Chapter 61: The Cornells or the Browns
I said, “She came back so late. Could it be that she went to see her ex-brother-in-law? How interesting. She always calls me intimately, but behind everyone’s back, she’s with my ex-husband. Isn’t that a clear case of trying to be the mistress?”
Hearing this, Elsa froze, then her eyes reddened. She wiped away tears, looking aggrieved.
“Jane, even though you and Jeremiah are divorced, I should still check on him. If you two become too estranged, it’ll be awkward in the future! Also, I learned from him that he was angry because you’re with Mr. Flint, and Mr. Flint even beat him up. You posted that video online and twisted the facts. Jane, what you did was too much. Don’t you care about Jeremiah after he was beaten up so harshly?”
My parents only knew about Jeremiah bullying me, but not about Eric beating him up, so they looked at me with contusion.
I cleared my throat and calmly explained, “If Eric hadn’t stepped in, Jeremiah would’ve had his way with me. In other words, Eric is my savior.”
After saying that, I mocked Elsa.
“You’re obviously from the Brown family, so why are you so protective of Jeremiah? Do you really want to be his wife? If so, why don’t you move into the Cornell residence? Why stay here and be an eyesore?”
Elsa’s face paled. Instead of confronting me, she tearfully threw herself at my parents. “Dad, Mom, I only wanted to visit Jeremiah on Jane’s behalf, but she’s accusing me like this…”
My parents exchanged a glance and looked at me with helplessness.
“Jae, Elsa did it for your sake. Don’t be so angry with her.”
Even though my parents supported me when it mattered, they were still being led by Elsa and couldn’t see through her true intentions.
I crossed my arms, my gaze cold. “I can choose not to be angry with her, but she has to promise me no further contact with the Cornell family. If she does that, I’ll still consider her a sister.”
I said this to force her to choose between the Brown and Cornell families. If I could make my parents see where Elsa’s heart truly lay, that would be good.
Tears immediately filled Elsa’s eyes.
“Jane, Jeremiah loves you so much. Why did you divorce him for another man? The relationship between the Cornell and Brown families shouldn’t become so ugly.”
I raised an eyebrow. “You can’t make up your mind. Mom, Dad, you see it too, right? She’s obviously siding with the Cornell family. Jeremiah bullied me and even laid hands on me. Not only is she not standing by my side, but she’s siding with my ex-husband. Isn’t that selfish?”
Hearing my words, my parents looked at Elsa with doubt.
Before they could speak, Elsa nervously explained, “Jane, you’ve misunderstood! Of course, I’m on your side! I just think there’s a better way to solve this!”
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. She was really good at talking.
