Chapter 234: What Have You Done

After the car accident, Caleb would occasionally experience bouts of dizziness. According to the doctor, these episodes were lingering aftereffects of the incident. How ridiculous. The victim suffered immensely before finally regaining consciousness, while the perpetrator remains free, enjoying a life of ease. Even more absurd is the perpetrator’s belief that everything would be fine after he struck me. Little does he know, the true mastermind behind all of this is his own daughter, and to this day, he remains completely oblivious.

Caleb’s heart burned with relentless resentment, and his gaze was icy and unforgiving. A tremor of unease passed through Deborah. “Was it… from the car accident? I’m truly sorry. I wasn’t there for you at that time.”

“You weren’t there? That’s because you were with the culprit!”

Fear gripped Deborah as she stepped back twice. “Caleb, what do you mean? Is this truly how you see me?”

A deep sense of injustice seemed to wash over her as she continued, “When you were six, you scraped your knee by accident, and I couldn’t stop worrying about how painful it must have been for you to walk. I stayed up all night to care for you and stuck by your side for an entire month. People used to say I spoiled you too much, but I never saw it that way! You’re my son. Why wouldn’t I dote on you? Even if others wished for the same treatment, I wouldn’t have agreed! But this time, your injury was far worse than before. I was so anxious about you that I spent my days in a daze, nearly tumbling down the stairs multiple times. After everything that’s happened, do you still hold me responsible?”

Caleb remained unmoved.

“Perhaps your affection for me was genuine in the past, but now, all I hear from you are lies. I can’t trust you anymore.”

Stunned, Deborah was about to speak when Caleb abruptly turned and retreated to his bedroom. With a sharp bang, the door slammed shut, and in that instant, it felt as if something had irreversibly broken. Deborah realized that her bond with Caleb had changed forever. It could never return to what it once was. Perhaps from the moment he walked free from prison, their bond had been completely cut, leaving no trace of the past, not even a lingering memory.

After finishing his instant pasta, Caleb stepped out of his room, only to find the floor completely covered in water. Each step he took was accompanied by a splashing sound. Everywhere else was fine. Only the bathroom door remained open. He dashed into the bathroom immediately, finding Deborah crouched there, fiddling with the drain cover as if she were trying to fix the drain.

“Mrs. Quixall, what have you done? Why is the living room flooded?”

With measured anger, Caleb said, “Step aside. Let me fix it.”

Deborah seemed somewhat hesitant.

“Caleb, maybe we should call a repairman. Neither of us know how to fix this. We might end up making it worse.”

Caleb remained silent, simply focusing on his work with his head bowed. Deborah dared not speak, fearing she might disturb him.

After a while, Caleb gathered a large handful of hair with a hook and tossed them all into the trash bin.

“Mrs. Quixall, this is your hair, isn’t it?”

With an awkward chuckle, Deborah admitted, “It is. I’ve been experiencing quite a bit of hair loss recently…”

Without uttering a word, Caleb walked straight out of the bathroom. After a brief hesitation, Deborah finally chose to follow.

“Caleb, I didn’t do it on purpose. I just felt dirty and needed to take a bath. Also… I’m hungry. I haven’t had a bite to eat since I left. Could you possibly find something for me to eat?”
