Unaware of what had happened and uninterested in learning, Evangeline took the hare to the riverside. Meghan, however, picked up a stone and threw it at Evangeline, who dodged it agilely. The rock hit the water, splashing her. Evangeline, refusing to be bullied, promptly picked up a stone and retaliated.
"Ah!" Meghan screamed. The stone struck Meghan's wrist, causing sharp pain that contorted her face. Furiously, she glared at Evangeline and screamed, "Evangeline, how dare you throw a stone at me! You're so mean! You will die a miserable death!"
Evangeline sneered, "You started the fight. Expect retaliation when you provoke others."
Meghan, expressing her anger, cried, "I didn't hit you, yet you threw a stone at my hand! It hurts so much I can't move it! It's all your fault! The monkeys attacked us, scratching and throwing things at us; my hair was torn out! You offended them!"
Although the others remained silent, their unkind stares were evident. Had they not known Evangeline's fighting ability, they would have punished her as they did Meghan. Evangeline thought, Well done, monkeys.
With a faint smile, Evangeline said, "You were no match for the monkeys. You deserve it, loser!"
"You!" Meghan seethed, her chest heaving.
Evangeline looked at her indifferently. "Say another word, and I'll bring those monkeys back."
Meghan remained silent; the monkeys' attack had been terrifying.
After cleaning the hare, Evangeline built a fire and roasted it. The five hungry onlookers refrained from trying to steal it, knowing they couldn't win against Evangeline. Having made the same mistake twice, they weren't going to repeat it.
Meghan persistently nudged Samson, pleading, "Samson, I'm famished. Persuade Evangeline to share some food. I can't endure this!" Samson smiled bitterly. "It won't work. Evangeline won't share." He coughed.
Caught in the meat's scent, Meghan remarked bitterly, "If you were better at finding food, I wouldn't be in this state."
Lying on the ground, Samson stared numbly at the sky. During the monkey attack, Meghan had positioned him in front of her, removing his clothes to shield herself. Unprotected, he was vulnerable. Meghan didn't ask about his condition afterward; instead, she blamed Evangeline. She was unaware of how wrong it was to use him as a shield and remove his clothes, making him an easier target.
Feeling dizzy, Samson wasn't sure if his fatigue stemmed from hunger or infected wounds. Overwhelmed and exhausted, he couldn't think further. Meghan remained oblivious to his condition, as did the others; their focus was entirely on Evangeline's meal.
As Meghan watched Evangeline eat, she unconsciously mimicked her chewing. Her lip-smacking, however, was too loud. Evangeline stopped, looked over, and sneered, "Is the air more flavorful?"
Embarrassed, Meghan gritted her teeth. "Don't act so insolently. I'll teach you a lesson when we're out of here!" She stood abruptly, but dizziness from hunger caused her to fall. She eventually stood and left, frustrated. Travis, Kendrick, and Jolene followed. Witnessing others eat while hungry was agonizing, especially with the enticing aroma. They decided to leave to avoid further suffering. Possibly too famished to notice, none realized Samson was still lying on the ground. Evangeline noticed but ignored him.
A viewer commented: "[Is Samson dead? I can't believe the production team is so daring. Why haven't they sent someone to save Samson in his critical condition?]" Another: "[Although Samson is stupid, he doesn't deserve to die.]" Another: "[Samson's seriously injured by the wild monkeys. There's a risk of infection. The production team should rescue him.]" Another: "[Meghan is truly vicious. She bears responsibility for Samson's severe injuries as well.]" Another: "[Samson deserves it. He blindly protected Meghan, turning her into an ingrate, so he had it coming!]" A viewer added: "[It is fortunate that she didn't bring such injuries upon others. Samson is reaping what he sows!]" Someone wrote: "[Don't die next to Evangeline. Such bad luck!]"
The production team watched, frowning. Nehon Cooper nervously asked, "Mr. Fowler, Samson might have a fever. Why haven't we sent someone? We could be in trouble if someone dies." Dallas frowned. "Is he that frail? The monkeys are virus-free. Being scratched shouldn't be fatal." Nelson replied, "Untreated wounds can become infected and inflamed, causing fever. Not eating weakens his immune system. His body might struggle with the inflammation."
After a silence, Dallas decided, "Alert the individuals in the forest to approach Samson cautiously. Once Evangeline leaves, discreetly remove Samson, making it appear as if he were taken by wild animals. The shooting will continue." Nelson nodded. "Okay. I'll arrange it now."
At the Gallagher residence, Bethany, George, Edward, and Jasper watched the livestream, worried about Samson. Bethany cried, complaining, "This is crossing the line! Sam is badly injured. Why haven't they sent someone? If anything happens to Sam, I'll hold the entire production team responsible!" Edward added, "Meghan went too far, using Sam as a human shield and taking off his clothes. Sam wouldn't be so severely injured if she didn't do that." Jasper rebuked, "Evangeline's actions were even more egregious. She provoked the monkeys, yet she remained selfish, refusing to share food and ignoring him. She is cold-blooded and heartless! Meghan, in contrast, acted out of fear!" Edward retorted, "Using fear as an excuse might be understandable. However, she didn't show any concern for Sam afterward. When they exited the forest, Sam couldn't walk steadily, and she didn't help him. Jolene did. She left without showing any care. How do you explain this!" Jasper was speechless.
George shouted, "That's enough! Meghan behaved like that because she had endured too many grievances. As her brothers, you should understand Meghan's hardships instead of accusing her." Edward stopped retorting. George glared at Evangeline. "What an unfilial daughter! She refused to help her brother! How can she compare with Meghan?" He took a deep breath. "Keep trying to contact the production team to ensure someone is sent to save Sam." Edward nodded.
In the forest, Evangeline finished eating and burned the bones. Samson remained motionless. She frowned, wondering if he was dead. After hesitating, she kicked him. "Hey, are you still alive?" He didn't respond. Evangeline checked his eyes and pulse. "He's alive," she thought. She checked his wounds. "Tsk. What a bother!" She took out her medical kit. His wounds were inflamed, and only some herbs would help. She went into the forest and returned with herbs, mashed them, disinfected the wounds with iodine, and applied the herbs. She then left to bathe. She thought, The monkeys attacked because of me, but I've done what I could.
A viewer commented: "[Wow! Does Evangeline possess medical skills? I'm amazed by her knowledge of wild herbs. She's truly awesome!]" Another: "[Evangeline was the one who helped him in the end. She's so generous.]" A comment read: "[If Samson assists Meghan in targeting Evangeline again, Evangeline would be saving an ingrate!]" Another: "[Let's not get too excited. Evangeline might not be skilled in medicine. What if Samson succumbs to her actions!]" Someone wrote: "[Don't be misled by Evangeline's ghostwriters. She is selfish, only caring about herself.]" A viewer commented: "[Meghan's reaction is genuine. Losing her sanity after enduring hardships is understandable. It's unfair to blame her.]" One wrote: "[What the hell? Why did so many comments condemning Evangeline and justifying Meghan's actions pop out? Did the Gallagher family interfere?]" A viewer commented: "[It's clear these are ghostwriters hired by the Gallagher family for Meghan.]" Someone wrote: "[What spell did Meghan cast on the Gallagher family? Why do they still protect her after she brought such misery to Samson?]" Another wrote: "[Please write a book about it, Meghan. I want to learn it!]"
Those were ghostwriters arranged by Edward. The misinformation made it challenging to change public opinion, especially with Meghan still causing trouble.
Upon witnessing Evangeline treat Samson, Dallas contacted the staff, advising them to observe the situation. If Evangeline's treatment worked, there was no need to rescue Samson. Otherwise, they would discreetly rescue him.
After showering, Evangeline slept far from Samson. Samson's breathing grew stronger. The staff observing saw his condition improving. Meghan didn't look for Samson that night. The next morning, she pushed him. "Sam, why are you still sleeping? Get up! Kendrick and the others have gone to look for food. You should do the same. If I don't eat anything, I will starve to death!"
The push woke Samson. His clothes were gone, and herbs covered his body. His fever and pain were gone. "Meghan, who put these herbs on me?" he asked.
Meghan was dumbfounded. She knew only Evangeline could have done it. She lied, "What are you talking about? Who else would save you except me?"
