Chapter 1012: Theodore's Overconfidence
In the bathroom, Theodore's intense gaze fixed on Little Bunny. She bit her lip, meeting his stare but remaining motionless.
"Need my help?" Theodore asked, an evil grin spreading across his face.
Little Bunny remained silent, considering how to deliver a stinging slap to his thick-skinned face.
Unaware of her simmering anger, Theodore continued, his gaze closely studying her lightly made-up, smooth, seemingly poreless skin. "Did you get plastic surgery?"
Little Bunny chuckled softly. "You don't like artificial things, do you?"
"No," Theodore agreed, shaking his head.
Little Bunny laughed again, a sarcastic sound. Theodore, she thought, was a tiger in the sack. "If you've had work done," she said, "let me know so I don't accidentally hurt you."
Wishing to end the conversation, she reached out to push him away when Laird's voice called from outside the door, "Theodore!"
The sudden sound startled Theodore; he shuddered involuntarily. Laird's influence over him remained strong, regardless of age.
"What do you want?!" Theodore snapped, annoyed.
"Come out here!" Laird demanded sternly.
"I'm taking a shower."
"Two minutes."
"If Iโ"
"If you don't come out in two minutes, I'll break your legs!" Laird threatened.
Theodore, unable to resist, reluctantly released Little Bunny and left the bathroom in frustration. Little Bunny breathed a sigh of relief. It was best, she thought, to part ways amicably if possible.
As she left the bathroom, the sounds of Laird and Theodore arguing echoed down the hallway.
"Little Bunny!" Little Bunny hesitated at the sound of his voice behind her.
Laird slapped Theodore. "Show some respect!"
This only further infuriated Theodore, who longed to vent his anger on Little Bunny, but instead received another lecture from Laird, a reminder of expected behavior.
"Let's go pick up Nicholas together," Theodore suggested. This was what Laird had intended all along.
"She's an artiste; it wouldn't be appropriate for her to come along. Just you!"
"Laird, you probably don't understand. My reputation is far greater than hers. You need to face realityโฆ"
Laird's look silenced Theodore instantly.
"Okay, okay. I'll go, I'll go! I don't even know if you picked me up from the streets or something, since you never liked me," Theodore grumbled.
"I'm starting to wonder how I ended up with a son like you!" Laird exclaimed, exasperated.
Theodore remained silent and left.
"Little Bunny," Laird called after him.
Little Bunny, always respectful of Laird, replied, "Dad."
"Did Theodore bully you?" Laird asked, fearing Theodore might have harmed her, which was why he'd sent him away.
Little Bunny shook her head, knowing she needed to tell him something. Before she could speak, Laird said, "Rest for now. Nicholas will be back soon and he'll start bothering you again."
Little Bunny pursed her lips. She preferred to handle things herself before involving others.
"Okay, thank you, Dad."
"Go ahead," Laird said kindly as he left. "Don't worry about anything because as long as I'm here, Theodore won't dare do anything to hurt you."
Little Bunny offered a faint smile but sighed as Laird's back turned. Laird had forced their marriage years ago, driven by their child and a desire to protect Little Bunny's reputation. Over the years, despite his busy life, Theodore never cherished their relationship, and his infidelities weighed heavily on Laird's conscience. However, over time, Laird found himself increasingly content in Little Bunny's company, appreciating her more than his son. He considered it a blessing that his son had married someone like Little Bunny, deserving of a better life. Yet, seeing them together now only increased his worry about their future.
From Little Bunny's hesitant demeanor, Laird sensed she wanted to speak, likely about a divorce.
He reluctantly returned to the living room, finding Theodore putting on his shoes with a disgruntled expression.
"Theodore," Laird called.
Theodore turned. "What do you want now?! Do you know how hard it is for me to get a day or two off? Can't I just lie down at home for a while?"
"I have something to tell you."
Theodore, resigned, removed his shoes and sat beside Laird. This old man never gave him peace.
"You haven't been treating Little Bunny well all these years since your marriage," Laird stated bluntly.
Theodore wanted to retort but found himself speechless.
"If Little Bunny asks for a divorce, agree to her terms. She has contributed so much to our family over the years, it's only fairโฆ"
"What are you thinking?" Theodore interrupted incredulously.
Laird's face darkened.
"Little Bunny would ask for a divorce? Would she be willing? Dad, every woman wants to marry me! Those women who were kind to me were all after my reputation! If I wasn't fair and didn't drag them along, who knows how many women would come knocking on my doorโฆ Ah!"
Theodore covered his head and screamed, as if struck. From childhood, he'd been fortunate to avoid a beating from Laird.
"You're proud of this?! You're proud of having so many women outside?" Laird's fury was palpable.
Theodore remained silent under his father's anger.
"Who gave you such confidence that all women must marry you? Your skin is thicker than city walls!" Laird yelled.
