Chapter 247
โSo, this is why theyโre backing Gabriel?โ Abigail slammed the contract onto the table.
โExactly. Even when your grandfather was alive, those old men on the board never wanted you in. They only grudgingly agreed after he secured several major projects. But now that those ventures are losing money, of course, they canโt stand you anymore,โ Warren said.
Abigailโs gaze turned icy. She didnโt say a word for a long moment, her grip tightening around the fountain pen in her hand.
Sebastian said to her, โI bet they donโt want Gabriel in jail. Theyโre hoping he comes back and keeps his grip on Gibson Group.โ
โHim?โ Abigail scoffed in disbelief.
โYou showed up out of nowhere,โ Sebastian said casually. โAnd youโre aligned with Ren. They canโt control you, and that scares them.โ
Abigailโs gaze sharpened. โThen weโll see how the Gibsons play this. If they want to avoid prison, they better behave. Once Iโve figured out how to run this companyโฆโ
Warren reassured her, โWith the companyโs debit, letting them keep their shares for now might not be a bad thing.โ
Soon, it was time for the meeting. Sebastian remained in Abugat. Warren entered the conference room.
Abigail knew full well he wanted to avoid jail, so heโd probably cut a deal with Eli.
Eli turned to Abigail. Laying bluntly, โLetโs get to the point. Iโm busy andโฆ Gabrielโs still your father. And your brother. But now that your grandfatherโs gone and Gibson Group is in chaos, itโs your familyโs responsibility to clean up the mess.โ
Abigail stayed silent while Warren tapped his pen, a knowing smile playing on his lips throughout. His phone sat nearby, quietly on a call.
Eli continued, โSo, the reason I called this meeting is to ask you to show some leniencyโfor Gabrielโs sake in court, submit a letter of forgiveness. Let the public and the court know youโre willing to move past this, because, after all, theyโre still your familyโฆโ
Before Eli could finish, Warren interrupted, tapping the table with a sharp click. Warren adjusted his collar and smiled. โIf Iโm not mistaken, majority share rules the floor.โ
โWhat do you mean by that?โ Eli demanded, his tone hardening.
Warren reached into his pockets with a smile. โSeems like I forgot to mention that several shareholders have privatelyโฆโ
A flicker crossed Eliโs face as he recalled that Abigail already held 20% of the shares, and as stipulated in Wyattโs will, his 10% stake would automatically be transferred to her in the event of his demise.
Warren turned to Abigail as he asked, โSo, Abby. What do you say? You feel like forgiving the people who wrecked yourโฆ Letโs skip the fantasy talk. Abbyโs not in the mood. If you want to stay at the table, change your approach.โ
Eliโs face turned solemn with barely contained anger.
Abigail didnโt bother being nice either, โLetโs be real, Mr. Monroe. You just donโt want me as the CEO of Gibson Group. Fine, Iโll step down and even return my shares to you all. But Renโs initial investment needs to be pooled together and wired back to him today.โ
Abigail thought, โIf it werenโt for Wyatt, no one would even care about this stupid company. They thought they could use the groupโs mess to pressure me? They clearly picked the wrong person to mess with!โ
Just as Eli was about to speak again, the other shareholders shot him warning glances.
Abigail stood her ground. โSince everyoneโs here, Iโve got something to say too. Aside from Renโs capital, and factoring out the losses from my grandfatherโs projects, the company has 230 million dollars of debt. Every one of you whoโs taken dividends over the years is responsible for part of it.โ
Abigail paused briefly, then smirked. โAfter discussing with Ren and exercising my authority as the biggest shareholder, Iโve decided to implement dividend cuts starting today until the 230-million-dollar debt is fully repaid.โ
โWhat the hell do you mean?!โ A shareholder sprang to his feet, demanding angrily.
Abigail leaned back in her chair, calm and unbothered. โIt means your dividends are going toward debt repayment. Itโs not that hard to understand, right? Given how serious Gabriel, Stephen, and Biancaโs roles were, theyโll cover 100 million dollars of it. The remaining amount is on the ten of you. Payouts will be docked according to how many shares you hold. And just to be clear, Ren and I are exempted from this.โ
