Chapter 71

Abigail stared at Daniella with icy fury.

Daniella cowered closer to Gabriel, panicking. โ€œAbby, I didnโ€™t mean to upset you. I just want our family to get along. You can help Dad if you try. Why wonโ€™t you?โ€

Gabriel seethed inwardly at her words. He thought, โ€˜Typical of someone who wasnโ€™t raised here. Daniโ€™s loyalty is leagues above hers. We wasted years on this ungrateful brat!โ€™

โ€œStop staring at Dani like that,โ€ he barked. โ€œYou have until tonight to decide. Refuse, and youโ€™re out of this house for goodโ€“no more visits to your grandpa.โ€ Then he grabbed Daniellaโ€™s arm and strode off.

As Daniella brushed past Abigail, all traces of fear vanished. She lifted her chin, a smug smirk playing on her lips.

Once outside Gibson Villa, Abigailโ€™s expression turned stone-cold.

Bianca hurried over and took her hand. โ€œAbby, did you and your dadโ€ฆโ€

Abigail yanked her hand away before she could finish.

Stephen started to lash out, but Ralph held him back. โ€œAbby, if youโ€™re struggling with this, I can talk to Mr. Gibson againโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDonโ€™t bother. The Gibson family raised me from 12 to 15, but Iโ€™ve already repaid that debt. Every one of them knows exactly how,โ€ Abigail said icily. โ€œIโ€™m taking Grandpa out of the sanatorium. If anyone tries to stop meโ€ฆโ€

She paused, and her gaze swept across the family members. Then she sneered, โ€œYouโ€™ll regret it. Iโ€™ve compromised for Grandpa before, but if you think thatโ€™s a weakness, youโ€™re mistaken.โ€ With that, she turned and left.

When the Celestial Groupโ€“Halden Group partnership launched, Abigail joined Timothy at Celestial Group to hash out project details. As they exited the elevator, they ran into Stephen and Daniella.

Daniellaโ€™s smile faltered at the sight of Abigail beside Timothy. In an instant, she linked arms with her sister. โ€œAbby! I knew youโ€™d joined Halden Group, but I never thought Iโ€™d run into you here until today!โ€

Abigail snatched her hand back immediately, eyeing Daniella with cold detachment. โ€œWho are you?โ€

Stephen was livid at her words. Before he could leap to Daniellaโ€™s defense, Abigail cut him off. โ€œWeโ€™re in a hurry. Could you both step aside?โ€

Timothy gave them a puzzled glance and then gestured for Abigail to follow.

Once they were out of earshot, Daniella said tearfully, โ€œI told you. Now that sheโ€™s buddying up with Mr. Robinson, she thinks sheโ€™s too good for us. And you fought with Dad over her.โ€

Stephen was irritated but softened his tone. โ€œJust focus on work, alright? Donโ€™t let it get to you.โ€

In the elevator, as soon as the doors shut, Daniellaโ€™s hand clenched her bag involuntarily.

Abigail was with Timothy, which meant she was in R&D, Halden Groupโ€™s most critical department. โ€˜Whatโ€™s her position there? Timothyโ€™s assistant?โ€™ Daniella wondered.

In her office, Daniella stared at her design drafts, unable to focus. โ€˜How could Abigail, with a jail record and no top-tier degree, land a role in R&D?โ€™ she thought.

She put down her pencil, put her computer on sleep mode, and messaged Claudia.

At the cafรฉ downstairs, sheโ€™d just sat down when Claudia arrived.

โ€œStuck on a design?โ€ Claudia asked with a smile as she took a seat.

Daniella acted surprised. โ€œHow did you know Iโ€™m struggling?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re the design departmentโ€™s golden girl. Every move you make is watched by those young hotshots. News travels fast,โ€ Claudia laughed.

Daniella flushed slightly and slid the coffee sheโ€™d ordered toward Claudia, sighing softly, โ€œItโ€™s a family drama. I wonโ€™t burden you with it. Iโ€™ll snap out of it after this coffee. I promise I wonโ€™t let it mess with my work.โ€

Claudia recalled that Daniella came from a well-off family and had an older brother who drove her to and from work.

She took a sip of coffee and said lightly, โ€œItโ€™s break time. Letโ€™s ditch work talk. Personal stuff is fair game. Did you clash with someone at home?โ€

Daniella looked torn, hesitating before muttering, โ€œMaybe I should keep quiet. I donโ€™t want to jump to conclusions. Maybe Iโ€™m misjudging my sister.โ€

โ€œYour sister?โ€ Claudia asked, confused.

โ€œMm. Sheโ€™s in Haldenโ€™s R&D. She just got out of jail recently and only has a high school diploma. The family tried to hook her up with a job, but she refused and said she wanted to do it on her own.

โ€œToday I saw her with Mr. Newman from Halden. I canโ€™t help but worry.โ€ Daniella finished, biting her lower lip worriedly.
