Chapter 41: Are You Going to Hit Me?

As Jack and our parents rushed forward to comfort Elsa, I leaned against the wall, staring at that damp patch on the blanket, feeling a bit suspicious. Did she really cry that much in such a short time? Or did she just pour water on it? No normal person could cry so much without practically blinding themselves.

Jack carefully touched Elsa’s shoulder, and she flinched like a startled rabbit, her body trembling as she shook her head in fear. “It wasn’t me, it wasn’t me. I didn’t mean to…”

Seeing her like that broke Jack’s heart. He gently wrapped her in his arms and said softly, “Elsa, it’s me. Don’t be scared. Your brother is here, and I’ll always be with you.”

Hearing Jack’s voice, Elsa’s eyes slowly came into focus. She clung to him and burst into tears, sobbing as she said, “I didn’t mean to! I did see Jane with a pregnancy test kit that day. I’m sorry. It’s all my fault.”

Dad and Mom stood nearby, and whatever reprimanding words they had planned seemed to die in their throats when they saw her in this state.

Mom sighed and gently ruffled Elsa’s hair. “It’s good that you’ve realized your mistake. Just don’t do it again. Jae gets angry quickly, but it blows over just as fast. She won’t hold it against you.”

Mom turned to me and gave me a look, signaling for me to say something. But I just stayed where I was, arms crossed, leaning against the wall and still staring at Elsa. There was no way I’d forgive her that easily—not even for my parents’ sake.

In my last life, wasn’t Elsa able to climb her way to becoming a chief designer despite immense public scrutiny? With the kind of scheming and determination she had, how could a few hateful comments make her crumble like this? I wanted to see just how long she could keep up this act.

Jack was worried about Elsa’s condition and called for the family doctor. As he did, he accidentally met my gaze. I wasn’t sure if it was my casual attitude that got under his skin, but suddenly, he exploded at me. “Are you happy now? Is this what you wanted to see?”

It took me a second to react, and then I couldn’t help but laugh. “What are you implying? Are you saying I orchestrated all of this? That I deliberately set myself up to be attacked online?”

Jack’s expression darkened as he snapped, “The one being attacked now is Elsa! What does any of this have to do with you? And you knew from the start you weren’t pregnant. Why didn’t you just reveal the truth earlier? You wanted to push Elsa into the spotlight so she’d get attacked, didn’t you? You’re using such underhanded tactics against your own sister. You’re even worse than I ever imagined!”

His words made my anger flare instantly. I shot back without hesitation, “And those hours I spent getting dragged through the mud? Do they not count? Jack, are you blind? Everything Elsa said was her own doing. Did I hold a knife to her throat and force her to say those things? Let me remind you—I’m the victim here. Just because someone sheds a few tears doesn’t make them the most pitiful person in the room! And stop projecting your paranoid fantasies onto me. With a brain like yours, you should book an appointment with a psychiatrist!”

I spat it all out in one go, then took a deep breath. I glared at him as we squared off. Jack was so furious he couldn’t come up with a retort. His expression darkened, and his hands trembled.

I glanced at his hands and smirked coldly. Taking a step forward, I tilted my head and taunted, “What? Are you going to hit me?”
