Revenge Forged in Prison

Chapter 166: Open Your Eyes

The woman’s face darkened the moment she was rejected. “Your mother already gave you to me,” she said flatly. “Even if you don’t like it, you’ve got no choice. You’re my children now.”

Chelsea stared at her in disbelief. “That’s not true!”

Even Fabian, who had stayed quiet until now, stepped forward. “There’s no way we’d ever be your kids! Just forget it.”

Rejected again, the woman lost her patience. “You little brats think you can disobey me? If you’d rather take the hard way, I’m happy to oblige!”

With a loud thud, the basement door slammed shut.

Chelsea was just five years old. No matter how brave she acted earlier, once she was left alone, the tears came rushing out. “Fabian,” she sobbed, “what do we do? I just want to go home… I want to see my mom…”

Fabian tried to comfort her. “Don’t be scared, Chelsea. I’ll protect you.”

He wasn’t very eloquent, but his voice held a firm determination.

Chelsea sniffled. “You’re right. I can’t be scared. I’ve got to stay alive so I can see my mom again.”

To wear them down, the woman locked them up without food or water for three days. The hunger left them dizzy, their bodies weak.

That day, Chelsea lay on the ground, barely able to speak. “Fabian… I’m so hungry. I don’t think I can make it…” Her eyelids began to close, her voice fading to a whisper.

Fabian was starving too, but he tried to stay strong. “Chelsea, don’t fall asleep. If you do, you might not wake up…” He’d seen it on TV—people closing their eyes right before death, whispering their goodbyes. And right now, Chelsea looked exactly like that. It terrified him.

He shook her, but she didn’t respond. Panic set in. “Please, Chelsea… don’t fall asleep. Open your eyes. Look at me…”

But she didn’t move. If it weren’t for her faint breathing, he would have thought she was already gone. Clenching his fists, he ran to the door and shouted, “Someone help! Chelsea’s about to die!”

The bodyguard outside lazily kicked the door. “What’s the fuss? If she’s dying, let her die. Why yell about it?”

He’d been waiting for the kids to die. Standing guard at the basement was boring work. The sooner they were gone, the sooner he could wrap up his job. He even considered speeding things up himself.

That made the bodyguard stop and think. Miriam couldn’t have kids. These two had survived three days, way more than the others. Maybe she’d actually grow fond of them. If he got on their good side now, he might get promoted later.

Without another word, the bodyguard took off running.

When Miriam heard, she raised an eyebrow. “So, they finally caved?”

The bodyguard nodded. “Seems that way. The boy said he wants you to be his mother.”

Miriam beamed. “What a great day. Let’s go check on the little ones.”
