Chapter 24 Fatal  “Oh, you’re finally willing to come back, huh?” Jack’s voice dripped with sarcasm once he saw me. “I thought you’d spend more time cuddling with Eric.”  “Is that how you talk to your sister?” Dad shot him a stern glare, and Jack was forced to restrain himself slightly.  Still, he retorted somewhat begrudgingly, “Dad, she’s acting bold because you and Mom spoil her so much. She meets up with Eric late at night. I don’t care if she chooses to degrade herself like that, but what about the fact that she drugged Elsa? That’s evil. Are we going to let that slide too?”  Jack got more agitated as he spoke. He shot to his feet and snapped, “They’re both your daughters. Are you going to wait until someone loses their life to realize how serious this is?”  Mom pulled Jack back into his seat and urged him to calm down. Then, she exchanged a heavy look with Dad. They sighed collectively.  That was when it hit me; it seemed they trusted his words.  Elsa had caused her fair share of chaos before my rebirth. Every bit of blame would conveniently fall on me.  She could cunningly make her acts seem flawless. It did seem I had motives against her as I had fought with her in front of the family, expressing my dissatisfaction over her closeness with Jeremiah.  Though my parents doted on me, they started falling for the mounting evidence over time.  Mom got up and held my hand. She said in a concerned tone, “I know you’ve got a fiery temper, Jae, but you shouldn’t have gone this far regardless of what Elsa might’ve done. Elsa needed to have her stomach pumped. She’s very weak right now, so let’s all visit her at the hospital and clear everything up.”  Dad nodded in agreement. “Yes. Apologize to her, and we’ll make it up to her in other ways. Then, this matter can be put to rest.”  Frowning, I asked, “Mom, Dad, are you saying I did this?”  Jack glanced at me coldly and sneered, “Regardless, she fell ill after being at your place. Don’t you think the least you could do is apologize? If it weren’t for Mom and Dad, you’d be in a holding cell at the police station by now.”  I froze and noticed the flash of unease on Mom’s and Dad’s faces. Then, it dawned on me. My expression darkened as I stared hard at Jack. “You wanted to call the police?”  Jack met my gaze and snapped back, “You’ve hurt Elsa again and again! Even if we’re family, her patience has its limits. How else can I teach you a lesson if I don’t report you to the police?”  Chap 24 Lafal  His words sent a chill through me. I hadn’t expected Jack to go this far for Elsa. Even without  evidence and just by relying solely on Elsa’s claims, he was ready to send me to the police  Mom and Dad must’ve worked hard to smooth things over. I would have no choice but to visit the  hospital for their sake.  When we arrived, Elsa was awake. Jeremiah was by her side, attentively tending to her every need. He’d bring her water and wipe her mouth  My parents‘ expressions visibly soured at the sight,  When Jeremiah noticed us enter, he toned down his attentiveness slightly After greeting my parents, he turned to me with a cold voice. “Now that you’ve seen Elsa in such a state, are you finally satisfied?”  Jack’s face filled with pain as he urged me to apologize.  I couldn’t hold back a cold laugh. “Why should I apologize? She brought all of this on herself Didn’t she have her stomach pumped? Did the doctors tell you the real reason she’s sick?”
