Chapter 231: A Waste of Time

Manny looked surprised. “Ms. Quixall, are you really not going to reconsider? If you have any other conditions, Mr. Xiques can fulfill them all.”

Yelena shook her head. “It has nothing to do with all of that. I just can’t bear to leave this home.”

It was only at that moment that George’s gaze finally softened. “That’s more like it.” Even if the Xiques family was incredibly powerful and renowned, they certainly had no right to take away his daughter.

He had taken care of Yelena for twenty-five years. Throughout this quarter of a century, his care and concern for her never wavered. Whether it was food or necessities, he always provided her with the best. Not once did he ever treat her harshly. If Yelena really just left like that, it would only prove her ingratitude, revealing her to be nothing more than a self-serving ingrate.

Jesse echoed, “Our family really cherishes Yelena. Mr. Ferlito, please stop pressuring her. She truly doesn’t want to go.”

Manny paused before saying, “I understand. But if you change your mind, Ms. Quixall, and wish to return to the Xiques family, you’re always welcome to seek me out.” He wrote down his contact information for Yelena, then prepared to leave.

“Mr. Ferlito, I’ll see you out,” Jesse said with a smile. Manny didn’t object, allowing Jesse to walk him to the front door.

Noticing that there was no one around, Jesse pulled out a small paper bag. “Mr. Ferlito, you must be mistaken. Didn’t Mr. Xiques say that he lost a boy? But my sister is a woman, the complete opposite of what he claimed. Could you kindly take this and run another DNA test, please? It contains my hair. I can wait for you until the results come out.”

Manny glanced at the small paper bag. “Mr. Jesse, I don’t think this is necessary, is it? Since the person Mr. Xiques has been looking for has already been found, re-doing the DNA test will just be a waste of time.”

Jesse begged, “Mr. Ferlito, please. My parents cherish my sister deeply, and I can’t bear to see her leave. She has spent twenty-five years with the Quixall family while I only returned a few years ago. Their bond with me isn’t as strong. If it were possible, I would gladly take her place in the Xiques family. All I want is to spare my sister from the heartbreak of separation!”

Manny’s expression darkened. He sounds as if the Xiques family is some sort of repulsive entity that people can’t bear to be around. I’ve already offered such generous terms, yet the Quixalls still aren’t satisfied. What on earth is he talking about now?

The Xiques residence isn’t some kind of marketplace, where people can just come and go as they please.

A sudden wave of disgust washed over Manny as he replied, “Mr. Jesse, there’s no need for you to ramble on here. If your family has no intention of coming, then so be it. Why beg me in secret?”

Overwhelmed, Jesse stammered, “Mr. Ferlito, that’s not what I meant. I was just—”

Without paying any heed, Manny turned and walked away. Jesse called out to him for quite a while, but he never turned around. In a fit of anger, he tossed the small paper bag onto the ground. “Ugh, you bring bad luck! Nothing good ever happened with Caleb involved!”

As he stepped through the front door, a figure quietly emerged. It was none other than Manny. He picked up the small paper bag that Jesse had carelessly tossed on the ground and tucked it into his pocket before he left.

After pondering in his room for quite some time, Jesse realized that he had been too impulsive earlier. He returned to the place where he had bid farewell to Manny, intending to retrieve the items he had left behind. However, the place was completely barren, with nothing visible except a few scattered items.
