Listen to this chapter:

Hearing this, the woman beside Sebastian immediately puckered her lips and whined, โ€œWhy are you so concerned about her?โ€

โ€œMr. Robinson, if you want to know, Iโ€™ll come up with a plan and fill you in later. I need to go now,โ€ Abigail said. Sheโ€™d keep her gratitude buried. Maybe heโ€™d just see it as sucking up.

Sebastian stuffed his hands in his pockets, voice lazy and detached. โ€œJeremiah, escort her back.โ€

Before Abigail could refuse, she heard Jeremiah say to the woman, โ€œMs. Grant, letโ€™s move.โ€

โ€œWait, what?โ€ Abigail was confused.

Sheila Grant erupted in anger, stomping her foot. โ€œSebastian, what the hell does this mean?โ€

Sebastian frowned slightly in displeasure, instructing Jeremiah. โ€œChoose a gift for her and then send her off.โ€

Abigail suddenly realized he was breaking up with Sheila in public. โ€˜What a capricious man,โ€™ she thought.

Sheilaโ€™s face paled, realizing sheโ€™d crossed a line. โ€œIโ€“I know I messed up. Donโ€™t be angry, okay?โ€ she stammered.

Sebastian stopped, all forced politeness. โ€œDonโ€™t make a scene. Stand here and wait for Larry to take you to pick out a gift.โ€ His smile was icy, eyes like frosted glass.

Before Sheila could plead, Jeremiah cut her off. โ€œIโ€™d advise you to watch your tongue in the future. Spreading unfounded rumors is your issue, but involving Mr. Robinson? You know the price.โ€

Abigail was startled at Jeremiahโ€™s sharp tone.

After warning Sheila, Jeremiah turned to Abigail. โ€œLetโ€™s go. Mr. Robinson hasnโ€™t had dinner yet.โ€

Abigail glanced at the devastated Sheila. She thought, โ€˜Being with a powerful man is no picnic.โ€™

But she declined Jeremiahโ€™s offer. โ€œItโ€™s getting late. I should head home too.โ€ Before he could argue, she spun around and walked briskly away, quickly flagging down a taxi and climbing inside.

When Jeremiah reached the parking lot and slid into the car, he explained to Sebastian, who was already waiting inside, โ€œMs. Gibson said she wanted to head home. I figured the juice splashed on her clothes must be sticky and made her uncomfortable, so I didnโ€™t stop her.โ€

Sebastian shot back with a sarcastic edge, โ€œSince when do I care?โ€

Speechless, Jeremiah thought, โ€˜Didnโ€™t he want to know how Abigail planned to trace the culprit through a single screenshot?โ€™

The moment Abigail returned home, Daniella sprang up from the couch, concern etched on her face. โ€œAbby, what the hell happened to you?!โ€

Her outburst made Gabriel and Bianca, whoโ€™d been watching TV on the couch, both turn toward Abigail.

โ€œTake a wild guess. She got jumped for being a mistress,โ€ Stephen jeered from the other couch.

He thought she had it coming. Heโ€™d tried to stick up for her, only to get called out for self-indulgence.

Gabriel and Bianca immediately recalled what Daniella had said earlier.

โ€œStevie, maybe itโ€™s a misunderstanding. Sure, her joining Haldenโ€™s R&D and working with Mr. Newman looks fishy, but that doesnโ€™t mean sheโ€™s sleeping with him,โ€ Daniella said, her eyes darting between the skeptical Gabriel and Bianca.

โ€œShe got her hair pulled, juice dumped on her, and publicly shamed in a restaurant. The videoโ€™s blowing up on Cobridgeโ€™s social feeds! Whereโ€™s the misunderstanding?โ€ Stephen barked, leaping to his feet.

He continued, โ€œRalphโ€™s idea of her working at Halden Group as a nanny was already giving her too much credit. Turns out sheโ€™s after bigger prey in senior management!โ€

โ€œIf Grandpa hears about this, his health will tank,โ€ Daniella added, voice heavy with worry.

Abigail didnโ€™t bat an eye at the threat. She knew Wyatt wouldnโ€™t buy it for a second. Too tired to argue, she just padded upstairs in her slippers, silent as a ghost.

That sullen silence only made Daniella giddy. She thought, โ€˜This scandal was perfect. Abigail and Timothy will definitely be fired from Halden Group!โ€™

Bianca grabbed her arm in a vice-like grip, voice shrill. โ€œYou actually became the other woman? You turned down your dadโ€™s perfect plan, but youโ€™d go behind someoneโ€™s back like that?!โ€

Abigail yanked her arm away. โ€œSince youโ€™ve already judged me, why bother asking?โ€

In a flash, Biancaโ€™s palm cracked across her cheek. โ€œStevie risked everything to protect you, fought tooth and nail with your dad. And this is how you repay him? I shouldโ€™ve dragged you to the altar myself!โ€

The slap echoed in Abigailโ€™s ears, drowning out all sound. As she stared at Biancaโ€™s furious face, the disgust boiling inside her solidified into a crushing weight. It squeezed her chest so tight she could barely draw breath.

There was no point in defending herself. Her explanations fell on deaf ears. Even her own family trusted her less than an outsider.
