Chapter 124: Reconciliation

Beata's words were full of what she believed were persuasive arguments, but they wouldn't change my mind. However, I calmly shook my head. "I've made up my mind."

Before Beata could continue, she interrupted, "You're really quite stubborn."

She sighed deeply. "Since Brown Group can't cooperate with Cornell Group, would you be willing to partner with us individually? No investment required, but still plenty of returns."

I turned to look at her, signaling her to continue.

"I understand you're planning to develop the Lunaglo brand in Caldera. We could collaborate, and Cornell Group could also invest in your studio."

Her cloud-like eyes gradually sharpened with shrewdness. It seemed I had underestimated her. In my past life, she maintained a low profile until her death, leading me to believe she was a gentle woman burdened by hardship. But now, I realized a woman who could stand by Quinton couldn't possibly be ordinary.

Seeing that I didn't respond, Beata continued, "We'd invest a million dollars into your studio. All you need to do is announce that Cornell Group is investing in Lunaglo and becoming your first partner. In return, we can—"

The Cornells certainly had a clever plan. On the surface, I only had to accept the investment and issue a statement, but in reality, they were using Lunaglo's reputation to attract even more investors. Their company would only invest a million dollars, leveraging our name to attract larger investments while simultaneously revitalizing Cornell Group. Correct?

"Unfortunately, all those small companies that get trapped in this deal will end up being nothing more than fuel for Cornell Group's growth."

With that, I looked at Beata, my eyes cold. She was clearly trying to use Lunaglo as a scapegoat. Once everything settled, Cornell Group would strengthen themselves by acquiring smaller companies and then use public opinion to undermine Lunaglo. Lunaglo would be branded as a company that sacrificed morals for profit and would never recover from that reputation.

I needed to protect Brown Group, and Lunaglo was my life's work. I wasn't about to take any risks.

I looked at Beata with indifference. "Perhaps you should look for another way."

Seeing that I had exposed her plan, Beata's expression darkened. She stared at me silently for a long while. After a while, she scoffed and turned to leave. Jeremiah, who had been chatting with Elsa, immediately noticed the change in Beata's expression. He stormed over, seething with anger. He grabbed my wrist and harshly questioned, "What did you say to my mother?"

I shook off his grip and gently massaged my wrist. "Why don't you ask her yourself? Watch out; Elsa might get jealous."

I raised my chin and pointed disdainfully toward Elsa. Jeremiah, facing away from Elsa, didn't see the venomous look on her face; her gaze was sharp enough to cut.

Upon hearing my words, Jeremiah turned around. Elsa quickly erased the venomous expression, replacing it with a pitiful look. She transformed into someone fragile and in need of protection.

"So what? You're my wife. Am I breaking the law by holding your hand?" Jeremiah sneered, taking a step closer and grabbing my wrist again.

I watched Elsa's face twist with fury as she clenched her sleeve tightly. Then, she suddenly let go and walked toward us. "Jane, have you and Jeremiah reconciled? That's great!" she exclaimed loudly, stepping in front of me and Jeremiah, blocking his gaze. She playfully tugged at his sleeve. "Jeremiah, you'd better cherish Jane now. Don't make her suffer again."
