Chapter 87: Jared Is Arrested
Eric glanced at Jared. “Do you have anything else to say for yourself, Mr. Ladley?”
Jared, already frightened by the video, lost all courage. He trembled and collapsed to his knees.
“The video is fake, Mr. Flint,” he said weakly. “I definitely didn’t steal Mr. Sinclair’s core technology! The technology I presented to my new company was personally designed and developed by me and has nothing to do with him!”
He was still making excuses.
I sneered. “If you really developed it on your own, why do you look so guilty? Actually, it doesn’t matter whether or not you admit to it now. As long as we hand the evidence over to the police, all your efforts will have been for nothing. Your confession will only reduce your sentence.”
Jared shuddered, the panic and fear in his eyes more apparent. He turned to Zachary.
With reddened eyes, he yelled, “I–I didn’t steal your technology on purpose, Zachary! I’m begging you, please just let me off this once! If the police arrest me, the rest of my life will be ruined. You know about my family. I have elderly parents and children to take care of, and my mother is still in the hospital. What are my mother and my wife going to do if I’m arrested?” Jared groveled, stubbornly clinging to Zachary’s trouser leg, pleading insistently for mercy.
Zachary stared silently. Although his expression wavered, he remained firm.
“Don’t worry. After you go to jail, I’ll help you take care of your family,” he told Jared. “You’ll have to pay the price for what you’ve done!”
Jared was stunned.
After calling the police, Jared was arrested. Even as he was taken away, he continued to yell and curse at us.
Zachary looked at Eric and me with embarrassment. “Sorry for causing you trouble by barging into the exchange meeting without an invitation, Ms. Brown and Mr. Flint. I’ll leave immediately!”
Zachary nodded before turning to leave. However, Eric spoke up.
“Ms. Brown thinks highly of your game development skills. I happen to know some investors interested in investing in that field. If you’re willing to stay, I can arrange an introduction.”
Zachary’s eyes widened. “Really? Are you really willing to introduce me to investors, Mr. Flint?”
Eric didn’t reply. He called for a man to guide Zachary to meet the investors.
Once Eric and I were alone, I looked at him with a complicated expression.
“You had everything planned out, didn’t you?” I asked. “You knew Zachary would cause a scene today, so you prepared the evidence beforehand?”
This was a Flint Group business exchange meeting; the attendees were all big names. How could there be game investors?
Without Eric’s advance planning, Zachary would never have had this opportunity.
Eric pursed his lips, as if afraid I’d be angry.
After a few seconds, he explained, “I already knew about you and Zachary, so I had my men investigate. I had the evidence on hand to be prepared for unforeseen circumstances. I didn’t know he’d cause a scene here. As for the game investors, they aren’t actually here. I simply had my men take Zachary to meet them. Whether or not he wins their favor depends on his own capabilities. But I must say, the person you favored certainly has backbone. He prioritized righteousness over personal feelings and even declared he would take care of Jared Ladley’s family. That proves he’s a man of honor.”
Embracing With Open Arms
I sighed. I opened my mouth to speak, but I had no idea what to say.
Eric had planned everything.
Logically, I should have felt moved, but I felt sullen. If Eric had to handle everything, what was left for me to do?
