Chapter 59 Looking Forward to That Day

I shouted at Jeremiah, “Get off me! Don’t touch me!”

The more I struggled, the tighter his grip around my wrists became, and his face kept getting closer. Just as he was about to kiss me, the overwhelming pressure suddenly disappeared.

I snapped back to reality and saw Eric—who had entered without me noticing—grabbing Jeremiah by the collar and throwing him to the ground.

Seemingly unsatisfied, Eric loosened his tie, rolled up his sleeves, and clenched his fist, visible veins pulsing. Then, he punched Jeremiah square in the face.

Jeremiah let out a muffled grunt and collapsed to the floor.

“Someone like you trying to touch Joe?” Eric yelled, his tone harsh and filled with disdain.

This was the first time I had seen him show such aggression. One punch after another landed. Within seconds, Jeremiah’s face was unrecognizable, his nose and eyes bruised beyond recognition. But even so, he still glared at Eric with fury.

“Jane is my wife! What’s wrong with me touching her? When did it become your place to defend her? Even if she’s with you now, you’re still just a sidepiece! She looks like she cares about you, but she’s been chasing me for years! Even if she’s with you, it’s just to get back at me. You’re nothing! One day, when she gets bored of you, she’ll just dump you, and I’ll still be her husband!”

Jeremiah’s words grew uglier and uglier, and I was shaking with anger. Before Eric could make another move, I charged forward and kicked him in the chest.

“I can’t believe you’re still so full of yourself! Let me tell you, I stopped loving you a long time ago! Just looking at you makes me sick! How dare you inflate your worth?”

I immediately pulled out my phone and called the police without hesitation.

“I didn’t want to go too far for the sake of both families, but now, it’s clear that if I keep letting you get away with things, you’ll only get worse!” Jeremiah froze in shock. “How dare you call the police?”

I laughed bitterly. “Why wouldn’t I dare? I don’t have anything left to lose. Since you want attention so badly, I don’t mind making sure the whole internet knows your name!”

Before he could react, Eric knocked him unconscious with a punch.

Not long after, the police arrived, reviewed the surveillance footage, and arrested Jeremiah for sexual harassment.

“Thank you so much today,” I said, turning to Eric, feeling a deep sense of gratitude. “If you hadn’t come in time, I don’t know what Jeremiah would have done.”

I was owing Eric more and more favors, and I wasn’t sure when I’d ever be able to repay him.

He walked closer to me, his gaze intense and mixed with emotions I couldn’t quite decipher. “As I said, I’ll always help you no matter what—including protecting you.”

His cold, dark eyes locked with mine, and my heart skipped a beat. Instinctively, I turned my head away.

“I’ve said it before. When the time comes, I’ll help you in return.”

He smiled at me and nodded. “I’m looking forward to that day.”

I smiled back, but then a thought crossed my mind. “Did you really steal Cornell Group’s key project?”

Eric didn’t confirm or deny it.

I remembered he had always been subtly and openly working against Jeremiah in my previous life.

Back then, I had just thought they were rivals, but now that I thought about it more carefully, there didn’t seem to be any deep hatred between them. Why did he dislike Jeremiah so much?

After hesitating for a few seconds, I asked the question that had been bothering me.

Eric cleared his throat, and a faint awkwardness appeared on his face.
