Listen to this chapter:

Although the two people found Dexter's request strange, they were tempted by the large sum of money he offered. After a moment's hesitation, they nodded hurriedly. "Sure. You can beat us. We don't mind."

Those who weren't chosen looked upset. They wondered, "Why didn't he choose me?"

With their consent, Dexter offered a polite smile. "In that case, please spare me."

Screams erupted. Scott silently pulled a palm-sized notebook from his pocket.

The notebook's cover read, "Scott's Notes." A pen was clipped to it. Scott wrote:

[August 3, 10:00 AM. Sunny. Mr. Johnson visited the beach. A group of rude foreigners verbally abused him for five minutes. Mr. Johnson calmly diffused the situation, resolving the problem skillfully and displaying a noble demeanor.

Mr. Johnson then proposed exercising and politely asked for training partners. Touched by his sincerity and courtesy, they readily agreed. Mr. Johnson began exercising. Everyone enjoyed being his training partners, cheering and even playfully rolling on the ground.

Mr. Johnson gained a healthy body, and everyone gained happiness. Mr. Johnson successfully navigated social interactions in a foreign country. His social skills are excellent!]

Scott pocketed the notebook and watched Dexter "exercise" calmly. Dexter soon stopped. The two people he'd beaten were on the ground, crying, their faces bruised and swollen.

Scott stepped forward and gave them the money. Overjoyed, they cried and laughed simultaneously.

Scott then produced a wet wipe and carefully cleaned Dexter's hands.

Dexter looked around for Evangeline. He saw her running toward him, pursued by a crowd and several barking dogs. Evangeline reached Dexter and hugged him, signaling to her pursuers that they were together.

"Dexter, deal with them," she said, then ran off, leaving Dexter to manage the situation.

Dexter felt a throbbing headache. Evangeline was constantly causing trouble and leaving him to clean up her mess. No wonder she'd claimed to support him even if he was against the world; she was forcing him into that position.

The crowd quickly caught up. Unable to reach Evangeline, they confronted Dexter, who was forced to resolve the situation with money again. By the time he finished, Evangeline had created another disturbance on the other side of the beach.

Worse, she'd snatched a bride from her wedding photoshoot, with the groom and photographer in hot pursuit.

Evangeline presented the bride to Dexter. "Dexter, I stole you a bride," she said, and ran off.

Dexter was speechless.

The panting groom and photographer arrived. The groom glared at Dexter. "What's your relationship with that crazy woman? This is outrageous! How could she take my bride?"

Before Dexter could respond, the bride exclaimed excitedly, "This is the first time anyone's carried me since I became an adult! I'm so happy. Can she carry me again?"

The groom was speechless and felt insulted. He couldn't even carry his 100-pound bride.

Before he could speak, his bride ran after Evangeline.

Everyone was speechless.

The furious groom addressed Dexter: "Your girlfriend took my wife! Explain this! Is she insane?"

Dexter narrowed his eyes and calmly looked at the groom, whose body chilled under Dexter's gaze. The groom quickly explained, "I mean, she carried my wife. If she asks me to carry her in the future and I can't, she'll be angry. It'll affect our relationship."

Dexter said quietly, "You can't even carry your wife? That's your problem."

The groom protested, "My wife weighs 160 pounds! It's reasonable I can't carry her!"

Dexter replied, "160 pounds, not 160 kilograms. If you can't carry her, that's your problem. Besides, even a girl can carry her. How dare you complain?"

The humiliated groom ran after his bride.

Dexter instructed Scott to handle the others demanding explanations, then chased after Evangeline. He caught up with her only after she'd offended everyone on the beach.

Several rebellious teenagers, however, found Evangeline cool and wanted to be her followers. The bride also caught up, shyly begging Evangeline to carry her again.

Evangeline delegated the task to the teenagers as a test. They readily agreed. The tallest boy picked up the bride, although he struggled after a short distance. Working together, they carried or held her, much to her delight. The groom, however, remained baffled, questioning why these boys could carry his wife when he couldn't.

Dexter seized the opportunity to take Evangeline's hand and leave the beach.

Back in the car, Dexter said seriously, "Eva, I'm sorry. I promised to let you do whatever you wanted, but I failed. I was wrong. Don't be angry. I'll have Wesley arrange it, and we'll play in the mud tomorrow, okay?"

Evangeline replied, "I'm not angry. Why would you think that?"

Dexter said, "You caused a scene on the beach. Weren't you angry and deliberately punishing me?"

Evangeline said, "I wasn't causing a scene. I was just playing and having fun."

Dexter was speechless.

Evangeline smiled. "Sand and seawater can't compete with people."

Dexter remained silent.

Evangeline patted Dexter's shoulder. "Okay. Let's go to the haunted house and play with ghosts."

Dexter hesitated. He was shocked she intended to play with the ghosts, not just see them.

Dexter took Evangeline to the haunted house. They chose "The Abandoned Hospital," a large-scale escape room game in an abandoned hospital. Dexter paid to book the entire venue. All windows were sealed, allowing only faint, intermittent light sources to guide them, not illuminate the path.

They moved slowly along the walls, the horrible background music and chilling drafts adding to the terror.

They hadn't gone far when a scream echoed from ahead. A beam of red light illuminated a horrifying, decaying face.

Dexter clung to Evangeline, gripping her hand tightly. "Eva, it's so scary!"

Evangeline patted his hand. "Don't be afraid, I'll protect you." She then dropped his hand, walked toward the "ghost," hoisted it onto her shoulder, and ran off.

Dexter was stunned. Didn't you say you would protect me? Shouldn't you be carrying me?

In the darkness, he lost sight of Evangeline and called out her name. "Eva, don't leave me alone!"

Evangeline's voice replied, "I'll clear the ghosts ahead so you won't meet them. Just walk slowly along the wall. Don't be afraid."

Dexter was speechless. He'd imagined her by his side, holding his hand, protecting him. Instead, she was carrying off the ghosts. He concluded that something was wrong with Evangeline's mind.
