Chapter 259: You Were One of Them Too
With a somewhat teasing smile, Caleb said, “Ms. Rose, don’t you think it’s a bit late to be asking that now? Once, you were one of them. In fact, you were even more ruthless. You barged into my hospital room, leading the others in a chorus of mockery directed at me. As the one who caused harm, what right do you have to ask for my opinion here?”
His words were piercingly sharp. All Casey felt was as if multiple knives had been thrust into her heart. Each strike drew blood, and the pain was almost unbearable. She genuinely hadn’t done it on purpose. In the past, she had been utterly captivated by the persona that Jesse presented, which led her to do such foolish things in a moment of crazed fanaticism. But now, she had realized her mistake.
Online bullies only needed to tap out a few words on their keyboards to leave their victims in a situation where nothing they said could clear their name. Only when the hilt of the sword slipped from her grasp and the blade spun around, pointing toward herself, did she truly understand just how astray she had gone.
Previously, she had falsely claimed online that Caleb was an absolute brute, further intensifying the internet community’s disdain for him. Initially, netizens were already upset with Caleb due to the media’s false rumors. Coupled with her behind-the-scenes instigations, this resulted in Caleb failing to receive the support of the netizens and being unanimously deemed the arsonist.
The color drained from Casey’s face in an instant, her lips nearly losing all their color as well. “I… I was just a bit worried about you because I’m also now a victim of cyberbullying. I know exactly how it feels.”
Caleb let out a scoff. “So that’s why. I was wondering why you would care about me.” He turned and ascended the stairs, his figure quickly disappearing around the staircase corner, leaving behind only the crisp sound of his footsteps.
Casey hung her head in disappointment. The fluttering feeling she had experienced just moments ago was fleeting, and now, not a trace of it remained. The look in Seiren’s eyes changed. “Ms. Rose, I had suspected that you had done something wrong to Mr. Caleb before. Unexpectedly, you even once cyberbullied him! From now on, you are not allowed to get close to him!”
This is seriously infuriating! Mr. Caleb finally managed to leave the Quixall family and no longer needs to endure hardship. Yet now, it turns out this woman had been spreading rumors online; she even dared to enter Mr. Caleb’s sickroom, joining others in mocking him! This is simply unforgivable!
Seiren, her face flushed with anger, stood up and left the dinner table.
Breaking the silence, she realized she had already been punished. Before the truth was revealed, Caleb had harshly whipped her ten times. Even now, her wounds throbbed with pain. Yet, no one cared about her injuries. Each of them only cared about siding with Caleb. What had she done wrong? Betrayed by her boyfriend, she was then brought to the Yardley residence, where she endured torment. Now, she was living with Chelsea, yet she still had to live in fear and constantly be on guard. When would these days finally come to an end?
She hastily wiped away her tears and retreated to her own room. Meanwhile, Chelsea was on the phone with George. George awkwardly said, “Ms. Yardley, I sincerely apologize for my daughter upsetting you. As soon as I found out, I immediately brought her back and taught her a harsh lesson. Even when her face began to swell, I didn’t stop. In the end, I had slapped her to the point of being unrecognizable!”
Chelsea said nonchalantly, “What does that have to do with me? What’s done is done. Even if you were to kill her, it wouldn’t change my mind.”
