Chapter 130: The Plaintiff and the Defendant

Levi said, "Jane, wearing that jacket is ruining your style."

Just as Levi reached for the jacket, Eric swiftly stopped him. "It's freezing outside. Do you want her to catch a cold?"

Bale bent down, adjusting the jacket, and added sarcastically, "Some people are truly malicious. Jane took in a homeless guy, and he repays her kindness by letting her freeze."

Levi was speechless. He glared angrily at Eric before turning to me, shaking his head furiously. "Jane, that's not true! He's slandering me! This is all a lie!"

Eric remained calm. "Isn't that the truth? You clearly didn't bring a jacket, but you wouldn't let me give you mine. If that's not cruel, then what is?"

Levi looked at his empty hands and the meager clothing he wore, finally falling silent.

I couldn't help but smile. I thought their bickering would exhaust me, but Eric had won effortlessly.

Until we arrived home, an oddly peaceful atmosphere settled between them. Their only common concern seemed to be keeping the other away from me.

As soon as I got home, I received a message from Jeremiah. "Today was an accident. I'll make it up to you tomorrow."

I responded with a question mark, then typed, "Jeremiah, maybe you should get your brain checked. It's only been a few hours, and you've already forgotten what I said. From now on, if we're having dinner together, it will be at a business gathering. Otherwise, I have no time for you."

Soon, another message from Jeremiah appeared: "Is this really how you're going to be? I swear, I..."

Looking at the words on the screen, I couldn't help but smile bitterly. The rest of the message read, "...and are innocent. What will it take for you to believe me?"

Even after everything, he still thought I was jealous. With someone as clueless as him, the Cornell family's downfall was inevitable.

I ignored his messages, turned off my phone, and went to bed early.

The next morning, downstairs, I saw Jeremiah holding a bouquet of red roses. He'd made an effort with his appearance.

Although I anticipated his continued pestering, seeing it in person hit me harder than expected. I stepped back and accidentally bumped into someone.

Turning around, I found Eric's smiling face.

"Good morning," Eric said. His voice calmed my restless heart, and I instinctively nodded.

"Where's Levi?" He raised an eyebrow, surprised by Levi's absence.

"He stayed up late last night working on some designs, so I let him rest this morning."

Eric seemed in a good mood, seeing Levi was absent.

Just as he was about to speak, Jeremiah's angry voice rang out, growing louder as he approached. "What do you think you're doing? Stay away from my wife!"

Though loud, Jeremiah didn't seem to dare confront Eric directly.

Seeing Jeremiah, Eric raised an eyebrow and positioned himself in front of me, shielding me from view.

Jeremiah, frustrated, shouted, "Do you even realize we're still married? Are you really planning to be the other man, Mr. Flint?"

Eric smiled. "No, I think you've misunderstood. You and Jane are in the middle of divorce proceedings."

He continued, "Right now, you're nothing more than plaintiff and defendant. If you keep bothering Jane, we won't hesitate to seek a restraining order. Your personal freedom won't be guaranteed."

Jeremiah's expression darkened instantly.

Fortunately, after Eric's words, Jeremiah seemed to lose his nerve. "Jane, you'd better watch out!" he warned desperately before we walked away.
