Chapter 67 Shouldn’t Be So Close

It turned out Eric had already arranged for the important facilities to be set up exactly to my taste. After I gave my approval, I wouldn’t need to get anyone to furnish it. I never expected him to arrange everything for me.

“Do you like it?” He turned to look at me. I nodded gratefully. “I really do, Eric. Thank you so much. Without you, I could never have gotten this far.”

He stared at me silently for a few seconds, and just as he was about to say something, my phone suddenly rang.

It was a video call from Levi. I stepped away to a corner to answer it.

“Jane, I haven’t heard from you these past few days. Is the venue search not going well? If it’s not, I’ll go with you to check it out when I get back!”

Levi’s handsome face appeared on the phone screen.

Smiling, I said, “Don’t worry, I’ve just found a place.” I switched the camera and showed him the setup.

He couldn’t help but exclaim, “As expected of you, you’re amazing at getting things done! I’m completely relieved now!”

After chatting briefly with Levi, I hung up the call. When I returned to Eric’s side, he was staring at me with a deep gaze. “Who was that man?”

Apparently, he had seen Levi on the screen. And for some reason, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Eric looked a little like a jealous wife questioning her husband.

I couldn’t help but laugh. “He’s my junior in the same field. I’m partnering with him for this business venture.”

He didn’t seem relieved, and his brows furrowed even more. “Forgive me for being direct, but even if he’s your junior, you shouldn’t be so close with him.”

I had only exchanged a few words with Levi. Why was it considered “close”? Eric’s way of thinking was really strange.

I couldn’t help but silently complain, but since he had helped me so much, I still forced a perfect smile. “Thank you for your advice. I’ll remember your words and keep them in mind!”

His previously furrowed brows immediately relaxed, and he seemed quite pleased. “Since you’re so receptive to advice, I’ll treat you to a meal later.”

I silently rubbed my forehead. It felt like he was more than just my investor.

After returning home that evening, I received a call from my lawyer. The trial date was approaching, and we discussed the details.

“Ms. Brown, don’t worry. As long as the materials and evidence are sufficient, we’ll definitely win this lawsuit.”

I trusted the lawyer Eric arranged, but I was sure that Jeremiah would pull some dirty tricks. As expected, later that evening, I received an entertainment news update.

“Mr. Cornell and Ms. Elsa were seen secretly meeting late at night. They were very intimate, even kissing in the car.”

Netizens were abuzz with discussions:

“Isn’t Jeremiah with Jane? Why is he out with her sister? What’s going on between them?” “They do seem like a good match, but it’s a bit inappropriate…” “Rich people’s circles are really messy.”

Looking at the ambiguous photos of Jeremiah and Elsa, I felt no emotion at all, only a sense of irony. What Jeremiah was doing was clearly an attempt to provoke me, to make me shamelessly beg him. But I had long stopped loving him. These photos only further proved that he was a complete scumbag.

I chose to ignore it, but the next second, my phone rang again. This time, it was Elsa calling.
