Chapter 98 Under Surveillance

Before the slap could land, Levi reacted, raising his hand and gripping Jeremiah’s wrist. Jeremiah tried to pull away, but Levi’s strength was far greater. His expression turned grim. He softened his tone, saying, “I have something important to discuss. Tell him to leave so we can talk privately.”

Before I could speak, Levi interjected, “In your dreams! You were planning on hitting Jane with me here. Who knows what you’d do if I weren’t around?”

Jeremiah remained silent, his gaze hopeful. Yet I couldn’t meet his expectations, replying, “Let’s discuss it right here.” I assumed he wanted to talk about the divorce; I seriously doubted there was anything else.

Jeremiah said smugly, “I know you’re doing this to get back at me. I know I neglected you, Jane. If you promise to be good, cut them off, and leave Elsa alone, we can go back to the way things were. I promise to treat you even better.”

I furrowed my brows at his hypocritical remarks. I sneered, “The Cornell family is coming down hard on you, and you’re still taking Elsa’s side? You two must be the definition of true love.”

I met Jeremiah’s intense gaze. “I’ve said it before, and I’m saying it again—this divorce is a done deal. Your denial won’t change that. I have plenty of ways to ensure I win. You’ll soon realize it, Jeremiah.”

After that, I opened my door, not wanting to hear more nonsense. Levi had just entered when Jeremiah followed. Before he could fully step inside, Levi shoved him back out.

Jeremiah clenched his fists, ready to fight. He considered Eric untouchable, but he wasn’t worried about a junior with no reputation like Levi.

I made a casual remark that froze him. “Levi used to be the Calderlan city boxing champion. If you really want to fight him, inform Elsa to pick you up later. You don’t want to get beaten half to death with no one around.”

Jeremiah’s courage faltered. His gaze flitted between me and Levi. He was about to speak when Eric’s voice rang out.

“If you keep showing up to stir up trouble, I can call the police,” Eric said, stepping closer. He had a faint smile, but his voice was cold as he fixed his gaze on Jeremiah.

Jeremiah’s gaze flitted between Eric and Levi, settling on Eric. “Who would’ve thought someone as powerful as you would be a rebound? Jane’s already got herself a new man.”

He grinned smugly and left, satisfied with his provocation. I stole a glance at Eric; his expression had soured. Jeremiah’s presence hadn’t bothered me, but seeing Eric like this made me feel oddly guilty.

“You’re back so quickly?” I asked, stepping aside. I grinned. “You haven’t been spying on me, have you?”

He stopped, his eyes meeting mine. He leaned close, his breath warm on my face, whispering, “And what if I said I have?”

My mind went blank. Looking up, I found myself staring into his eyes.
