Chapter 91: I Don’t Need His Forgiveness

Cornell Group’s share price plummeted because of Jeremiah’s incident, and with Eric targeting them, the company teetered on the edge of bankruptcy. If the company went bankrupt, Jeremiah would face dire consequences, so I didn’t need to intervene. Moreover, I was preoccupied with our domestic market launch and had no time for petty vendettas.

I had barely finished speaking when a news notification popped up on my phone: “The CEO of Flint Group and the heiress of Brown Group were spotted setting off fireworks late at night, and the two looked suspiciously close…”

I furrowed my brows and clicked. Someone had secretly photographed Eric and me from last night on the mountain, capturing the moment I hugged him. Perfect ammunition for troublemakers.

I’d hugged Eric because I was overcome with emotion. I regretted not controlling myself, knowing the trouble it would cause.

I took a deep breath and was about to call Eric when his message arrived: “I’ll deal with the online situation, so you don’t have to worry.”

I should have felt reassured, but instead, I felt ashamed. I’d caused this mess and was shifting the burden onto him.

I contacted Brown Group’s PR department and asked them to quash the rumors immediately.

I’d just sent the message when Levi walked over and asked, “Didn’t you hear what I said, Jane? What’s keeping you so busy? Why are you so distracted?”

I was about to put away my phone when it rang. Levi and I glanced at the screen; “Jeremiah” popped up. Levi’s eyes widened, his fists clenching. “Why is that lousy scumbag calling you? Is he trying to mess with you, Jane? Don’t worry! I’ll help you get back at him!”

Before I could respond, Levi answered and put the call on speaker. Jeremiah’s furious voice filled the room.

“You’ve gone too far, Jane! We haven’t finalized our divorce, and you’re already cozy with Eric Flint. Do you think I’ll let you get away with this? I’ve consulted my lawyer. I can make this divorce last forever. If you continue messing around with other men, I’ll make sure you never get out of this marriage.”

I’d overlooked this. Using the fact that Eric and I hugged would strengthen his position in the divorce. I’d made a grave error.

I was about to respond when Levi interjected, “It’s none of your business who Jane’s with. You’re a lousy scumbag—you don’t deserve Jane! I’m warning you, if you keep bothering her, I’ll break your legs!”

After a brief silence, Jeremiah roared, “You’re such a slut, Jane! You’re with Eric, yet you’re messing around with other men. You’ve probably lined up other partners before our divorce. I felt guilty about our marriage, but now I realize you don’t deserve my forgiveness at all!”

I scoffed. I never wanted his forgiveness. What made him think he was worthy of offering it?

I hung up on Jeremiah and blocked his number. I felt much better.
