Chapter 57 Too Much
Jeremiah’s eyes were bloodshot, his anger palpable. “Shut up!” He gritted his teeth and cursed, raising his hand in a swift motion. As his slap came down, I instinctively prepared to dodge, but before I could move, a tall figure appeared in front of me, blocking the blow. At that moment, I could almost hear the sound of bone cracking, followed by Jeremiah’s screams ringing in my ears. I peeked around Eric’s back and looked at Jeremiah, who was writhing in pain on the ground. I blinked. “Was that a bit too much?” Eric calmly rotated his wrist. His tone was as cold as winter snow. “With scum like him, you shouldn’t hold back.” Jeremiah glared at us angrily. “Eric, what does my issue with Jane have to do with you? Why are you interfering? If it weren’t for you, Jane would never even consider divorcing me!” Eric looked down at him with a condescending gaze, exuding an air of authority and dominance without a hint of anger. “Don’t try to pin everything on me. I won’t carry the blame. If you hadn’t gotten involved with Elsa, Jane would never have wanted a divorce. Instead of standing by your wife, you protect that bitch. No wonder things ended this way. Oh, by the way, I heard there are more plagiarism victims causing a scene at Cornell Group. Since you’re so concerned about Ms. Elsa, you should be rushing to clean up that mess.” Jeremiah’s expression changed instantly. He no longer argued with Eric as he scrambled to his feet, shooting us a vicious glare. “Wait for it! This isn’t over!” I smiled at him, completely unafraid. “If you’re any later, Elsa might have another episode of depression.” Jeremiah stormed off in a foul mood. After he left, I looked at Eric, curious. “Is Elsa really being targeted?” He calmly stuffed his hands in his pockets, a hint of amusement in his eyes. “I was just messing with him. He could’ve easily called and figured out I was lying, but he’s too stupid. The moment he heard Elsa’s name, he panicked.” I held my laughter for a few seconds but eventually couldn’t contain myself and burst out laughing, clutching my stomach. “You’re so wicked, but honestly, it feels so good.” Eric’s dark eyes stayed fixed on me as if he was deep in thought. I felt a little embarrassed under his gaze and finally stopped laughing. “I have to go check out the venue. Do you want to stay for breakfast?” Since he had helped me, I figured the least I could do was make breakfast for him to thank him. He didn’t refuse. After we had a relaxed and enjoyable breakfast, I contacted the venue owner from yesterday and called my lawyer. The lawyer had already submitted the lawsuit materials to the court. Soon, Jeremiah would receive his summons and the trial would be set. However, on the day of the trial, the lawyer and I waited outside the courthouse for half the day, but Jeremiah never showed up. I couldn’t help but feel frustrated. I called him, only to find that his phone was turned off. It was obvious he was doing this on purpose. If he kept stalling, the divorce would never happen. “Ms. Brown, what’s your plan now? If he keeps refusing the divorce, this lawsuit could drag on for years.” I sneered, “Even if it takes that long, I’ll still divorce him. If he doesn’t come to me, then I’ll find a way to make him come!” Spin to Claim Your Surprise Reward!
