Chapter 180: Behave Properly

He was filled with rage. What’s so entertaining about someone else’s mess? If they’re so obsessed with filming, maybe they should turn the cameras around and catch their own pathetic lives. What disgusting lowlifes!

At first, the onlookers remained unfazed. But when Joseph looked ready to lash out in fury, they finally grew wary. One by one, they lowered their phones and quickly scattered.

Caleb let out a low chuckle. “Don’t you like basking in the spotlight? Congratulations. Now the whole world’s watching.”

Joseph’s glare was venomous. “If anything happens to me, don’t think you can walk away clean.”

Caleb scoffed, his voice laced with mockery. “Walk away? Why would I do that? I wouldn’t miss the show for anything.”

This is shaping up to be the scandal of the year. And didn’t Jesse declare he was going to marry Raquel? I’d love to see how that fairytale turns into a disaster.

At the Quixall residence, Agnes was casually scrolling through her phone when she suddenly froze. Her eyes widened in disbelief. “Mr. and Mrs. Quixall! You need to see this! Something’s seriously wrong!”

She sprinted toward the living room, nearly tripping in her panic.

George glanced up with a frown. “What’s with the commotion? Can’t you behave properly for once?”

Still catching her breath, Agnes straightened up, one hand on her lower back. “I’m sorry, Mr. Quixall, but this is urgent. You really need to see it.”

George sighed, clearly annoyed. “Well? Out with it.”

Agnes has gotten worse lately—always squawking over nothing.

Without another word, Agnes held out her phone and tapped the screen to play the video.

“Mr. and Mrs. Quixall, this was taken earlier tonight outside the Sherman family’s hospital. Mr. Doyle was caught on camera saying all sorts of outrageous things. There were dozens of witnesses. It’s all over social media.”

As the video played, George and Deborah’s expressions stiffened. Joseph’s voice echoed through the room, his every word more damning than the last.

“I have far more tricks up my sleeve than you, so it’s no wonder she chose me over you!” he said in the video.

Then came Caleb’s question. “Does Jesse know about the two of you?”

Joseph remained silent, but the answer was obvious. The fact that Raquel sped off in her car without so much as a backward glance only served to confirm everything Caleb had said.

As the video ended, both George and Deborah’s expressions twisted with fury. They had shown Raquel nothing but kindness. When she previously accused Caleb of assault, they hadn’t hesitated to take her side, believing Caleb was entirely at fault. Never once had they doubted her word.

But now, they realized their blind trust had only fueled her arrogance. Their leniency had become her license to run wild. Not only did she appear in public with another man, but she even managed to cause such a scandal, dragging their family name through the mud.

She has no place in this family. We can’t let someone like her marry Jesse!

George was seething. “I’m calling Ivan right now. This engagement ends today! No more discussion!”

Deborah’s lips trembled as she tried to defend Raquel. “Maybe… maybe she was forced into it. There could be more to the story…”

After all, the Quixalls had known Raquel for years. She had always been the picture of poise—gentle, intelligent, unfailingly respectful to every member of the family. She’d felt like the perfect choice for a daughter-in-law. Moreover, she came from a prestigious background and was her father’s pride and joy. There’s no one better suited than her as our daughter-in-law. Could she really betray Jesse like this? Before the wedding, no less?

But George wasn’t buying it. He snapped, “Don’t make excuses for her. I won’t have a woman like that marrying my son!”

Seeing how furious her husband was, Deborah fell quiet. Deep down, even she couldn’t deny the unease growing in her chest.
