extreme, things swing the other way. Step by step, theyโ€™d forced Abigail to become patient and calculating.

And Daniella, the very person theyโ€™d groomed, would eventually turn against them in a desperate fight. All Abigail needed to do was make sure Daniella didnโ€™t leave the country.

When Abigail arrived at The Hearth Table, she skipped ordering food and went straight to Judyโ€™s private room.

Judy came in shortly after.

โ€œHere are the account books from the three years you were gone,โ€ Judy said gently, handing them over.

Whenever Abigail came to her room without eating, it meant she was there to review the accounts.

โ€œAfter supporting the kids who are struggling, thereโ€™s about 1.3 million dollars left,โ€ Judy explained in her soft voice.

Abigail nodded. โ€œI need to withdraw around a million dollars. I have some things to take care of.โ€

โ€œWhy are you being so formal with me?โ€ Judy smiled as she knelt by the bed. She lifted the bedding and reached into the corner underneath, pulling out a bank card.

โ€œThe PIN is your birthday,โ€ she said, handing it to Abigail.

Abigail never celebrated her actual birthday. The only date she acknowledged was when she first arrived at the orphanage. After returning to the Gibson family and gradually realizing they never truly cared for her, she stopped thinking of her birth date as special at all.

โ€œJudy, Daniellaโ€™s going through exactly what I went through back then,โ€ Abigail took the card and said softly.

โ€œYouโ€™ve been at the orphanage longer than anyone else,โ€ Judy said. โ€œBeth always said you were too beautiful and smart to let just anyone adopt you. She didnโ€™t trust anyone else to take care of you, so she kept you here and raised you like her own daughter.โ€

Judy continued, โ€œYouโ€™ve been a role model for all the kids here. You study hard, youโ€™re kind to every child who comes through these doors, and you treat them like family. But Daniella? Whateverโ€™s happening to her now, she brought it on herself. Donโ€™t go soft on her.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m glad you said that.โ€ Abigail looked up with a smile of relief.

Sheโ€™d been worried that Beth might disapprove if she found out how Abigail had been ignoring Daniellaโ€™s troubles lately. But if Judy thought she was doing the right thing, then she wouldnโ€™t feel guilty anymore.

โ€œGo live your life freely. Donโ€™t worry about me or what Beth thinks of you.โ€ Judy reached out and gently touched Abigailโ€™s hair. โ€œNo matter what you do to the Gibson family, youโ€™ll always be our good girl.โ€
