Chapter 170: Let Me Out
The bodyguard immediately moved to grab Chelsea. But no matter how hard they tried, she wouldn’t let go. She’d been favored by Miriam; they were afraid of hurting her and risking Miriam’s wrath.
After a moment of awkward silence, one of them cautiously asked, “Mdm. Yardley, what should we…”
Miriam scoffed. “Useless. Just knock her out.”
The bodyguard’s eyes lit up as if he’d been handed a brilliant idea. He raised his hand and gave Chelsea a swift chop to the back of the neck. She collapsed instantly.
He lifted her up gently. “What should we do with her, Mdm. Yardley?”
Mdm. Yardley seems fond of this one. She’ll probably let her stay.
As expected, Miriam thought for a moment. “Take her back to her room. Lock the door. Make sure she can’t escape.”
“Understood.” The bodyguard carried Chelsea back to her princess room.
She was unconscious for several hours. But Fabian stayed on her mind, even in her dreams. That’s what forced her to wake up.
“Fabian!” Reaching up, she wiped cold sweat from her forehead. “I can’t stay here. I have to find Fabian!”
She jumped out of bed and rushed to the door. But it was locked tight. The windows, too. There was no way out.
Am I just supposed to sit here and do nothing?
Chelsea was not willing to accept that. She banged on the door repeatedly. “Is anyone there? Please, let me out!”
There was no response. She kept knocking for five minutes straight until her hands were red and sore.
She slid down the door, exhausted. “Please… I’m begging you… let me out…”
Still, silence.
She fought the fatigue for two more hours before finally falling into a deep sleep. Only in her dreams could she see her friend again.
Days passed, and still, no one would talk to her. Food was shoved in coldly, then the door was slammed shut.
Chelsea cried often while eating. “Fabian… Mom… when can I see you again? This place is awful… It’s scary…”
Suddenly, the door flung open. Miriam stood in the doorway. “You called me. Have you made up your mind?”
Chelsea blinked, confused. She hadn’t called her. Why did she…? Then it hit her—when she cried out for her mom, that cruel woman must have thought she meant her.
After a pause, Chelsea nodded slowly. “Yes, Mom. I’ve made up my mind.”
Miriam narrowed her eyes. “Really?” She didn’t quite believe her. She was just bawling her eyes out seconds ago. What made her change so fast?
But Chelsea nodded with extra force. “It’s true! Mom, please let me out. I want to help you fold the blankets and hang the clothes!”
Miriam smiled. Maybe she missed the peace of the last few days.
“All right, come on out. But no tricks this time.”
Chelsea nodded. But the moment they reached the main hall, she bolted.
