Chapter 31
Jack’s question stunned me. I blinked, staring at him in disbelief. I never thought he’d side with Elsa, even with such concrete evidence. He actually believed such a ridiculous excuse! I knew I had never wronged Jack. When did I become such a wicked person in his heart? He was becoming a stranger. He was just hopelessly dumb!
“Jack, our cooperation stops here. Working with an idiot like you insults my intelligence,” Eric said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. He’d been silent, but then spoke. “If you want to continue in the corporate world, get your head checked!”
Jack’s expression darkened. Elsa immediately defended him. “Mr. Flint, did my brother do something wrong by believing me? You have a sharp tongue, but you can’t insult him like that!” Eric glared at her. “You caused this mess, yet you’re pretending to be the good guy?” he quipped. Elsa was speechless.
Jack was about to speak when Elsa held him back. “Jack, please don’t offend Mr. Flint because of me. It’s not worth it,” she said considerately. She composed herself and looked at me. “Jane, you don’t look so good. Let me take you to the hospital,” Elsa said with concern.
I didn’t look good because these idiots were getting on my nerves! I rolled my eyes. “I’m not as weak as you. I don’t need to go to the hospital just because I had a little splash in the water.” “But…” Elsa hesitated. “I’m worried about your baby. Why don’t we just take a quick trip to the hospital?”
The air froze. Jack’s eyes widened. “You’re pregnant?”
My brow twitched. Foreboding washed over me. Elsa continued, “I know you don’t want Jeremiah to know, but your health and baby are more important. Even if he knows, he won’t blame you.”
Her words made me furrow my brows. Why did she make it sound so weird? It sounded like the baby didn’t belong to Jeremiah. I’d just realized that when Jeremiah’s voice rang out. “What? You’re pregnant?”
He stepped in front of me. He glanced at Eric, his expression grim. “Tell me, whose baby is it?” he asked sharply.
Seeing Jeremiah, I understood Elsa’s plan. She wanted him to think I was divorcing him because I was pregnant with someone else’s baby. I’d underestimated her scheming nature.
When Jeremiah saw I wasn’t answering, he grabbed my wrist. “Tell me! Is it Eric’s baby?”
I grimaced in pain. “Jeremiah, let go of me! Stop acting crazy!”
He held me tightly. Eric helped pry Jeremiah’s fingers off, pulling me into his arms. He stared coldly at Jeremiah. “If you dare touch her again, I’ll break your fingers!”
Jeremiah stared at me, then at Eric. He laughed. “I see! You two are really together! I underestimated your progress. You even have a baby together now?”
