Listen to this chapter:

Susan sniffed, wiping away tears. "I can't control myself," she said. "When I see you, I want to cry. Whenever I think of you being alive and well..."

Hannah said gently, "Don't cry. Manuel will feel sorry for you."

"He deserves to feel heartbroken," Susan retorted, anger flaring at the mention of Manuel. "He knew earlier and didn't tell me!"

"He's afraid you'll get too excited," Hannah replied.

"I'll know sooner or later anyway," Susan mumbled.

"Susan," Hannah said softly, "aren't you afraid I'll be heartbroken?"

Susan's nose tingled. Hannah's words always deeply affected her. "I won't cry anymore," she said, wiping her tears vigorously, "but promise you won't die."

Hannah was speechless. Did she want to die?

"Alright," Hannah finally said, "I'll die after you."

Susan nodded, then a spark of excitement ignited her. "Are you cursing me? I'm younger! How could I die before you?"

Hannah chuckled.

"We can die together," Susan declared seriously. "We swore as kids! We'll grow old and die on the same day."

Hannah smiled, a warmth spreading through her.

Hannah finished changing, and with the staff's help, walked out. Susan followed, Salem at her side. Manuel had been waiting, relief flooding his face as he saw Susan emerge. He took their hands and led them to their designated seats in the palace.

Wedding music filled the hall. Doyle and Hannah walked slowly down the aisle, a breathtakingly beautiful couple. Their regal attire and solemn demeanor made the ceremony exceptionally grand, stunning the audience.

Susan watched silently as Hannah passed. Hannah and Oscar had seemed destined, but now, with Doyle, she seemed truly meant to be. Susan took a pictureโ€”a sweet photo of Hannah and Doyleโ€”and sent it to Oscar. Previously, she'd sought revenge, but now, she only wanted him to let go. Hannah no longer belonged to him.

Meanwhile, Oscar sat on a private plane with Theodore, who fidgeted and chattered incessantly. Oscar ignored him, calmly driving to the airport and settling into his seat.

"You're just leaving like this?" Theodore finally asked.

Oscar lowered his phone. He saw the photo Susan had sent, Hannah's smile radiant. That, he realized, was something he couldn't provide in this life.

"Theodore," he said, "loving someone means being content with her happiness."

Theodore was surprised. Oscarโ€™s quiet acceptance was a revelation. He understood: Oscar had given up. He didn't know what Hannah had said, but he saw the end of his hopes.

The wedding was a spectacular affair. Afterwards, Susan lingered at the hotel, reluctant to leave Hannah so soon after her wedding.

Back in their room, Manuel began preparing Salemโ€™s bath. As he entered the bathroom, Susan screamed. Manuel nearly jumped out of his skin. Salem rushed to her side.

"What happened, Auntie Susan?" he asked.

Susan pointed at herself. "Iโ€ฆ I peed myself."

Salem looked down. Water pooled around them.

"No wonder Uncle Manuel always says you're a child," Salem muttered. "Now I know why."

Manuel burst in, panicked. He scooped Susan up. "Sal, grab my phone! Come with me!"

"What?!" Salem hadn't even processed it before Manuel was gone, Susan in his arms. He followed.

Manuel barked instructions. "Call the number on my phone! Susan's about to give birth! Tell them to meet us downstairs, go to the hospital!"

"Okay!" Salem nodded, dialing the first number on Manuel's unlocked phone. "Auntie Susan's having a baby! Hurry! We're going to the hospital!"

He joined them in the elevator.

Susan realized her water had broken. She'd thought she'd just peed herself. She was going into labor. She was going to be a mother! Panic seized her.

"Don't be afraid," Manuel reassured her, "I'll stay by your side."

"Butโ€ฆ" Susan clung to him tighter.

"Hold onto me," he said.

Susan clung to his neck as they headed for the hotel entrance, biting her lip to suppress her fear. Hannah had done it, had a wonderful son. She could do this too.
