Chapter 72: Look Forward to the Good News

The man was called Benson Lloyd, and he had a very close relationship with my dad. They had done quite a bit of business together in the past, but every single venture failed. I’d never had a good impression of him. He probably had some ulterior motive for wanting to invest now. “Dad, I appreciate Benson’s good intentions, but I’ll have to pass on the investment,” I refused outright.

However, before I could say anything else, Benson’s laughter came through the phone. “Jane, are you upset with me? How could you turn me down without even discussing it? How about this? Let’s meet tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at Shine Restaurant to talk about the investment details.” Before I could respond, the call ended abruptly. I furrowed my brows, feeling uneasy. I hadn’t expected Benson to be with my dad right now. Since he’d made the decision unilaterally, I might as well go tomorrow and see what he was after.

“I happen to be free tomorrow. I can go with you.” Just as I put my phone down, Eric raised his head and looked at me seriously, concerned about what might happen tomorrow. I smiled at him. “Don’t worry, I can handle things tomorrow. How can I let the CEO of Flint Group help me like this? I’m flattered.” Hearing the teasing in my voice, he didn’t smile. Instead, his expression grew even more serious as he nodded. “Whenever you need anything, if you want something, I’ll make it happen for you.”

For a moment, the air around us seemed to freeze. In the silence, I could hear my own heartbeat racing. I stared at him, trying to read the emotions in his eyes, but I couldn’t. It was as if he was trying to tell me something, but I had no idea what. All I could feel was the pounding of my heart, telling me just how nervous I was.

I didn’t know how long passed before I came to my senses. I awkwardly touched my nose. “I appreciate your kindness, Mr. Flint. Don’t worry, I’ll work hard and earn a good profit so that your investment in me isn’t wasted.” His serious expression relaxed a little. He stretched his shoulders, then rested one hand on his brow as he quietly watched me. “I look forward to your good news.”

I pressed my lips together, suddenly aware that my palms had broken out in a thin layer of sweat. He was so handsome, yet he used that face to look at me like this. How could I not be nervous?

After dinner, I saw him off. Just as I was about to wash up and rest for the night, I suddenly received a text: “No matter what happens tomorrow, call me immediately if you run into trouble.” I smiled and felt warm deep down. With Eric around, I never had to worry too much.

The next day at 10:00 a.m., I arrived at the private room at Shine Restaurant. When I entered, Benson had already ordered the food. Seeing me, he quickly stood up, smiling as he came to greet me. “Jane, it’s been so many years, and you’re even more beautiful now. I wanted your dad to come today too, but he had something come up last minute, so it’s just the two of us having this conversation.” I exchanged polite pleasantries with him. As we spoke, I could clearly feel his eyes wandering over me, making me feel an uncomfortable chill.
