Chapter 75 For Me Again

I felt a bit confused. “What’s going on?” Eric moved closer, gently covering my eyes with his hand as he pulled me out of the private room. Everything went dark for a moment, but soon, I could hear Benson’s screams. Then, Eric’s deep voice sounded in my ear, making me feel unexpectedly at ease. “If he’s done wrong, aside from facing legal consequences, he must also learn a harsh lesson. Besides, he touched you. I won’t let him leave here unscathed.” His words seemed to have a magical effect, stirring something deep within me. Everything he was doing was still for me. In my past life, I had grown used to Jeremiah’s coldness and cruelty, and I didn’t believe anyone would protect me unconditionally. But in this life, Eric was doing just that. Did he really have feelings for me, just like Natasha said? Benson’s screams lasted for several seconds before finally fading away. By the time Eric and I got into the car, I saw Benson being carried out by several people when I looked out the window. His body was covered in injuries. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction. This was his punishment. Afterward, Eric accompanied me to the police station to submit the evidence. By the time I finished giving my statement, it was already dark. As we walked out of the station, a cold wind blew, and I couldn’t help but shiver. The next second, a warm coat was draped over my shoulders. When I looked up, I met Eric’s concerned gaze. “Don’t catch a cold.” My heart warmed. “Sorry for causing you trouble today. You don’t mind, do you?” Eric’s lips curved into a faint smile. “I don’t mind. I’d actually prefer it if you gave me more trouble.” My ears involuntarily turned red. Just as I was about to say something, Dad’s call came in. “Jae, I heard about Ben. What exactly happened? Why is he suddenly locked up in the detention center?” I explained everything that had happened to Dad. When he finished listening, he angrily slammed his hand on the table. “He’s so despicable, daring to lay a hand on my daughter! I’ve considered him a friend all these years, and this is how he’s been treating you behind my back! He should pay an even worse price!” Listening to Dad’s righteous fury, I couldn’t help but smile. “Okay, Dad, it’s all over now. I’m fine, and you don’t have to worry about the investment matter. I’ll take care of it.” After I hung up, Eric’s voice suddenly broke the silence. “I happen to know a few investors who meet your requirements. Would you like me to give you their contact information?” I turned to look at him. Thinking about everything that had happened recently, I suddenly felt curious and couldn’t resist teasing him, “Did you just happen to come across these investors who match my requirements, or did you already find them for me?” He met my gaze before quickly looking away. “Of course, they just happen to match your requirements. I’ve been so busy lately. I wouldn’t have had the time to look for them in advance.” I deliberately stretched my tone. “Is that so? So, would you have found them for me in advance if you had the time?” For some reason, I found myself wanting to joke more with him at this moment. It felt like the only times I didn’t have to wear a mask and pretend to be someone else were when I was around him and my parents. It made life a little easier. He laughed at my words, and the sharpness in his features softened. “You can say whatever you want. Do you want me to arrange it for you?” I winked at him. “No need. I’ve already made arrangements.”
