Evangeline's gaze hardened, disgust evident in her eyes. She frowned. "How unlucky! I still run into this idiot?"
The person was Samson. Isn't the Gallagher family in Hofcaster? How did he end up in Lyrendia? she wondered.
Samson's face stiffened at her words. His eyes dimmed as he said sadly, "Evangeline, haven't you forgiven us yet? We've realized our mistakes. Why won't you give us a chance? We're family. Can't you be more lenient? Dad and Eddie are dead. Jasper lost a leg, and Mom feels terrible. She's mentally unstable and often dreams of apologizing to you"
Evangeline stepped forward and slapped him. Samson fell to the ground, his head ringing. Before he could react, she kicked and punched him repeatedly. "Are you out of your mind? I've warned you many times! Don't mention family when you see me. Otherwise, I'll hit you every time. Are you addicted to being beaten?"
Samson cried out in agony, clutching his head. Dexter joined Evangeline, followed by Arthur. They beat Samson until he was unable to fight back, leaving him in a pitiful state. Only when he was motionless did they stop.
Evangeline, still furious, kicked him again. "If killing weren't illegal, I'd kick your head in to see if it's filled with shit! You're dumb and can't understand human language. Get lost, and don't come near us again!" She stepped on him before entering the hotel, followed by Dexter and Arthur, who also stepped on him.
Samson lay there, eyes rolling back. They stepped on me, but why did they stomp on me? My ribs feel like they're breaking, he thought.
A hotel security guard approached. "Sir, would you like an ambulance and the police?" His eyes showed disgust when he saw Samson's face clearly. Samson had been wearing a hat and mask, concealing his identity until now. The guard recognized him as the man who had embarrassed himself on a live variety show two months earlier. Despite his disdain, he was obliged to ask.
Samson weakly shook his head. "No need." He struggled to his feet, dejectedly watching Evangeline leave. We're family; why are we enemies? We've paid the price and want to make amends. Why won't she give us a chance? He'd planned a hospital consultation, but his injuries prevented it.
Back in the hotel room, Bethany saw his bruises. "Sam, what happened? You were beaten? Who did it?" Jasper, listless since losing his leg, hadn't noticed. Samson and Bethany had brought him to Lyrendia for counseling and prosthetic inquiries.
Samson forced a sad smile. "I ran into Evangeline. I tried to greet her, but she attacked me"
At Evangeline's name, Bethany's expression froze. Complex emotions, eventually overtaken by tears, flooded her eyes. She felt guilty, yet also resentful. If not for Evangeline, Eddie wouldn't have died. Thinking of Edward, she sobbed uncontrollably.
After composing herself, she choked out, "Is Evangeline still in the hotel? I want to see her."
Samson said, "She just went in. Probably for breakfast, but I don't know where."
"Mom, maybe you shouldn't. She still resents us and doesn't consider us family. She might ignore or even beat you"
Bethany said, "She's my daughter. I want to see her." "Apply the medicine. If it's bad, go to the hospital. I'll wait for Evangeline." She left before Samson could stop her.
Bethany waited over an hour before seeing Evangeline leave the hotel with two men. Excited, she rushed over and took Evangeline's hand.
