Chapter 117: You Are the One Who Needs My Help

Unlike Gianna, Raquel’s heart held no trace of warmth. “Fiancé? Who would want a vegetable for a fiancé?” Her gaze dripped with contempt.

“If he wants to play dead to escape me, then let him die for real. The Quixall family has no room for trash, but your family seems happy to collect it.” Gianna dug her nails into her palms, reminding herself not to lose her temper. Once she lost her temper, it was truly over.

Her voice softened. “What will it take for you to save him?”

Raquel pretended to ponder, then summoned the tall guard and whispered instructions. Once she finished speaking, the tall security guard showed a puzzled expression. However, he didn’t dare defy her orders and turned to enter the mansion.

Gianna didn’t know Raquel’s game, but with Caleb’s life hanging by a thread, she had no choice. A minute later, the guard returned, handing Raquel an object. Raquel held the object up high, marveling at it as it shimmered in the sunlight.

“My, what a sharp point. I wonder how it’ll feel piercing flesh?”

Gianna watched her warily. “What exactly are you trying to do?”

Raquel smirked. “What am I doing? Aren’t you the one asking for my help? If you want to save that worthless trash, impale your hand with this awl! Only when it stands upright on its own on the back of your hand will I consider your request.”

Gianna’s eyes widened. As the daughter of the Sherman family, she’d never known real hardship. Even a pinprick would earn her father’s fussing, let alone deliberately stabbing herself. Yet here Raquel was, demanding that she stab the awl into the back of her hand. Rage bubbled up within Gianna. This might finally break her restraint.

She angrily rebuked, “Raquel, you’re crossing the line! I’m still the daughter of the Sherman family. Never mind if you disrespect me, but forcing me to harm myself?”

Raquel’s smile vanished. She lost all interest in the person in front of her. “You’re unwilling? Forget it, then.”

She tossed the awl toward the gates. “You’re the one desperate to save Caleb, not me. If you can bear watching him die, then don’t do it.”

Images of Caleb’s bloodied body flooded Gianna’s mind, stealing her breath. Feeling humiliated, she conceded, “Fine, I’ll do it.”

As she moved to retrieve the awl, Raquel stopped her. “Hold on. You refused and insulted me just now.”

“As a form of punishment, you must kneel down to retrieve the awl, then, just as I instructed, pierce it into the back of your hand.”

Gianna’s jaw clenched. “Fine, I’ll do that. But how do I know you’ll honor your word?”

Raquel’s lips thinned. “Don’t push your luck, Gianna. You’re the one who needs my help. You don’t have the right to state your conditions.”

Gianna wavered. Given Raquel’s personality, even if others met her demands, there was a high chance she wouldn’t keep her word. But besides her, who else could donate blood to Caleb? Every second wasted risked his survival.

Gianna closed her eyes, sinking heavily to her knees on the ground. Raquel’s triumphant laughter rang in her ears as Caleb’s broken form haunted her vision.

If there’s any justice in this world, don’t let the good die wronged while the wicked thrive.
