Listen to this chapter:

Samson lowered his head, his eyes reddening. George roared, "Even if Jas provoked Evangeline first, she shouldn't have broken his leg! She's inhumane!" He told Edward, "Eddie, hire a lawyer. I want to sue her and send her to jail!"

Edward said, "I'm afraid we can't. Jas signed an agreement before the competition, stating that unless someone violated the rules with malice, participants were responsible for the consequences. Although we assume Evangeline did it on purpose, her actions seemed accidental. She didn't violate the rules, so we can't sue her." George grew even more infuriated. With trembling lips, he uttered, "Then, think of another way. We must make her pay!"

Edward said, "Let's talk about it at home. This isn't a good place." George's heart sank. He looked around quickly and breathed a sigh of relief, seeing no one nearby. He thought, The Gallagher family is currently in the eye of the storm. If anyone hears this, those idiotic netizens will definitely come for us again.

Two hours later, Jasper was transferred from the operating room. His left leg had been amputated. From then on, he could no longer drive. He was taken to the ICU. It wasn't until the next day that he woke up. Everyone had left except Edward, who was caring for him.

"How do you feel, Jas? Any other discomfort?" Edward asked quickly upon seeing Jasper awake. Jasper stared blankly at the ceiling. It took him a while to remember what happened before he passed out. "My leg," Jasper uttered.

Edward said sorrowfully, "Your left leg has been amputated. The doctor said reattachment was impossible; it was necessary to save your life." He added, "Regardless, don't worry too much. You can get a prosthesis. With today's technology, a good prosthesis is almost indistinguishable from a real leg." Jasper's eyes were dull, as if he'd lost all his vigor. After a while, he suddenly burst into laughter—laughing and crying.

"Haha, you know what, Eddie? Evangeline is Jade—the biological sister I despised most, who I worshipped as Queen Jade, a goddess! I even fantasized about marrying her!" He spoke pitifully. "Why her? Why did it have to be her? Ugh, I can't believe I treated her like that. Why didn't she tell me earlier? She knew I admired Queen Jade. If she'd told me, I wouldn't have done that to her! Haha, this is my retribution! God's retribution! I deserve it!" Jasper wallowed, laughing loudly, his face streaked with tears.

Compared to the amputation, the collapse of his faith was harder to accept. As a middle child with an outstanding older brother and a lively younger brother, his parents paid him little attention. Unable to gain their attention, he behaved recklessly, falling into a vicious cycle: the less attention he got, the less effort he made; the less he tried, the less he was noticed. At one point, he was bullied, but holding a grudge against his parents, he didn't tell them. He endured the bullying, returning home injured daily, hoping to attract their attention, but they still didn't notice him. He suffered from depression and considered suicide. Then he saw Jade's interview. Her inspirational words, though seemingly standard, captivated him, and he started working hard. Gradually, his parents began to praise him. He believed Jade had saved him. Posters of Jade covered his room; she became more important than his parents. Now, his faith had crumbled—a devastating blow.

Jasper said, "Eddie, I'd rather Evangeline had killed me outright than let me discover this truth. Since she hid it for so long, why didn't she hide it for life? She should have killed me in that car crash! Why tell me the truth?"

Seeing Jasper's distress, Edward rang the call bell. A nurse arrived, checked on him, and called the doctor to administer a sedative. Once Jasper calmed down, Edward asked, "Since you adored Jade so much, why did you destroy the car Evangeline gave you?" Jasper's eyes dulled momentarily. He wondered, Why?

"Right, Meghan told me the car was fake. She said Evangeline hired someone to forge an identical car to please me. It wasn't Jade's car. Meghan questioned how Evangeline, with her status, could obtain Jade's car. I believed her. I couldn't do it myself, so neither could Evangeline. So, the car must be fake." Hence, Jasper was incredibly disappointed and destroyed the car out of embarrassment. On the surface, he smashed it for Meghan; in truth, he was furious about the fake, venting his anger. He worshipped Jade; he couldn't allow a fake. Yet, he hadn't expected Evangeline to be Jade. The car she gave him wasn't fake; Meghan had deliberately stirred up trouble.

"Have a good rest. I'll be back later," Edward said, patting Jasper's shoulder before leaving.

Exhausted, Edward returned home. As he entered the hallway, he heard laughter from the living room—Meghan and George. "Dad, I peeled a grape for you," Meghan said. "Haha, as expected of my sweetheart," George replied. "Dad, don't bite my finger!" Meghan exclaimed. Edward frowned. After changing his shoes, he nearly stumbled upon seeing Meghan sitting on George's lap; she had just fed him a grape, her finger still in his mouth.

"Dad, what are you two doing?" Edward asked darkly. Meghan jumped off George's lap, her head down. George seemed calm. "You're back. How's Jas?"

Edward explained, "He's stable, but severely traumatized. He can't accept this." George said, "Losing a leg is hard. Find him a psychologist. Don't let him do anything foolish." Edward pursed his lips, unable to explain what Jasper truly couldn't accept. He looked between Meghan and George. "Dad, you and Meghan—"

George's face darkened. "What are you thinking, you scoundrel? Meghan's just being playful, like when she was a child. Don't put those filthy thoughts on us." Edward thought, I suppose that's the case! As a child, Meghan would feed George, and he would playfully bite her fingers.

Edward said, "Meghan's grown up. What was acceptable as a child isn't appropriate now." George retorted, "Are you teaching me how to do things?" "No," Edward said calmly. "Even if I don't mind, it's inappropriate to laugh so happily when Jas is in the hospital." George and Meghan looked embarrassed.

Edward massaged his temples. "I've been with Jas all night. I'm tired; I'll rest." Without waiting for a reply, he went upstairs. George watched him go. "After you rest, think about punishing Evangeline! If we don't get rid of her, she'll kill us all!" Edward hummed curtly.

Back in his room, Edward sat, unable to sleep. Dad's right. If we don't deal with Evangeline, she'll finish us off. She's started her revenge. We have no choice. We can only fight! An idea struck him. Evangeline, you refused to let us go. Don't blame me for this.

Evangeline sneezed repeatedly upon waking. She frowned. Which bastard is bad-mouthing me? She got up, cleaned herself, and turned on her phone. An unfamiliar number called. She narrowed her eyes and answered.

"Ms. Evangeline Castillo, I'm the director of Xtreme Survival. We sincerely invite you to participate in season eighteen. If the appearance fee of $20 million isn't satisfactory, we can discuss it." Evangeline walked downstairs. "Who are the other participants?"

The man listed names. Evangeline half-smiled. "Too weak. No challenge. I want specific people. If you can get them, I'll accept. Otherwise, not at all."

The man was arrogant. "Ms. Castillo, you're unaware of our show's backing. You're favored by our investor. Even if you refuse, we have ways to get you here. Our investors are the world's top billionaires—rich and powerful. You can't refuse them. This invitation is a sign of respect. Know what's good for you."

Evangeline said casually, "I have ways to prevent you from doing as you please."

The man's tone became sarcastic. "Ms. Castillo, confidence is good, but overconfidence isn't. As a nobody, what makes you think you can go against top billionaires?"

Evangeline said, "I can die." The man was speechless, unsure if she was threatening him.
