Listen to this chapter:

Edward admired the despairing expressions on Meghan's and George's faces for a moment, then put away his phone. He picked up the dagger he had put aside and said, "You two haven't eaten anything for two days. You must be hungry, right?"

They had been starving for days, but fear and despair overwhelmed them. Even hungry, they dared not make a sound. Now that Edward was mentioning it, Meghan and George subconsciously swallowed.

"Would you like to eat something?" Edward asked with a half-smile.

Meghan said hurriedly, "I'm starving, Eddie. Please give me something to eat. I'm already injured; if I don't eat anything now, I won't be able to hold out much longer." She even pitifully shed tears, hoping to arouse his sympathy.

Edward nodded agreeably. "Alright. Since you asked, you get to eat first."

Meghan cried in joy. "Thank you, Eddie. I swear I won't forget your kindness!" She thought Edward wouldn't kill them; if he wanted to, he would have already done so. He wouldn't have gone to the trouble of freeing them, nor would he care about their hunger. He must be worried that if he let them go, they would call the police and retaliate against him and Bethany.

Edward hadn't calmed down, so even if they assured him, he wouldn't believe them. After repeated assurances, however, he might believe they wouldn't call the police and then let them go. They just needed to stay alive and wait!

Hope filled Meghan's eyes, but it vanished the next second. George's scream was so loud it almost shattered Meghan's eardrums. Meghan's eyes widened in horror; her body trembled violently. She couldn't believe what Edward was doing. Her mind raced: "He… he…"

After a while, Edward stood up and walked over to her. "Ah… how could you do this to me! I'm your father!" George screamed.

Edward ignored him, carefully cutting the flesh into small pieces. He held a piece to Meghan's mouth, saying gently, "I know you like to eat in small bites. I've already cut the meat to your preferred size, so go ahead and eat."

Meghan's body trembled; her face turned pale. She thought, "No… I don't want to eat anymore!"

Edward's eyes turned cold. "I wasted so much time cutting it for you, but you're not going to eat it?"

Meghan's mouth was closed; a pained cry escaped. She looked at him pleadingly, hoping he would spare her.

Edward said, "Don't let me down. You don't want me to get angry." He didn't mention the consequences, but his cold eyes were enough to shock Meghan. Her intuition told her the consequences would be worse if she disobeyed. Under his gaze, she trembled and opened her mouth.

"Don't spit it out," Edward said. His words frightened Meghan so much she bit her lip, not daring to spit it out. When she recovered her senses, Edward said, "Now, it's time to feed Dad."

Meghan's eyes widened. Before she could beg for mercy, she felt severe pain. "Ah! Help… just end me… I'm begging you, just end my life…" she pleaded. However, Edward continued.

Ten days later, George and Meghan were still alive but severely injured and near death. Edward had removed their bonds long ago, but they couldn't move. They were delirious and their thoughts muddled. "End me… please just end me… please free me from this hell… I'm in so much pain… it hurts everywhere… I don't want to live anymore… please… end me…" they kept muttering.

Edward walked up to them, crouched down, and poured water over their faces. Sobering up, they saw Edward's face and trembled fearfully.

"I know a secret about you two. Do you want to know what it is?" Edward said slowly.

George and Meghan only felt fear. Chuckling, Edward said, "You won't be alive for long. I guess I'll tell you in person while you're still alive."

Edward looked at George. "Do you know why a housekeeper was capable of secretly switching out the real daughter of the Gallagher family?"

George trembled, unable to answer. Edward didn't need an answer. "Because it was an operation instructed by Grandpa. Grandpa covered for her so she could deceive everyone and secretly swap Evangeline with Meghan."

George's eyes widened. He thought, 'How is that possible? Why would he do that?'

Edward asked, "Are you curious why Grandpa did that? It's because Meghan is Grandpa's daughter, your biological half-sister."

George's eyes widened in shock and disbelief. "What… how is that possible?" he asked painstakingly. He thought, How could Meghan be my sister? If Meghan is my sister, then we would have…

He panted heavily, his face pale. He thought, No… I shouldn't be like this… How can I die an honorable death after this?

"It can't be true… you're lying… it's not true…" Meghan said with difficulty. She couldn't accept the truth either.

Edward said, "Now that things have come to this, why would I lie? Do you know why Grandpa gave so many shares to Evangeline? It's because she knows this secret, and she discovered an even bigger secret. If that secret is exposed, the entire Gallagher family will be ruined. That's why Grandpa willingly gave up his money and life to beg Evangeline not to expose it."

Edward's grandfather didn't die of natural causes; he had committed suicide. Only he and Evangeline knew the secret. Six months after Evangeline returned home, he died of carbon monoxide poisoning, believed to be an accident. But Edward knew he'd killed himself to silence Evangeline; he'd overheard their conversation. His grandfather had begged Evangeline, who demanded his shares and his death within three days or she would expose the secret. Edward had pretended ignorance and hadn't tried to save his grandfather. But now, he felt George and Meghan should know their relationship before they died.

"That's not true… it can't be true…"

"Ah, Edward, please just end me. I don't want to live anymore."

They were miserable and despairing, unable to accept the truth. Edward was silent for a moment, then said, "I originally wanted to end you, but now, I suddenly feel like death is only a form of release for you."

George and Meghan were frightened and desperate. In their condition, they couldn't walk, turn over, eat, or even relieve themselves. There was no point in staying alive. At first, they hoped to survive, but now they longed for death.

Edward said, "This is your retribution, Dad. You should be aware of all the bad things you've done. And Meghan, have you forgotten the two girls you killed in high school because of jealousy? Their parents refused compensation and disappeared. Dad, you must have arranged for someone to deal with them, right?"

Meghan and George widened their eyes in horror. They couldn't believe Edward knew.

Edward continued, "I know almost all the secrets of everyone in the Gallagher family. As long as they aren't involved in the family's finances, I'll choose to ignore them."
