Chapter 44 Splash Him

Enough was enough. I couldn’t take it anymore. I grabbed the wine glass and splashed the wine right on Jeremiah’s face.

He froze on the spot as the red liquid dripped down his features, ruining his expensive suit.

I stood up angrily. “What the hell is wrong with you? How many times do I have to say it? I want a divorce. I don’t want you anymore! Jeremiah, where did you get the confidence to think I can’t live without you? You’re the most pathetic man I’ve ever met!”

“Hurry up and sign the divorce papers! Stop wasting my time!”

Finally snapping out of his stupor, he wiped the wine off his face with a darkened expression. “I’ll say it one more time: we’re not getting a divorce!” “Fine! I’ve got plenty of ways to make it happen!” I tossed the glass onto the table and stormed out without looking back.

When I got home, my mood was still sour. Stepping out of the car with a cold expression, I spotted Eric casually watering the flowers in the yard, looking as relaxed as ever.

He noticed me too. He set down the watering can and walked over. “What happened? Did something go wrong?”

Suppressing my anger, I tried to stay calm. “Nothing much, Jeremiah’s just dragging his feet and refusing to agree to the divorce.”

Hearing this, Eric was silent for a moment before asking, “What’s your plan now?”

I looked him straight in the eye and said with determination, “I’m filing for a divorce.”

At this point, the marriage was beyond repair. Filing a lawsuit was the only way to end it for good.

Hearing my decision, Eric’s lips curled into a slight smile. “In that case, let me recommend a lawyer. Flint Group’s legal team has never lost a case.” Everyone knew how capable Flint Group’s lawyers were. With their help, this whole process would definitely go smoother.

Given how much I already owed him, one more favor wouldn’t make a difference. With that thought, the weight on my shoulders felt a little lighter. I nodded. “Alright. Thank you.”

Eric didn’t waste any time. By the next day, he showed up at my house with a lawyer to discuss the details of the case. The lawyer went over everything carefully, assuring me they’d handle the specifics and file the necessary paperwork with the court.

Their confidence was contagious, and I finally felt a sense of calm settling over me.

After seeing the lawyer off, Eric turned to me and asked, “What’s your plan after the divorce?”

“I’ll go back to work.” I had given up my career for this marriage. It was about time I reclaimed what I had lost.

Eric’s eyes darkened slightly before he said, “Would you be interested in working for me? I happen to need an assistant. If there’s anything you don’t know, I can teach you.”

I knew his offer was well-intentioned, but considering the rumors we were already caught up in, working together would only fuel more gossip. “No, I already have other plans.” I smiled faintly, looking a bit regretful. “It’s a shame we won’t get to work together.”

Eric chuckled. “What’s the matter? Are you afraid I’ll exploit you as your boss and suck you dry?”

Feigning surprise, I exclaimed, “How did you guess? Eric, you really are sharp-eyed!”

“Cut the teasing.”

After trading a few playful remarks, my mood lifted a bit.

Eric was someone with a strong sense of boundaries. He didn’t push the work issue further or pry into my plans. Instead, he simply said, “We’re friends. If you ever need help, just ask. Don’t hold back.”

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t touched.

Looking at him, I said sincerely, “Thank you.”

Eric’s eyes flickered with something I couldn’t quite place before he suddenly reached out and ruffled my hair. Then, standing up, he said casually, “Alright, I’m heading off.”
