Listen to this chapter:

The only reason those companies had agreed to work with Gibson Group in the first place was because of Wyattโ€™s legacy. His achievements had earned them one last vote of confidence.

But now, with the company in scandal and Wyatt gone, none of them were going to cut his successor any slack.

Sebastian said, โ€œThis industryโ€™s all about clout and leverage. If youโ€™ve got brand value and something to offer, they treat you like royalty. The moment youโ€™ve got nothing, they trample you.โ€

James, still driving, added, โ€œThis is a ruthlessly pragmatic circle. Honestly, the three who showed up tonight were already doing Gibson Group a favor. The ones who didnโ€™t come are showing their true colors.โ€

โ€œJust wait. Once word gets out that Seb and I accompanied you tonight, theyโ€™ll definitely be asking you out to dinner.โ€

Abigail blinked. โ€œSoโ€ฆ should I host another one?โ€

Sebastian said in his usual laid-back tone, โ€œOf course. No reason to take a loss for nothing. When you do, just call me.โ€

Abigail looked at him, momentarily at a loss for words. She thought, โ€˜After all, itโ€™s all thanks to them!โ€™

Sebastian said, โ€œI know what youโ€™re thinking. But in this industry, everyone wishes they had some backing. Youโ€™ve got me, James, and Warren in your corner. Thatโ€™s something to be grateful for. Thereโ€™s nothing shameful about making money.โ€

Abigail said softly, โ€œI just feel like I owe you guys so much. Being friends with meโ€ฆ kind of feels like being stuck with trouble.โ€

Sebastian let out a quiet chuckle. โ€œIf I thought you were trouble, I wouldnโ€™t have gotten involved in the first place. And honestly, your situationโ€™s really not a big deal to us, so helping out was no trouble.โ€

James chimed in from the driverโ€™s seat, finally saying what heโ€™d been holding back, โ€œFalling for someone is never easy. If youโ€™re gonna complain about their messy family, then maybe you shouldnโ€™t have gotten close in the first place.โ€

Sebastian smiled faintly. โ€œHeโ€™s got a point.โ€

Abigailโ€™s cheeks flushed slightly.

Sebastian was at it again, teasing her, โ€œCome on. Give me a chance to get to know you.โ€

Abigail fidgeted with her fingers and said, โ€œIโ€™ll be swamped with company business from now on, so I wonโ€™t have much time. Plus, with my parents and brother all in prison, itโ€™ll affect our kidsโ€™ chances of getting government jobs in the futureโ€ฆโ€

โ€˜I think Iโ€™m getting ahead of myself here,โ€™ she thought, and immediately bit her lip in embarrassment.

James burst out laughing. โ€œAbby, I didnโ€™t realize you were this serious. Seb, youโ€™d better stop playing it cool and start getting serious too.โ€

Sebastian leaned in closer and said with a grin, โ€œForget about government jobs. Land more deals and build up our fortune so our kids and grandkids will never have to worry about a thing. How does that sound to you?โ€

Abigail gave him a look and pushed him away. โ€œThereโ€™s no point talking about our grandkids now. Weโ€™re still just getting to know each other.โ€

Sebastian looked at her with hopeful eyes and asked, โ€œSoโ€ฆ wanna make us official?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re hiding something from me. If you donโ€™t come clean, I wonโ€™t make us official,โ€ Abigail warned. Honestly, it had to be Clark. Sheโ€™d suspected for a long time that he...

Sebastian straightened up, frowning slightly as he thought it over before saying, โ€œYou already know the truth in your heart. I canโ€™t explain everything, but I promise whatever it was, itโ€™s over. It wonโ€™t affect our future.โ€

Chapter 251

Abigail turned to him and asked, โ€œThen can I ask about my time in prison?โ€

Sebastian nodded. โ€œAsk away.โ€

Abigail asked, โ€œI spent six months doing odd jobs inside, then got transferred to a tech project team where I started working with code. Did you pull strings for me?โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ Sebastian replied.

โ€œThatโ€™s all I needed to know?โ€ In that moment, everything clicked. She finally understood how much heโ€™d done behind the scenes to ease her way back to a normal life. Knowing this, Abigail felt perfectly content.

โ€œThank you,โ€ Abigail murmured, a note of happiness coloring her voice.

โ€œThen make us official,โ€ Sebastian said quickly, not missing a beat.

Abigail looked at him. โ€œSo, what should I call you now?โ€

โ€œCall me babe,โ€ Sebastian said, leaning closer to her.

โ€œThatโ€™s too much. Iโ€™ll just call you Seb like everyone else,โ€ Abigail said. She hated adding the word โ€œbabe.โ€ It just sounded way too cheesy.

โ€œFine, call me whatever you like. Itโ€™s your choice,โ€ Sebastian replied, trying to keep a straight face, but his smile was fighting a losing battle.

โ€˜Iโ€™ve gotta celebrate this later,โ€™ Sebastian thought to himself.

โ€œHey, when we get to your place later, could you help me figure out how to make the robot smarter?โ€ Abigail said. Truth be told, sheโ€™d been thinking about this ever since they left the hotel.

Sebastian was rendered speechless. He thought, โ€œWhy arenโ€™t we celebrating with a cheesy rom-com? Instead, I have to work on such a happy day!"
