Chapter 18 Forced to Make Up With Me  My parents had advised me that regardless of how much I loved Jeremiah, I should never lose  myself.  But my world had revolved entirely around Jeremiah back then. I didn’t accept their words and even fought with them about it. Looking back now, I realized how foolish I had been and how  much I owed them an apology.  With a smile, I firmly declared, “From now on, I’ll live for myself!”  “Now that’s my daughter!”  After chatting for a bit, my attention returned to the file in my hands. It detailed the joint project with Cornell Group which was currently in a critical phase. If things proceeded as planned,  Cornell Group would make a huge profit in just a month.  But they were going to lose revenue with my intervention, which they obviously couldn’t accept. Over the past few days, they’d been sending their people for negotiations to try and save the  project, but all their efforts were turned down.  I heard that Dad even yelled at the representative from Cornell Group and gave Jeremiah a  thorough scolding before kicking him out of the company. Though I hadn’t gotten to see it in  person, just the thought of it felt satisfying.  When I returned to my villa the next morning, I saw a man leaning against a car as soon as I  arrived.  When Jeremiah looked up and saw me, he strode forward. He frowned with worry and asked, ”  Where have you been? Do you know how worried I’ve been for not being able to reach you these  past two days?”  I scoffed. “Worried about me? Or are you worried Cornell Group’s project might fall through and  cost you money?”  My words hit a nerve, and a flicker of unease crossed Jeremiah’s face. He forced out a dry chuckle.  “What nonsense are you talking about? You’ve been messing around for a few days now. Aren’t you  tired? Pack your things and come home with me. Married couples shouldn’t live apart.”  Jeremiah wasn’t particularly good at comforting others, especially me. He had always had the  upper hand in our relationship. Apologizing and saying sweet words came with traces of  reluctance.  I scanned him from head to toe and sneered, “What’s wrong? Did you get scolded by your dad? Did  he force you here to make up with me? You’re pretty shameless, aren’t you? You were spreading  rumors about me and Eric on the internet just a few days back, weren’t you?”  Chap 18 Forced to Make Up With Me  The Cornells had always prioritized profit. Jeremiah must’ve received a terrible scolding from his father, Marcos, after losing such a lucrative project, which was probably why Jeremiah came running to say all these hollow words.  Jeremiah’s expression shifted, and his clenched fists trembled at his side. He wanted to throw a  fit but forcibly held it back.  After taking a deep breath, he said, “I can explain that. It was my mistake, and I’m here to  apologize. Come home with me, and let’s just live life as before. Forget about the divorce, alright?  It’s such an unpleasant topic.”  Jeremiah reached out to hold my hand, but I stepped back to avoid him. His hand froze in mid–air,  and he stared at me in disbelief.  I smiled mockingly and declared, “No, I’m determined to get a divorce!”  As I walked past him, a thought crossed my mind. I paused and turned to look at him to add one  final remark, “Jeremiah, spare yourself the false niceties. Your act is utterly disgusting.”  Ignoring the grave look on his face, I opened the door and stepped in. Then, I closed it behind me  and left him outside.  Not long after Jeremiah’s visit in the morning, Elsa came knocking on my door.  She sat on the couch and cautiously probed, “Jane, I heard Jeremiah came to you. Won’t you get  back together with him?”  Leaning back against the couch, I tilted my head and looked at her with a faint smile. “And what  good would it do you if we reconcile?”  {  Chapter 19 Fearing That I Won’t Drink the Juice
