Chapter 222: Deserves to Die

One comment read: “Damn, who is this girl? How dare she scare Jesse with a cat?”

Another comment read: “That damn cat deserves to die just like her. I wish a truck would run over both of them a hundred times. Even their corpses should be dragged out and whipped!”

One netizen commented: “Doesn’t she know Jesse hasn’t fully recovered from his heart condition? Look at the end of the video. He’s so scared! What a bitch!”

A fan commented: “I heard before that Jesse wanted to organize a private fan meeting, and I was so excited. But then some nobody snatched the spot and ended up terrifying him! Stupid woman, if you can’t handle the opportunity, just give it up! Instead, you had to bring that f***ing cat to scare him. I hope your whole family dies!”

Every comment dripped with venom. Casey felt like a bucket of ice water had been dumped over her head. The excitement she’d felt before the meeting had completely vanished, replaced by bitter despair.

She had only recently become a fan of Jesse, but she never thought she was any different from the others. To her, being a fan just meant supporting her idol wholeheartedly. That was all.

However… things weren’t as simple as she had imagined. Every interaction with other fans required extreme caution. Even the slightest blunt remark would lead to a flood of hateful DMs. Fans backstabbed each other, all trying to claw their way up while pushing others down, desperate to monopolize their idol’s attention. It was nothing like the warm, supportive community she had imagined.

Thinking back to how, just days ago, she had stood up for Jesse—even throwing eggs at his brother outside the hospital—she felt utterly ridiculous. What was the point of defending him so fiercely?

In the end, she was left with nothing but the scorn of thousands. Casey found a cardboard box and carefully placed the kitten inside. Then, she wrote three words on top: “Please adopt me.” The flower vendor outside the karaoke had already left when she came out, so this was her only option.

The kitten, completely unaware of what was happening, blinked its clear, innocent eyes as it took in the unfamiliar surroundings. The box made a soft scraping sound as it touched the ground.

“I’m sorry, I can’t take care of you anymore. You’ll have to fend for yourself.”

Chapter 222: Deserves to Die

The moment the kitten realized she was leaving, it grew frantic. Its tiny legs scrambled until it finally managed to stand up inside the box.

Meow!

Casey’s heart twisted, and for a second, she nearly turned back to scoop it up again. But she resisted, never looking back.

After she left, a young man picked up the kitten and walked off in the opposite direction. Somehow sensing it, Casey glanced back toward where she had abandoned the cat. To her disappointment, she saw nothing. She had walked too far. The kitten and the box were long gone, vanishing from sight like a shooting star she could chase but never reach.

Caleb walked down the street with the kitten in his arms, heading back to his rental apartment. But as he walked, he realized something was off. Someone was tailing him.

Keeping his expression neutral, he casually turned into a dead-end alley, pretending not to notice. The moment he stepped inside, something heavy swung toward the back of his head. Eyes sharpening, he dodged to the side, still cradling the kitten.

“Well, well, pretty alert, aren’t you? Think eight of us can take you down?”

A tall man stood at the entrance of the alley, his smile sinister.
