Chapter 148: Does It Hurt a Lot?
Seeing Jesse’s serious expression, Gianna suddenly felt irritated. No wonder Caleb doesn’t like him. Who would be fond of such a thoughtless younger brother?
She took a seat by Caleb’s bedside. “Caleb just woke up and needs to rest. If there’s nothing else, you two should leave.”
However, Jesse remained defiant. “If we are to go back, it should be my brother who personally tells us to. Why should you make decisions on his behalf? It’s not like you’re his significant other.”
Raquel agreed, saying, “Jesse is right, Gianna. You and Caleb are nothing more than strangers. Following him around without any real reason will only serve to annoy him!”
Gianna snorted. “How Caleb feels is his business. Neither of you understands him, so stop making wild guesses. It will only upset him.”
Though she spoke with confidence, she was somewhat nervous inside. It was true she had no formal relationship with Caleb. Following him around was merely a product of her unrequited affection. Moreover, they were about to part ways. Even if they were to jump into a romantic relationship right away, it would only end up in heartbreak.
Meanwhile, Jesse bypassed Gianna, his gaze landing directly on Caleb. “Caleb, what do you think? We’ve just gotten here. Can’t we spend more quality time together?”
Caleb couldn’t help but find it incredibly amusing as he recalled the events that occurred when he had just woken up. Jesse has just been caught red-handed, yet he has the audacity to talk about spending quality time together?
Reflecting on this, Caleb said indifferently, “If you’re willing to truthfully disclose what you mentioned earlier, I might just allow you to stay.”
Jesse opened his mouth, but for a long time, he couldn’t utter a single word. It was just an accident, yet unexpectedly, Caleb remained persistent, not having forgotten it even up to then.
“Caleb, what are you talking about? When have I ever kept secrets from you? Since you want to rest, I’ll leave with Raquel now.”
After speaking, Jesse took Raquel’s hand and left. Their retreating figures even suggested that they were feeling panic. Seeing this, Gianna felt quite perplexed.
“Caleb, is there something you want to know? I can help you check.”
“There’s no need to trouble yourself over this. It’s not a matter of great importance. I can easily find out the truth by asking around.”
“Oh, alright then.”
Gianna’s hand subconsciously clutched the bedsheet, revealing a slightly awkward look. Caleb glanced at her left hand. It seems as if ever since he woke up, her left hand has been hanging by her side, not moving at all. He asked softly, “Are you hurt?”
Startled, Gianna quickly hid her left hand behind her back. “I… I’m fine. I’m the daughter of a wealthy family. I have bodyguards everywhere I go. How could I possibly get hurt?”
Caleb said seriously, “Let me have a look.”
Gianna was unwilling and sidestepped to avoid him. However, she inadvertently bumped her head on the bedpost. The pain was so intense that she saw stars. Seizing the opportunity, Caleb grabbed her hand, examining it closely. Despite him doing so lightly, Gianna couldn’t help but let out a hiss, then instinctively pulled back her hand.
Caleb wore an expression of guilt. “Does it hurt a lot?” I shouldn’t have been so forceful. After all, Gianna is a delicate lady. Even if I had been as gentle as possible, she likely couldn’t bear it.
Noticing Caleb’s gaze on her, Gianna instinctively hid her hands again. “Caleb, really, it’s okay. I accidentally hurt myself. If I’m more careful next time, I won’t get injured.”
