Chapter 184 – Shameless As Ever
With a smile playing at the corners of his mouth, Jesse responded, “All right!” After speaking, he swept Raquel into his arms and carried her toward the staircase.
Raquel blushed. “Jesse, you can’t do this! Mr. and Mrs. Quixall are here, and my parents are watching us. And you just went ahead and picked me up…”
With a smile, Jesse said, “Why be shy about this? We’re going to be married in a few days. Things like this will become a regular occurrence.”
Burying her face shyly into his chest, Raquel felt her entire face turning red.
Chuckling heartily, Jesse said, “Raquel, you’re too shy!”
The two of them headed straight upstairs, completely disregarding the few elders seated downstairs.
With a smile, Deborah said, “No wonder Raquel left early that day. She’s so easily embarrassed.”
Upon hearing these words, the rest of them fell into silence. Although the injustice done to Raquel had been rectified, the Doyle family had not stepped forward to clarify matters. This matter was far from over.
George cleared his throat and pulled out his phone. “I’ll give Terry a call.” He and Terry had been friends for decades, and he didn’t want to ruin their relationship over the younger generation’s matters. After calling him for an explanation, the matter would be considered settled. However, it’s unfortunate for Raquel.
Once the call was connected, Terry’s voice could be heard from the other end. “George? I’ve heard all about the video. I’ve given that rebellious child a good scolding. I’ll be at your place shortly. Just hang tight for a moment.” No sooner had he finished speaking than the call ended.
George was momentarily taken aback, then he heard the security guard’s report. “Mr. Quixall, Mr. Doyle has arrived. He wishes to see you!”
George quickly got up and went to the door to greet his guest. “Terry, why did you come here personally? This issue isn’t that big. We could have just discussed it over the phone. Oh my…”
Terry shook his head, expressing regretfully, “My son made a big mistake. How could I not come? Even though you’ve known him all his life, he must be punished for his wrongdoings. If we don’t give him a hard lesson, he might think he’s invincible.”
“Bastard! What are you dawdling over there for? Hurry up and apologize to Mr. Quixall!”
Joseph sauntered over, each step feeling like a torment to himself. He then immediately dropped to his knees.
“Mr. Quixall, I’m truly sorry. It’s all my fault for spouting nonsense in public and tarnishing both Raquel’s and the Quixall family’s reputation. Dad has already punished me. If you still feel unsatisfied, you’re welcome to whip me a few more times until you’re content.”
His back was entirely covered in lash marks, with a few streaks of blood on his face. Clearly, before arriving here, he had been severely whipped by his father, hence the multitude of injuries all over his body.
Quickly, George helped Joseph up. “Oh my… Don’t be so quick to kneel before me. What’s our relationship, after all? As long as you’re willing to admit your mistake, that’s all that matters. Leave the rest to us to settle.”
Joseph lowered his head, remaining silent. After he left the hospital, he received a call from his father. The latter berated him over the phone, demanding that he return immediately. Otherwise, Terry would freeze all of his bank cards.
Left with no other choice, he reluctantly drove home, bracing himself for the inevitable punishment. Originally, he had intended to speak the truth. However, without a word, his father had taken out a whip and lashed it across his back, insisting that he was in the wrong. Even though he felt wronged, he accepted the situation for Raquel’s reputation.
